Lama stylists:

The link is to a 7-Star mantis demo. Near the end is a brief demo of Hop Ga application (chyun, paau, kap). Only very basic stuff, but the mantis guy looks pretty good.

Thanks for the clip. I notice with this guy and as well as others on you tube not locking their hips while in a 45. From what training I have recieved that tells me they are not sitting in that hip and end up leaving the groin wide open. The main example here is at 4:15 when he goes into gorilla walking with the wheel hands. Again from my perspective but smearing through the 45 is really cheating himself on timing, striking power and again leaving himself open in the groin and not getting his sholders to roll thru.

Or is this open 45 part of some of the Hop Gar sects, are some schools leaving it open and avoid sitting in the hips for the 45's on purpose? Thanks.

If by "sitting in" you mean medial rotation of the thighs, I think that's standard. Both these guys look like beginners in the art trying to impress the viewers with their speed. Pretty sloppy for Hop Ga. I can't figure out why this was included with the mantis material, but I brought it up because I'm interested in any branch of Haphophupgarga.

Does anyone out there know anything about Wilson Wu's background?

You can visit Wilson's website here @ www.kungfu-ocean.com

Check the 'About Us' Wilson Wu bio.

Thanks, firepalm. That may have answered my question. If Wu is a jin wu student it makes sense that he will have a different take on a represented system than a person who specializes in that system. It's a very common mistake to see Hop Ga and the related White Crane as long range styles only. Hop Ga may be at its best at close range.

In addition to Hup / Hap Ga of Wilson Wu at http://www.kungfu-ocean.com there is also the Lama Club run by Tony Jay at the site listed by street fighter. There is also Peter Fong Sek Hon (semi retired more into Tai Chi now) that sometimes teaches out of the Shon Yee Athletic Ass'n. Then there is also White Crane (Kwong Boon Fu lineage) taught by Vincent Chow, http://www.angelfire.com/bc/whitecrane/

Youtube has some footage of Wilson's people at the Chinatown Night Martket doing applications http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qpdpC3dr2Y
