I am a beginner and have been looking in vain for a poster with simple diagrams of the basic stances (I study a Southern style TCMA). Anyone know where I can find a poster with pics of the horse, bow, cat stances, etc.?

That could be due to the fact that a stance poster hanging on your wall for months will have less instructional value then getting a senior student at your kwoon to spend five minutes running you through the same thing. A poster can't see what you're doing and correct you; someone who's spent a couple of years doing what you're trying to do can...

Different systems different stances. A bow stance isn't always a bow stance across the board. Do what the previous guy said ask a qualified senior.

Is true! I spent some time altering my bow stance (ding ji ma) to have a straight rear leg after a long time of being taught to have it slightly bent. Hard to unlearn certain things...

Hi,

What you want is wall mirrors rather than posters, this will allow you to correct yourself during solo training.

I agree with this one 100%. I was able to do some serious corrections once I started seeing myself doing the techniques. I was discussing this with the GM in how you THINK you have the right posture, but what you think isn't always the truth. You don't need wall hangings once you know the stance. You need to practice it daily and watch your form. And sometimes you can also tell by how the stance feels.

Good post, Hokpaiwes
