I must agree with you,that is one of the most dramatic duel ever on screen. The special effects were just great, The movie by the way was called Sanjuro. I have it in tape,as well as many others. Toshiro Mifune was the star.
There is also in that film another scene that was great to.

Actually that (linked video) was from Seven Samurai. The first video on the right was from Sanjuro. Also, I don't think that Mifune was a big name at the time so I am not really sure if he was considered the star of that one. Definately the star in Sanjuro though.

Sanjuro has the best quick draw ever in the movies, sure the Lone wolf and cub series has a bunch of great ones too, but the ending quick draw is just so incredibly well done, its just beautiful to watch.
