What type of head gear are you all using and how hard are you sparring with it? My old boxing head protection is getting retired and I need something new that will offer good protection for a LARPer.

MK,
Are you using it with MMA gloves, boxing gloves or both?

Boxing gloves. We use a San Shou format to train hard striking.

When I do MMA training, we use 7-oz training gloves (http://www.combatsports.com/detail.aspx?ID=23985) without headgear, but keep head contact light. These let you strike on the ground and wrestle and still offer decent protection.

I NEVER spar with just 4oz gloves. Those are for fighting, not training.

Masterkiller gave good advice.

We will spar at times with the 4oz gloves though, but only with Pancrase rules.
