Opinions?

I know a lot will go oh well that's not martial arts or try using that in the streets & those opinioins certainly have validity but I look at these guys & I see them taking their skills to a whole new level (albeit more of an non martial direction). I am personally very impressed by what they can do with their bodies and in the case of these two guys you can see that it's a direct outgrowth of their martial arts. Up here in Vancouver I have also witnessed more & more martial arts players going this way.

Anyhow opinions?

Admire their athleticism but not my thing.

Looks like TKD on Steroids:D So I guess I'd have to agree with you that they are taking that to a whole new level which for them is all good.

Yeah.......we have a few guys in our clubs that really ought to be doing this rather than Hung Kuen. More people around here are into athletic training like this.

Would appeal to the Stunt Business I expect too. Watch out for these guys on the big screen.....:)

Nice to watch.

All part of the 'Power Ranger' generation!!

It's great to capture the imagination of the kids, as they can now actually 'see' what the earlier guys were talking about in TKD and TSD circles. It is an 'extreme' approach and geared towards competitions, displays and ultimately the big screen.

I'd like to know how many personal injuries have occured to the innovators involved? In the UK we've seen the likes of Ashley Beck and the Silver Dragons who pioneered this type of exhibit with music.

This is another league though imo, very talented individuals...

Here's an Ashley Becks 1st sampler, which is quite old now, but highlights his beginnings

The film look speeded up for effect. The acceleration's, and decelerations don't look natural compared to real gymnastics.

It's fun to watch, but it's really the ultimate expression of what happens when you take a Gymnast from birth, and teach him TKD when he is 14, not martial arts.

When these kids are in thier 20's, it will be time to teach them how to really fight. By then the obsessive dedication to flipping will be out of thier systems.

Fun to watch

I have two groups that utilize my small school
for this type of training and instruction

one group - "Break dancers" the PHZ
the other - "TKD- XMA competitors"
and one of my part time coaches competes XMA.

their athleticism is very impressive

the martial application of these skills, well I've never seen it?

You know...you guys really should rag on TKD, regardless of how much fun it is to rag on it, TKD is a fine MA and there are many TKD people out there that would hand many a person on this forum, their ass and then some.

Also, nothing is funnier than a TCMA guy make fun of the fighting ability of TKD practioner.

Incorrect. TKD is pretty much everyone's whipping post.

Yes, and in some cases rightly so, but not in all cases and not TKD, but certain performance oriented TKD practioners.

If you doubt that, let me know where you live and I am sure I can find someone that does TKD that will change your POV.

For every 1 you find, there are 100 black belts who are laughable at best, especially since TKD is notorious for promoting pre-pubescent kids to instructor level.

I won't argue with how bad TKD has become due to commercialisim and some rather unsavory business practises ( at least in my view), but that has very little to do wiht the MA of TKD.

A very small sample of the tKD I was exposed to:

I especially like how they turn their backs to their opponent in this one while point sparring! The disconnected, hopping while punching---one word---awesome. And the breaking, well. Spectacular comes to mind.

I have trained in kyokushin, Muay Thai and TKD.
I have no problem with the TKD I was taught, matter of fact, it ranked right up there.
Then again this was in the 80s and my teacher was a 2nd generation TKD instructor.
Nevertheless, if you don;t see anythign good in the last 2 clips I showed you its because you don't wanna see it.

as for turining your back:

i think TKD is great:D

what i meant
was that the application of
the double twist with kicks
flip twist with kicks
many of those high level types of moves

I've never seen in a fight,

the basic spinning, jumping kicks have awesome potential

TKD has great kicking

like a "northern style"

I feel there are three levels or divisions of all martial arts

the health/ fitness-
the use/application-
the art/ look-

imagine
this type athleticism with more "chachuan" flavor
could be excellent example of kung fu
the art/look

the body coordination and control is incredible
just think how simple and fast basic kick

after bravery speed is everything
these guys are fast

That's actually a mistake, in point of fact. They didn't get it from the Chinese.

It came from somewhere in Bhutan. I think it was Rangoon.
