as far as MA is concerned...
Ba Gua/Pa Kua/Baguazhang
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

and the third one is a toss up between
Wrestling, Judo, or Shuai Chiao

I'd like to throw mindboxing (or whatever style JiuJitsuJedi was bragging about), and Evil Style Tai Chi, but I just don't have what it takes to master those two.

Originally I thought this was about martial arts only. after reading beyond the first entry...

Kung-Fu is so all inclusive that would have been all I would need for martial arts.

As for Art in general, still Kung-Fu, because it goes towards how one lives and works and plays.

But in the spirit of the question~

The Art~ of Kung-Fu, the Art of Love, the Art of Life; might be my preferences~.

Very some such, perhaps might have been, likely say some, some not.

I study muay thai and wing chun kung fu....I'm also studying Silat, so I don't have any particular desire to study BJJ. Not that I have anything against it, just that I have a grappling art that suits me. My point: there's no reason to trash kung fu. EVERY art has its strengths and weaknesses. Including BJJ.

Yes, it is. Ralek's unique innovation is to simultaneously grasp your ankles, close your eyes, pull down your pants and open your mouth with tongue stuck out and teeth covered by lips.

I'd like to make shout outs to shuaijiao and Sun and/or Hao family taijiquan as well though.

Chang Style Novice
10-01-2001, 12:07 AM
I suppose if I wanted to be a big ol' bada$$ I ought to add a striking art to my current repetoire (there's some striking in the shuai chiao and ch'ang taijiquan, but it isn't emphasized.) I don't know much about it, but hung ga or choy lay fut might be a good choice for me. Then again, the modicum I have (elephant form gungfu and shaolin 'ambush' gungfu) might be enough to really round me out.

More likely, I'll just concentrate on charcoal drawing, ink wash, and oil painting instead with a crosstraining regimen of digital photography and photoshop. With, naturally, a healthy portion of prose styling.

Lets see,
Tai Tzu Wu Gong contains 4 seperarte but complementary arts alone, so can I count that as one? or do I have to count it as Northern Tai Tzu Chang Chuan, Southern Tai Tzu Quan, Six Stepp Monkey Boxing and the Closed door Internal system?

Then, if I CAN count it as one syste, I would go for Li Hu, Ba Fa, it is like three internal arts under one banner, can I count that as number two?

If so, then I would add Shui Chiao(sp?) to the mix as my number three.

Ralek, yeah I did choose BJJ. Want to know WHY I chose my 3 arts? Fine.

Wing Chun-For the hand work (and I just love the wooden dummy.)

BJJ-For the grappling (I would be just as happy with JuJutsu. Heck, maybe even happier that I am practicing the same art as the Samurai knew. Providing it was the original.)

Capoeira-Because the moves are just so cool looking (so when I go clubbing, I can do those moves on the dance floor.)

I know with practice, I can do those moves. But I think it would be just cool to do it. I already know kicking (Tae Kwon Do) and just need to work on hands and grappling. BJJ and WC would do just that. And Capoeira for eye candy.

Wing Chun is a complete combat system. It has its own groundfighting, chin na (joint locks) and weapons (knives and pole)

Jook Lum Southern Praying Mantis

Aikido from the guy featured in the most recent Discovery Channel special on Martial Arts.

and Yau Kung Mun from Grandmaster Tak Kei Wan here in LA.

Okay, 3 of these 4. I can't make up my mind. And they're not necessarily listed in order of interest.
