I saw your 2007 WVTAA Sifu of the year award on page 71 of the March/April 2008 issue of Kung Fu Tai Chi magazine. I'm proud to know you René (well through the internet).
At least they spelled your name right. Not like mine on page 111. ;)
Congrats.

Rene was one of the pioneers of WCK on the internet and has been an influential figure spreading the Yuen Kay Shan/Sum Nung Wing Chun Kuen and aiding selflessly with hosting the Wing Chun Mailing List and later on, Wingchunkuen.com. His latest venture with his w1ng blog is another great endeavor.

If there is one person who selflessly devoted himself to WCK, it is Rene Ritchie.

Amen. An outstanding example of civility under pressure he is to us keyboard warriors, hotheads and stirrers-up of trouble.

Wow, you guys are kind, and WVTAA is very generous.

Many thanks for all the years, and hopefully all the years to come.

A Big Congratulations to my Canadian Bro Rene!

Your Yuen Kay San wing chun website was one of the first to catch my attention back in the early 90's when I first started to look outside the Yip Man wing chun system. There was ver little writtion about the mainland wing chun systems at that time. Then there was complete wing chun which was another eye opener.

Thanks for your time

After seeing it, all I can say is -

Thank god you're not wearing a speedo like the rest of your Quebec brethren. The years of torture that vacationing French Canadians have subjected Floridians to is beyond measure. Thanks for setting a sterling example! ;)

Wow, I just saw the mag and didn't realize I was being inducted alongside Wang Kiu sifu. How terrifyingly humbling.

Wang Kiu sifu holds a special importance for me, as the simple statement he released over a decade ago (about a lot of the "history" people had been quoting (even in Wikipedia!) was the product of Lee Man and his own (Wang Kiu was a journalist, I believe), putting together old Wuxia stories with famous figures from Foshan to try and help Wing Chun, a previously closely held and seldom taught system, get a foothold in Hong Kong.

That profound act of straight forwardness (and bravery, given the climate back then), that huge and amazingly selfless gift to succeeding generations of Wing Chun Kuen inspired me (and I'm sure many others) to look beyond the surface, the public perpetuations, and realize there was something more, and people who were there willing to talk about it. It helped motivate Complete Wing Chun and much more since.

Congratulations to Wang Kiu sifu, an amazing man, an amazing legacy.
