Here's the Luohan Pu Shen Chui - Luohan Protect Body Hammers set:

See the BIG difference in how he moves vs the modern monks?

FINALLY, Shi De Jian is opening his own school, it is being built right now, is what I heard.

Looks more like Chen Taiji than typical Luohan.

It's nice the way old stuff never gets to old. Even though i'm strictly a xinyi guy, De Jian and some of the other old school fellows definitely has a plase in my MA heart.

That's the WHOLE point I have been making in my articles and many new researchers in China are now saying too:
TJQ comes from Shaolin Long Fist, it's the same stuff.
Just TJQ changed more and more over time, but it starts from this internal martial art root.

I always thought it was pretty obvious just from looking at it... First few years I assumed it was common knowledge, lol.

Dejian has a retreat complex with a dozen or so disciples, nestled way back up in Songshan somewhere. I've never been there, but if you check out the BBC series Extreme Pilgrim (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showpost.php?p=830854&postcount=48), they show it, built into a cliff wall. They show this traditional stepping training (what my present teacher used to call bear walking) to carry their food and supplies up stone staircase up the mountain - very traditional. Dejian does this insane demo on top of a slanted roof where one misstep would send him plummeting.

I'm very proud to have been the first American to break Dejian's story (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=589) in our 2005 May/June Shaolin Special (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=590). I was introduced to him by a mutual friend and the interview for that article was the first time I met him. I knew almost instantly that he was our next Shaolin Special cover. Dejian is outstanding amongst the order.

Are all those extra postures in the old songs too? Or is he improving for the crowd?

Yes, you are right, that's not him.

Very interesting set, the Hong sets were originally called Hong Chui.
I wonder if this version is more closed to how it was originally done?
I always thought that the Xiao Hong Quan set looked appreviated.

it does seem to be more dense in technique. the modern postures just seem like the bones of this stuff. there's so much in between each posture there.

one thing noticeably different was instead of the three pushing palms after the slap kicks toward the end its got that crane-type posture, all facing the same direction. and that drop stance at 1:12.
