Shi Yong Zhi:
What do folks think of this fellow, who seems to be pretty popular in videos? His performance seems less flashy than some I've seen. Is this the way the forms "should" look, or missing something? Or just personal preference?

Is he a "real" senior monk? Among the ranks of those brought in just to teach martial arts, or a performer?

I like the look of his style. It seems grounded and with fighting intent, moreso than some of the younger performers I've seen who seem to frantically rush through the forms with lots of yelling.

i like his style. really powerful and traditional.

he and his real brother shi yongxiu established a school located behind yongtaisi, the shaolin "nunnery", named "shaolinsi luohanyuan".

however, i've heard he is a secular disciple, not a monk- also has a wife and child. but was hired by abbot yongxin to act as a senior monk in the temple and lead performance teams abroad.

but then of course from that said i've heard him said to be a wuseng. not a whole lot of difference. doesnt matter. if you talk to the locals in dengfeng they all say the monks there are rich, own cars, half girlfriends and all.

but anyhow besides the politics, he started training when he was 4 years old with elder master shi xingshu and i personally dig his style. although he did get slapped in the face by an american wingchun stylist, and didnt look to happy losing face like that:
