Here we are just walking through the first 30 steps of this form (A bit more than half).

We were at the Hung Sing Gwoon in Fut San, it's a 300 year old temple (it's be renovated many times, 2X in the past 2 years) and they have been teaching there for a little under 90 years!!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Remember those flip books with like a thousand pictures and you flip it really fast to see the animation...I still have a cool bruce lee one, one with nunchukas and the other side he throws the japanese karateka. It would be cool if bill gates developed a slide show program that looks like those little flip books:) it would be sweet, have like ten pic's but the graphics going through each pic looks like you're flipping a bunch...

Cool slide show man, did you guys go to china for an event, or just for a gander?.

Just planned a trip, no event per se, but the trip was extremely 'eventful'.

By the way, weren't flip books big BEFORE movies??? LOL, why would you even want a flip book anymore man? Youtube is where it's at!! Put everything on video....

I just got a pro camcorder and a Mac Tower (2 G5's) just for my upcoming video projects. That consumer handheld **** just doesn't cut it!

Glad you liked the pics....

Why were you doing a King Mui form at Futsan? (not that it isn't cool)

Yes, I also wonder about that doing a chan set in Futsan Hung Sing. Are you saying that they now teach Chan Family forms there? On another note I glad you found you temple roots.

I was with Lum Yiu Gong, a Chan Family person. He and his twin brother taught us a few sets while we were on our trip. We just decided to take pics of one of the sets while in the Hung Sing Gwoon.

I have visited the HSG before and the Lum brothers know them well. Everyone is very friendly. Besides, anyone can take pics of anything in the HSG, you coud wear pig tails and ride a pogo stick and I think they would be cool with it. They are good people.

Also, it seems to me, from my travels, that there is less about FAMILY and STYLE amongst CLF people in China, at least the one's I met over the years. CLF is CLF to them.

So, NO, they do not do Chan family sets in the Fut San school.

And YES, I was excited to find the temple too, thanks!

Peace

i was wondering the same thing about practicing chan fam sets at fut hsk....but hsk is way more than just a cool place to take pictures! there is so much history in that school alone. it was also used by hung sing/hung mun revolutionaries as a meeting hall as well as for training. it was also a chan fam school before jeung yim took it over.

Hello

This form is Siu Mui Fa from Doc Fai Wong, it isnīt the same from Chan Yong Fa (Chan family).
It is from King Mui branch; from GM Hu Yuen Chou.

Lama Pai Sifu, the twin brother are Doc Fai Wong students.

They're exactly the same form, Chan Koon Pak line through Chan Yiu Chi, there's just a few stylistic differences and a couple of different moves, as you'd expect a couple of generations on. The movements are about 97% identical.

I know what the form is and where it's from. The twins are Wong Doc-Fei's juniors, not his students as I understand.

And yes, it is a Chan Family form. The form is taken from the original Kuyhn Po which is still in the possession of the Chan Family.

I saw it performed by a guy in blue, on youtube, at a demo of Chan Yong Fa's students. Although the guy looked like he may have been a wushu guy (I could be wrong, but...) the form did have a couple of different twists to it. An extra move or two (if I remember) and some stylist differences as mentioned.

There are one of two things that I would prefer to do differently in that form as well. No big deal though.

And Frank, no one is suggesting that the Fut San school is 'JUST' a cool place to take pics; they respect CLF, period. I don't go there and debate history with them. I have visited them before, we've all compared techniques, chilled out an taken some pics. Hell, there is even pics of me in their museum.

PIC 2 (http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l212/longislandonline/IMG_1529.jpg)

No one is downplaying what there history is or where they come from. But there school IS a wicked-cool facility. My students enjoyed visiting and we were all happy to see each other again.

Just having some fun, visiting good people and doing some Gung-Fu!

No-one's arguing. Can't we have a simple discussion about the history of our art without someone going "not another argument about lineage" ? It's getting really old :p
