I am making a free Audio Book series of classic Taoist texts that I have been giving away to people.

Basically the idea is that I am recording these for myself, because I can listen to them when I'm stuck in a traffic jam while riding a bus here in China, or walking, or whatever.

I've found that they've been very helpful to me, so I decided to give the recordings to people in hopes that they can get some value as well.

Anyway, the texts that I have recorded already and am giving away are:

Chi Wen Dong - The Red Streaked Cave
The Pivot Of Jade
The Hsin Yin Ching - Imprint Of The Heart
Ching Jing Jing - Purity And Rest
Tai Hsi Ching - Respiration Of The Embryo
Universal Understanding

Tonight I'll probably do Tao Te Ching and Chuang Tzu as well and add those to the list, but haven't yet because they are alot longer.

Anyway, I want to help myself, and help other people and I would like your input.

What is your favorite classic Taoist text?

Thanks for your help

Jonathan

The oldest known Taoist text, Nei Yeh.

The written text precedes Tao Te Ching by a hundred years or so. The oral tradition may go back 500-1,000 years.

observation or understanding "the way" "the path" or the Dao/Tao.

1. we have to observe "how", "what" things are, then we follow them.

so

take a stroll in the park, by the ocean, etc are all part of it.

2. famous daoist music er quan.

there are more.

3. learn to appreciate Chinese brush painting, especially from Song Dynasty.

They vividly showed how nature: mountain(earth), river (water), heaven, and people usually very small in the paintings. how the nature is in harmony, and how people may be in harmony in them.

4. learn to appreciate Chinese garden. there are rocks (mountain), plants, ponds (water), and seats or pavillion. all the nice scenic sites in China, there are pavilions or observation points. We try to bring the harmony of the nature into our garden or backyard.

Dao is everywhere, We just need to observe.

meaning dao are not in texts only.

the famous daoist painting.

would be a migrant priest on a cattle/cow back.

meaning we have to travel and experience

to truly find dao

and not just reading books only.

Either that, or if we could get her riding a water buffalo, or vice versa. I think I'd achieve enlightenment.

For the philosophical Daoism, there are 4 + 1 texts possibly written around or before 400 BCE.

Lao Zi (Dao De Jing)
Zhuang Zi (Nan Hua Jing)
Lie Zi (Chong Xu Jing)
Wen Zi (Tong Xuan Jing)

Plus

Tai Yi Sheng Shui Pian (essay of Tai Yi creates water)

The Tai Yi Sheng Shui Pian is considered to be a cosmology possibly related to the Yi Jing (classic of change).
