some tales from Ma Tzu (from Cheng Du, Si Chuan).

Ma Tzu he entered disciple ship and monk hood at the age of 12.

The teacher asked him why you sit for zen?

Ma answered that so that I become a buddha.

The teacher started to grind a roof tile.

Ma asked sifu why you grind a roof tile?

The teacher answered that so that I can make a mirror.

If a ground tile may not become a mirror, then how can one become a buddha just by sitting for zen?

Then how can one become a buddha?

The teacher said, if the cow cart is not moving, do you beat the cow or the cart?

If you learn how to sit for meditation, then meditation may not require sitting.

If you learn how to become a buddha, there are no set forms/ways to do it.

If you only focus on sitting, then you may not see the big way or da dao.

Ma tzu then realized that to become a buddha is to realize or understand everything in life or true meaning of things in life, we do not have to confine our ways/forms to reach that.

meaning sitting for meditation is only sitting for meditation.

Jet Li talked about his idea about contribution and doing good deeds.

He is the benevolence ambassador for international red cross.

How and why he started the one foundation. (not the one the movie)

Jet Li made a lot of movies, Huo Yuan Jia, he sort of expressed his idea about ethics or wu de and what is the real enemy which is oneself--

After that, he started to dedicate his life to charity and start the one foundation to do one good deed at a time. the money or the deed needs not to be big, Bill Gates may donate a lot of money, Jet Li would prefer more people donate and do good deed and not one person donate a lot of money.

--

Starring in the movie, such as "warlords" are just side jobs, Jet Li would focus on other people and help other people.

--

no selfishness or wu si.

the movie trailer of warlords.

while shooting the movie during the day, Jet Li planed and formed one foundation at nite.

the movie is considered showing all the cruelty of war.

Jet Li said yes, the movie is showing all the violence about fighting a battle or a war.

so in the end, we will try to have a peace and cherish a peace. b/c peace is very difficult to come by.

thruout history, wars and natural disasters are unavoidable.

but if people may prolong the peace time, and shorten or lessen wars/disasters, that is something we have to think about after watching this movie. this is the message we like to send out to the audience.

Jet Li said in his interview in the previous post.

the student monk said, he does not believe that there is the heaven and the hell. why, b/c he does see it, so he does not believe it.

The teacher monk said go and bring us a pot of water.

Look!, the heaven and the hell are in the pot, take a close look.

--

The teacher said what is it like when you are in the water? like hell.

What is it like now that you are breathing freely? like in the heaven.

Yes.

When we are happy or satistified, we are in the heaven.

When we are sad or worry, we are like burning in hell.

So we would know the difference, and there is no need to go to the heaven or the hell to know what is like there.

near death experience from tsunami turned jet li to buddhism and charity.

Jet li was born in 1963.

His first movie Shaolin temple, he was only 19.

--

most people persue 3 things in life, fame, profit and power.

so 2500 years ago, a indian prince had all three. He was still in pain, or suffer, b/c, there are life and death, separation from love ones, sickness, getting old--

so what is most important in life.

considering these things that turned Jet Li to buddhism.

--

He used to work for some time and meditation for some time, go to india, or tibet etc.

after 3 near death experiences after tsunami in 2004.

Jet Li found himself, just to live every moment and practice buddhism every moment, not after retirement, but do charity now,

Honestly it doesn't matter to me the circumstances under which Jet Li came to Buddhism. What matters is that since then he has been a positive force in the world; something rare among even well intentioned celebrities.

both Jackie Chan and Jet Li revived CMA movies in the 90's

they were pretty much dead in the late 70's and 80's.
