In the city I'm in, stores no longer allowed to provide plastic bags, they seem to be going over to requiring people to have non-disposable bags for such uses, with some grocery stores now seeling such bags, though they don't seem to have enough at the moment.

Having seen a lake in Xinjiang literally covered with plaster bags from the rest of the country, I think it's a good thing, if a little difficult for me to get used to.

They're trying to implement that here in Canada as well. I've seen horrid fields in the country littered with the things.
It's a step in the right direction and I try to use my cloth bags as much as possible.

Its on the way in Oz too...

We have started using the re-usable bags, but soon, there may be a deposit on the plastic ones, or a ban.

Its been done here for the last few years already. I think it works well, before this, our national flower was the plastic shopping bag. The situation is slightly better now.

They still allow shopping bags, but you have to pay for it.
