This is inspired by huo yuan jia thread.

there are always many legends/myths among the great practitioners.

I like to avoid the word "master".

some stories I heard over the years.

if you have some interesting tales, please post away.

Yang Lu Chan for tai ji quan.

Yang is actually small and not too strong in figure.

He is good with Hong fist.

He went to Chen Jia Gou and stayed there 3 periods of times.

meaning it is difficult to learn TJQ from Chen Chang Xin.

So Yang is not big or plumb.

Guo Yun Shen for Xing Yi.

again he is small and short person.

However, he practiced half step Beng Quan with heavy shackles on while in jail.

When he came out, he then moved very fast and with ease without the schackles on.

half step beng quan was powerful enough and defeated everyone that came to exchange hands north of yellow river.

Li Shu Wen

He is a short and small person, too.

He had many enemies. He was always in hidding one way or the other.

He did have military generals and rich families "sponsoring" him.

and that was why no pictures or photos ever left behind.

my point is that

they are all short and small and even sickly weak persons.

and yet

they practice their arts to a level that left names for themself.

Dong Hai Chuan

He again was a small and weak person.

since he was an eunuch and worked as a servant in a King's (relatives of the emperor) mansion.

He never revealed his past.

in the old times, if you are a servant, then you adopt your master's last name and belong to his family. Your past will be secretly recorded and not to be revealed.

but one thing for sure, Dong learned many styles of CMA from daoist priests.

He was short and not too strong. but he was very diligent and intelligent, he integrated many styles/disciplines of CMA.

one day, he was with dishes of foods and running among people and tables in the dining hall, and no one could catch him.

the King or wang ye then recognised his wushu. and allowed him to teach members of royal family.

my point is that the protrait of dong is like overweight or big.

it may be not representing true him.

yes a eunuch may gain weight.

but --

we would never know, would we?

Zhang Quan Liang explained 3 principles of Ba Gua Zhang.

1. Walk to find circles or mai bu xun quan 迈步寻圈

We do not confront the opponent's arm/move or force, we walk away from it. We may contact hand but emtpy there and walk into a position that is advantageous to us.

2. Going away like the water flows. qu yi ru shui 去意如水

We move like the water flows. We go to the side. If the opponent's going at the top level, we may go at mid or low level.

The opponent is using his arm or leg to hit. We find the curved in area, such as near shoulder or hip joint, just like water goes to lower or curved(dipped) in area.

--

3. There are reels all over our body. zhou shen jie zhou 周身皆轴

We may rotate our forearms, the waist etc. We neutralize and deflect the opponent's power and his roots.

--

the main thing/characteristic about the 3 styles of nei jia quan

is change. We have to change or be flexible in every thing we do from stepping, arms, ---
