I noticed on your resume' that you attended numerous seminars. Do you have certificates of completion, or certificates of attendance? They mean nothing without those sheepskins, ya know.

I also noticed a gap of 17 years between seminars - what were you doing during that time? Any of the following is an acceptable response:

1) Boddhidharma Training: stared at cave wall until eyelids fell off

2) Ashida Kim Ninja Training: "disappeared" by donning ski mask and moving into parent's basement

3) Branch Davidian Training: worked with charismatic religious leader on establishing spiritual "retreat center"; assignment followed by period acting in "consultative" roll to U.S. AFT agents.

TenTigers brings up a valid point about your certifications. If you don't have the "sheepskin" then you have to prove to us by executing the techniques you learned flawlessly.

**That gap is somewhat large. Maternity leave and child rearing are also acceptable answers in my book.**

On serious note, you have given a lot of personal info away here to people who you probably don't know that well. Maybe you should have thought it over a little more before putting down your life's story here. I appreciate your attempt to strike up rapport with us but a lot of the people here will not reciprocate, as you may have noticed. Unless you know people here personally, I would just keep everything formal and casual (but not too complacent).

What do I do now? I really am interested in knowing what your resume says!! Do you think I should try a blue one.....or maybe a black one?

Why yes I do. You may contact any of them and they will also verify that I did in fact attend and participate in these seminars. Sijo Rusty Gray & Master Bruce Linville are both in Nashville area if you would like to contact them. In fact if you think that I'm bull sh!tting I'll be more than happy to supply phone numbers? Jeff Smith, Terry Creamer, and Bill Wallace I could n't tell you where they are now but they would remember (assuming they havn't lost thier memory....lol) doing a seminar for John Dufresne (I'll provide his phone # as well) back in late 80's and/or early 90's. Dufresne will attest to the fact that I was at these seminars. But yes I do have certificates and pictures from the seminars I stated I attended because like you said if you don't have them then it doesn't mean a thing to anyone else who might be interested in learning from you.

To be totally honest the reason I posted a resume is for a couiple reasons. #1 was to start a new topic because all the other topics were old and going nowhere. #2 I wanted to see how many people would respond in a negative way and critique it (which they did). #3 Just in case someone was interested in learning and lived in my area they could see my credentials. But mainly for reason #1 and #2

Its not the first time the topic was posted and in some sense its good to know who you're communicating with. I like what Forrest Griffin said going into his Jackson fight when someone said you're coming off a big win.... "That's ancient history." And he's talking about a bigger fight than any of us will most likely ever have.

The past is the past. No one brags about their Apple IIC computer. What's happening now, that's what's important. I don't want to get into a traditional vs. MMA debate. I only say the bar has been raised. Fighters are improving their all around skills. Where a black belt in karate may have impressed someone in 1985, today they shrug it off. That's a dime a dozen and available in four years at your local strip mall.

If you want to consider yourself a player in martial arts today you have to bust your a$$. You have to be comfortable dealing with real striking, you have to have sound escapes on the ground and if you need to have submissions. You'll probably be best at one, the one you grew with, but it's your obligation to be rounded.

Sorry, you seemed to have missed my point. Pardon the sarcasm, but when someone starts posting their reume' out of nowhere,-especially when it's padded, it raises flags. .Seminars and the paperwork they include, unfortunately, are no indication of retention, comprehension, or skill. Anyone who pays the fee, can attend a seminar, and will on completion-even if they simply stood in the back and watched, will get the sheepskin.
Jeff Smith, Bill Wallace, and Joe Lewis are doing "The seminar circuit." Just call the toll-free number below and they will come to your school. I have attended many such seminars, hosted by other schools, organizations such as EFC, and Hadassa Bake sales, and I have the ruggala and the hummintashen to prove it.

It seems to me that most of the people that are posting comments are being extremely rude here (including me but that only in defense). Didn't your teachers teach you better? Or are they rude like you all. It seems like you guys need a class on humility, respect, and just plain ole' manners in general. Yes I have said some pretty rude things here lately but its been in retaliation against the rude things you guys have said. Does it make you feel more of a man to put someone else down? Does it make you feel that your Dog Brothers Seminar techniques you learned are better if you bash someone else who attended a seminar by someone else? Heaven for bid if someone might know more than the Dog Brothers. Seriously. Why be so F n' rude? What the F does it matter to any of you guys that I posted a resume' and better yet what the F does it matter to you guys what it says? And lastly if you think its all a fraud and/or I didn't comprehend it and keep it in retention then all I have to say is "bring it, dont sing it".

nope. I don't care for Krav Maga. It looks no different than the kenpo I used to do. Nothiing new there, just repackaging. Isreali, Russian,Navy Seals, whatever. I'm shocked nobody's done a Bounty Hunter's Tactical Grappling seminar yet.
As far as the Gracies Bandwagon goes, I've been bringing in BJJ, NHB,Mohng Gu Suht-Gow,Silat, and Collegiete Wrestling guys into my kwoon for over 20 yrs. As well as Kali, Krabi-Krabong,Muay Thai, Muay Chaya,(one of my guys is a personal student of Gen. Ajarn Amnat) etc. not for creds, but for training. No sheepskins, no bragging rights- it doesn't go on my website, or on my wall.

It's another example of mrkii thinking that people will be impressed that he can drop a bunch of names. He got burnt pretty hard for that on a previous thread and left a bunch of us with the impression that he was likely either a troll or a 14 year old LARPER.... so he posted his resume (an extensive list of names he wants to drop) in hopes that it would reinforce his argument that he is a middle-aged badass.

LOL

Totally off topic: I saw a video of some people doing that NERO boffer larp... I had a friend about half a decade ago who argued that it was "really hardcore".

When I finally saw what they were up to I nearly split a gut seriously that was some funny ****.

Okay. That was my fault then.
But seriously the reason for starting this thread was because I was all out of ideas on topics to start. I was getting tired and bored with the same ole' ones. Just thought it would be nice to see everyones accomplishments and what styles they do, thats all. I wasn't trying to boost my ego or brag or anyhting like that. If I known it was going to cause this much arguement I wouldn't have started it. Believe me, I come from a very traditional school where ethics, morals, and humility are stressed at every class. The 3 H's were stressed by Grandmaster Wing Loc Ng.........humblness, humility, honor.

are you a Rolfer?

I cannot make the claim that i am a "Rolfer",although, i would love to learn Ida's system of structural bodywork. Actually what i do is similar and has aspects of Ida Rolf's work contained within. The Method i Utilize is the "Lauterstein Method". Its an integrative system actually, but definately works with the fascia and employs some of the same techniques that certified Rolfers Use.
Since we are dropping places we've been and who we have studied under. I went back to the Lauterstein/Conway Massage School and clinic and got certified through them. I originally went in 1994,but quit to do more martial arts training and to be a teacher(long story which im sure many here are aware of).

The New career and field of practice is great and i am finding that i am much better at doing the Healing work than trying to learn how to beat the tar out of someone(although for ego macho sake i will state that i could definately knock someones block off if i wanted to,getting pummeled myself in the process;) )

Maybe i should start a new thread in the training section and title it "Integrating Healing work in with your martial practice". I feel that those of us who study the fighting arts have a one up in the healing arts community as we have learned to hurt and damage the body, plus learning how to work our physical body in an athletic manner, we become more intuned with our own physiology and therefore have set our minds in motion to learn how to heal it and treat those injuries that occur frequently in the working and fighting realm.

anyway it was a long answer but there it is CJ. :)

Peace,TWS

Actually mkriii I generally post about things that interest me and have a tendency to post personal experience posts about recent events when I want to start conversation. However I have been on the kung fu magazine forum for a long time and certain habits are open to ridicule. Massive name droppings are one of my favorites and you do it oh so much.

Now see, I really wasn't trying to name drop intentionally but since your accusing then I might as well go on and name drop.

One of my good friends is Gary Stearns who was rated #1 on the NASKA circuit for a very long time got decovered by a talent agent from Hollywood California. Now Gary has appeared in several movies as a stunt double. He did stunts in movies like Mortal Combat, Pirates of the Carribean II & III, and The Matrix II & III. Keaunu Reeves gave Gary a brand new (at that time) Harley Davidson Motorcycle as a gift when they did the final wrap. At the end of these movies you can see his name under the stunt peoples names. Gary was a classmate of mine. Gary was a male Cheerleader for Eastern Kentucky University. He was in a couple episodes of Walker Tx Ranger and Dark Angel also.

Two others that I know is Ho Sung Pak & his brother Ho Young Pak who were on the NASKA circuit. They have been in several movies but probably the best known one was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One of my friends and instructors at Four Seasons dated one of them (she met him through tournament competition).

I met Michael Krasanoo who was in I believe Kickboxer III . Also known on tournament circuits as Mouse.

The list of names I could drop is long but so is my Johnson.

Any other comments?

oh yeah, and Paris Hilton was checking me out. No really, I swear. Well, she was staring at me, kept looking up at me. I was at a resteraunt in NYC and she was there with her bf, the limo was parked right out in front.
In retrospect, she was probbably thinking,"Who is that creep that's staring at me?!"
But it's my story and I'll tell it my way.:p

I harlot slapped David Carradine.
Actually true.

One of my earliest lessons in the Asian style of "proper comportment" was at a post-tournament banquet given by Henry Cho.
David Carradine was "in attendance" with his current "coach" and he was thoroughly stoned.
(all together now!)
"HOW STONED WAS HE???!!!"
He was SO stoned that he passed out and fell face first into his bowl of soup.
The assembly of Masters/Instructors refused to be "flustered".
They looked about at each other.
They issued Chi-laden shoulder-shrugs.
They went back to their conversations.
It was left up to his own "coach" to nudge him so that he fell back from the table and did not drown in his own soup.
Said "coach" received a good many pitying looks.....
He was NOT a happy camper......

I think Kam Yuen's worst nightmare is that he will be remembered not for his great skill and technique, or all the articles he put out and the information he imparted, or his choregraphy work, but that he taught David Carradine.
-Which in my understanding, was very briefly.

I don't think K.Yuen trains him anymore. David Chow was the guy who also trained him for the old show, but mostly, that wasn't really "actual" kungfu path training, it was more like when your Sifu teaches you some choreographed moves for a kum na sao demo or something, and even then, go back and watch those things and see the skill level...or rather lack of it. :)

it is my opinion that for the most part, people of such large ego as most movie types are, are simply incapable of learning any decent martial arts with great depth and most pursue it from a hobby-quest sort of standpoint.

I believe that Carradine is a poor example of kungfu skill and wouldn't regard him as a kungfu man per se. All boozing and slacking aside, he has never demonstrated any actual skill.

There's my ragging about DC. :p

If you watched "Kung-Fu the Legend Continues" one of the thing that stands out, in my mind is, that after supposedly "training" in Kung-Fu for over 20 years, all he can manage is a half-arsed crescent kick and a palm strike.

His teachers should get the Humanitarian of the Year Award for devoting so much time to teaching the handicapped.
