Alvin is the submercible used to explore the deepest parts of the ocean we can reach.
with the current old design thats 2.8 miles down. with his new upgrades we can reach just beyond 4 miles.
that is a HUGE upgrade in being able to study deep sea life.
Pretty intersting stuff if you're into that kind of thing.
