Hi,

I'm travelling to Shenzen, HK and Macao late next week for eight days. Does anyone have any suggestions on great places to visit in terms of tourist attractions, eats or martial arts related??

Off tomorrow! Any suggestions greatly appreciated. BTW, does anyone know of any bilingual (Chinese/English) bookstores in the three cities? Would love to pick up some copies of the Classics while I'm over there.

you must see the Dai Fut San -Big Buddha Mountain on Lantau Island. Great cable car ride up the mountain-spectacular view! Do not eat at Jumbo-the huge boat restaurant-it's really just a restaurant, nothing special. There is a beautiful walk along the boardwalk, where you see the walk of the stars, very much like Hollywoods walk of the stars, with handprints of people like Jacky Chan, Jett Lie, etc, and a beautiful laser light show. The city is totally lit up and is beautiful.
If you are from NY, you will definately appreciate the Hong Kong subways-they are clean, and the maps are simple to read. It is easier to get around HK than NYC, and most speak English, so you can forget the phrase books.
There is also the Ten Thousand Buddha temple, watch out for monkeys.
Jook Lum Ji is in Kowloon. They spell it Chuk Lam Sim Yuen (Bamboo Forest Zen Garden) but it is a beautiful spot as well.

OH yeah-Victoria Peak! You must go there as well. Great tram ride up the mountain. Great view!
I did a 4 day tour of Malasia and Singapore when I was there. Book it in Hong Kong and have a Chinese friend do it. DO NOT book it for a westerner. You will end up paying several times the price. Just bring a translator, but be ready to eat, eat, and eat!
Have fun. You probably won't want to come back, here after that.
I miss wonton mein and jook for breakfast.

What you actually want to ask is ….. where are the cool red light places in maccau??Pretty much everything about HK is cool. Can just be a little expensive – that’s if you don’t come from the usa or Europe where the currency is valued more.Just go there and enjoy your trip, you wont get to see all the cool places, but the places you will see will be all cool enough.* Mr Kellerman, you should come to Wuhan. The ladies are so hot here .... this isnt the hottest city in china for nothing** :D

Eddie and TenTigers,

Thanks for the input guys - had a great time over there. Went and checked out two WC kwoons, Yaugungmun and Taiji kwoons while in HK - all in the same block. The Yaugungmun guys opened up a new restaraunt near Yaumatei station too, so got to see their lion dance while over there. The hot and sweltery weather meant pretty much all the women were pretty hot too :D

Eddie,

Dunno about the red light district in Macau - its been twenty years since I was last there, and seems like much of the city is a huge casino. The portugese food was great, but think the mainland like Zhuhai and Shenzen are the places for chinese food.

TenTigers,

Thanks for your suggestions - thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing, and you're 100% on the money about getting family/friends to do the bartering  Couldn't beleive the difference in prices in Shenzen and HK though, and the standard of living of some was a real eye opener. I met a woman and her son who had cerebal palsy over there and many were treating them like she had the plague - its clear what the young man's condition was, but with no state support system and an over-populated country, they're left to fend for themselves.

All in all a great, eye-opening trip. Thanks for the tips guys!
