Hi guys

anyone can tell me where I can get some decent MMA gloves at a good price???

Just checked one place and it is over $AUD75.

Bit surprised.

Oh and how have you found fighting/sparring (kung fu, etc) with these kind of gloves?

Thx

BTW - anywhere in Sydney would be ideal.

Do not use 4 ounce gloves for sparring. You will break your partners. Get 7 ounce training gloves for normal training.

thats true but what we say at our kwoon ; in sparring only hit as hard as you are willing to get hit, and if your too rough no one will wanna spar with you and that only hurts you!!!!!

Thanks - will have a look online this wkend. I"m looking at getting two sets then 4 and 7.

how much should I expect to be paying?

Are you able to apply most of your kung fu techniques with the MMA gloves?

Thicker gloves allow you to hit harder with less damage. Playing pattycakes with small gloves will not improve your skills.

Everlast MMA gloves are horrible and cheap. Go to combat sports if you are going to have them shipped. Usually, though, the shipping to AUS kills you guys, so I assumed you were looking locally.

We use These 7-oz gloves (http://www.combatsports.com/CSI/ProductDetails/StyleMasterDetails.aspx?pid={86a01bb2-36b9-435f-8e19-1a3400c1e9f5}&pname=MMA+Training+Gloves&Referer=QUICK_SEARCH&Alias=tg-4&ptct=BS-SR&CTitle=&). Except for finger techniques like Pheonix eye, etc...you can do just about any technqiue with these on. They get in the way a little bit on the ground, but safe is better than sorry.

We also were these shin guards (http://www.combatsports.com/CSI/ProductDetails/StyleMasterDetails.aspx?pid={88fceb98-b51e-4296-bed3-7904535b6295}&pname=Top+Contender+MMA+Grappling+Shin%2fInstep+Gu ards&Referer=QUICK_SEARCH&Alias=shin&ptct=BS-SR&CTitle=&) because they don't move or come off once you hit the ground.

If you run your own club, get a wholesale account somewhere. You'll save a ton of money.

I bought a pair of these about a month ago and really like them. While they're bulkier than 4-ouncers they are light-years ahead of traditional foam sparring gear that lots of traditional schools still use. Much easier to do grabs.

I wouldn't even train with MMA gloves. Boxing gloves for striking. Maybe wear them if you're doing ground and pound drills, but light.

No need to kill each other in training... train your jiu-jitsu and don't use power. Don't even try to win. Just flow with good structure. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get tapped.

Train your striking in the air and against a medium-weighted bag. Not too heavy!!!

Spar with head gear and gloves. Keep it friendly. But if egos arise let them be knocked out one way or another but someone overseeing with early stoppage calls to protect everyone and everything.

This is good training.
