buddhist chanting 108 times everyday

works for me.

:)

That was delightful, thank you SPJ!

Just wondering, was that the 'best' you could find... er, I know that sounds wrong, but what were the criteria you had for choosing that one in particular?

Is it a traditional style? The backing music was 'nice' but sounded a bit new-agey Chinese. Is that what Tibetan music sounds like?

If it's anything like the chanting in Buddhist monasteries and temples over here there's usually no music, or there's a drum or a bell only. Would that also be the case?

While this is from a sect considered somewhat dubious by some this (http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=lx2kZjPoc2o) is more typical of the Japanese style. It's also Lotus Sutra related, from the Souka Gakkai, a modern offshoot of Nichiren.

This (http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=p2UauRR8_SA&feature=related) is from a temple that I stayed at. The sound quality can't do the tones justice. The vibrancy and resonance is incredible: that in itself will move you even without knowing any of its origins/meanings, and the acoustics are superb.

I appreciate that its an acquired taste to some though!

I like a lot of Western monastic chants too... and just to show it goes the other way, this (http://www.japantoday.com/category/lifestyle/view/classic-music-used-to-ferment-miso-natto) is a pretty interesting article from this morning's Japan Today.

There are many chanting.

I only know a few.

It is a belief that if we chant we may remember or commit our mind to whatever we chant.
