- catching an arrow

- 1 inch punch

- underwater blowgun

I'm DVR'ing it :D

I hope if they test the 1 inch punch it's legit and not like 99% of what I've seen on the net where the guy moves his body forward but PULLS HIS HAND BACK so it's more like a 5" punch.

They just showed him break the last of 3 boards suspended in the air by a rope! Dim Mak!!

I don't know the ninja's name cuz I missed the first 20 min. I'll go back and watch it later cuz I'm recording it.

It was an interested episode.

As far as the one inch punch, they had one of the guys punch and measured it and it was around 325lbs of force. The one inch punch measured a little over 100lbs, and then he said that the 3 in. punch was more realistic. This is the punch where you put your finger tips on the person and then roll them into a fist as you punch.

This punch registered at a little over 200 lbs.

They're on the inside back cover. July August 2008 (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=769)featured Anthony Kelly (http://www.anthonykelly.com.au/). He holds a bunch of Guinness World Records for speed oriented stunts. He's a ninja, but he also has a background in Hung Gar. I daresay we'll be hearing more from him soon. ;)

From his website:

"He has mastered, to Black Belt level, nine different martial arts and Anthony is committed to offering you the best martial arts training in New South Wales, and possibly all of Australia."

NINE?!?! Back in tha day, I didn't think that your rank carried over to another martial art.

Let the flames begin...

I wish they had let Anthony do the "normal" punch, too, instead of Jamie or Adam (whoever it was). Just for comparison. Cuz they were comparing:

Normal person, regular punch

vs.

Ninja, 1 and 3 inch punch

So we know that a ninja can generate 2/3 as much force from 3 inches as a regular person can with a normal punch, but how much can a ninja generate from a regular punch?

I will say that I was glad to see he didn't pull his hand back any, like so many people seem to do.

Anthony has really fast hands. Surprisingly fast. Thus all the records. It's hard to fake out Guinness. All the belts, well, it's all about his hand speed. When you're that fast, it easy to pick up such credentials. I found Anthony to be quite friendly and open about his skills. Beyond teaching, he makes his living traveling the world doing speed stunts. I respect that. My fav is his record for punching 11,557 times in 1 hour.

this is the speed punching record he broke. im sure he's a nice guy and i dont mean to rain on his parade but come on. there was no power in those punches at all. if you look at the slow motion at the end the pad barely moved. a boxer or wing chun practitioner could easily beat that record and do it with some power. :( sorry guys....

That was horrid, please don't tell me that Guiness actually bases its records on a hand held push button device?

SimonM

It would appear so.

And the judges must have drunk at least a number of pints equal to their age of guiness before judging an event.

Any one of those punches could kill an entire army.

That scene took 2 hours to shoot before he could actually catch the arrow. So says IMDB.com.

That's because he wasn't a real ninja like this guy on Mythbusters.

Simon-"The Last Dragon" is a classic, and a must have on anyone's list.
The MA isn't great, although there are some moments. The lines are priceless, and have become standard phrases., such as "Bruce LeRoy" "Nigga, Please!"
"Who's Da Mastuh!" and "Sum Dum Guy!"
It's very dated, very 80's, sometimes very embarassing to watch, but it's hysterical.
Also watch for some familiar faces, like his henchman, who has appeared in a few Segal movies, local NY Martial Artists like Pete Traina,David Claudio, and of course Ernie Reyes Jr-who is about 9, and his father Ernie Reyes Sr.

Greatest quotes from that movie:

" Well, well, well. If it isn't the serious, elusive Leroy Green. I've been waiting a long time for this, Leroy. I am sick and tired of hearing these bull**** Superman stories about the wassa legendary Bruce Leroy catching bullets with his teeth. Catches bullets with his teeth? Nigga please."

"Keep your money. You just get that sucker to the designated place at the designated time, and I will gladly designate his ass... for dismemberment!"

Theater Patron: Why don't you sit down and shut up?
Sho'nuff: What? Why don't I sit down and what?
Theater Patron: I said why don't you sit down and shut up?
Sho'nuff: Why don't anybody who wants me to sit down and shut up come down here and make me? Why don't any fifty of you who want me to sit down and shut up come down here just for the fun of it?

Word!

After their robot ninja hands failed to catch the robot sword even after perfecting the timing mechanism they gave the "ninja black-belt" a go. But did they put him up against the robot? Nooooo! Instead they gave him partial gauntlets and then put a blunted sword into the hands of the girl (whose name I don't recall) who could barely lift the **** thing, let alone wield it, from the looks of her performance. Needless to say mr ninja managed to catch the blunted sword one-handed without harm.

I cry foul!

Foul I say!

Bah, a True ninja would have caught the sword in his teeth, used it to strip the girl naked and used his "tanto" on her in all sorts of shinobieske ways !!

If memory serves, that was the first ninja episode - the one where they messed up my name in the credits (see 2007: Year of the Ninja? thread starting at post #7 (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showpost.php?p=754617&postcount=7)). The second episode was the one with Anthony Kelly (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showpost.php?p=889401&postcount=13). I only saw the Kelly portion of that one.

Have there been more?

a real ninja would have teleported out of the way of the sword and then stripped the girl butt naked just by thinking about it.

The episode may have been a repeat... it ended with... Adam?... walking on "water" by blending an ungodly amount of cornstarch and blue food colouring into it.
