I didn't realize this was even an issue. The sanctioned fights I've been to (san shou, mma, et al), alcohol was not allowed on the premises. From these pictures though, it looks little more than some bar holding a "Tuff Man Kontest", or someone setting up an octagon cage in their backyard...

Have you been to a sanctioned fight where they allow booze?

Every major card in North America is presented in a venue where food and booze are made available.

any arena or casino match will have booze at the venue.

I don't know about tournaments put on in schools and such. Those generally aren't considered sanctioned under any significant institution though.

I went to a local Thaiboxing event back home last year. They sold alcohol at the venue, and I think that was a big mistake. Though there werent any bad incidents that happened, the tension was really bad. I think we were just lucky.

I dont think having alcohol at such an event is really a good idea.

Availability of booze and boozing is common in many scheduled fights. One of the funniest conseqences for me was when Ed "Too Tall" Jones of the Dallas Cowboys made his brief debut in boxing against a much smaller 175 pound Mexican journeyman in Las Cruces, New Mexico back in the 80s.

Ed Too Tall was knocked down bya left hook- but the judges called it a draw. Bedlam broke out-
beer cups and all sorts of unidentified flying objects flew through the air. Sugar Ray Leonard
was there. The late Howard Cossell was making his usual silly spin on TV- and an unindentified flying object spun his toupee around on his head when he was broadcasting..

Cossell vowed never to return to Las Cruces again. End of Too Tall Jones' boxing non career and
goodbye to that particular Cossell toupee. And the booze flowed on.
