There were a ton of places to post this, but I'm feeling like a new thread. And this topic seems like something that could garner some action.

KUNG Fu cops have karate-chopped their way into the record books after completing a 36-hour martial arts training session.

There was no previous record for the longest training session, so the 10 members of the Greater Manchester Police Martial Arts Club could have stopped after 24 hours.

Inspector Melita Wordswick said: "It was quite tempting to call it quits at that point, but we had so many people coming along to support us and we wanted to set a record that would not easily be broken.

"The hardest time for me was training throughout the night, when your body tells you that you should be asleep."

The team began their attempt at Manchester College in Ardwick with non-stop training for two-hour stints broken by just a one-minute break.

They hope to appear in the Guinness Book of Records next year and have also raised funds in aid of CLIC Sargent, a charity that cares for young people and children with cancer.

But this is kind of what I had in mind for this thread. I get these occasional newsfeeds about some bizarre qigong/jianghu stunt in China trying to bust into Guinness. Here's a typical one.

Man pulls car with eyelids (http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2008\12\12\story_12-12-2008_pg9_5)

A Chinese martial arts enthusiast pulled a one tonne car by a rope fastened to his eyelids. Luo Deyuan, 21, of Guiyang, also pulled the vehicle by fastening the rope to a piercing in his neck, reports Guizhou Metropolis News. He said he learned his skills from a local master, adding: “I really wanted to do something special.” And he says he has succeeded as his bizarre stunts have been featured on television as far away as Mexico. Luo says he has another 23 stunts, including lifting two buckets of water with his eyelids, stopping electric fans with his tongue, and walking on sharp blades. And he is now hoping to get his name in the Guinness Book of Records, adding: “I really want to perform my stunts on a bigger stage.”

Woman sets world record at martial arts tourney (http://suncoastpasco.tbo.com/content/2009/jul/28/pe-woman-sets-world-record-at-martial-arts-tourney/)

Cheryl Cleveland celebrated Independence Day by setting a world record. While competing July Fourth at the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Championships in Orlando, she set a martial arts record for most boards broken by a female with a side kick.

"Cheryl broke five 1-inch-thick pine boards placed back to back in a metal holder with a skipping side kick," read a related news release. "In recent years the record was four boards, held by multiple women from around the world. Now Cheryl and one other competitor from Texas hold the world record at five boards."

Cleveland, 30, is chairwoman and CEO of Community Fun and Fitness Center in New Port Richey. She has 24 years of martial arts experience, and was first introduced to the sport at age 6.

"My main focus has always been Tae kwon do but I also explored Kenpo, Uechi Ryu, Capoeira, Kali Kuntao, and Kung Fu a bit too," she said. "I first got involved when I was 6 years old. One of my older brothers was taking Tae kwon do and would come home and show me what he learned in class."

"He was really just using me as his training dummy," she said, adding with a chuckle, "I don't remember if I joined because I liked what he was showing me or felt that I needed to defend myself from him."

She considers her new world record the highlight of her career.

"I have won quite a few trophies in sparring, forms, and board breaking but never anything like this," she said.

She first learned about this world record through extensive online research before the tournament; armed with this information, Cleveland started working toward a new goal.

"I made sure I did 100 crunches, practiced my forms, and side kicked a heavy bag as hard as I could every morning," she said. "Sometimes I would kick the heavy bag so hard that the bones in my fingers would hurt from the shockwave...I knew I had a good kick when that happened."

At the actual event, Cleveland set the new world record on her second attempt.

"Once I realized I had broken all of them it was such an awesome feeling," she said.

Cleveland, also a tae kwon do instructor at the New First Baptist of Odessa, wants to pass this feeling onto her students, inspiring them to overcome the odds to achieve their goals.

"This is a story of perseverance I can tell my students because my side kick was by far my worst technique for years until right before I got my black belt," she said.

Inspiring people to get the most of martial arts and fitness is the idea behind Community Fun and Fitness, Cleveland's Pasco-based nonprofit organization headquartered in a building donated by New First Baptist Church of Odessa.

Community Fun & Fitness Center, at 1234 Gunn Highway, is a nonprofit organization in Pasco County that will offer donation-based fitness classes and community service events for all ages and all incomes, she said. "I formed this organization in 2007 with hopes that I could provide all ages, toddlers to senior citizens, a place to join physically and mentally beneficial classes (like martial arts and dance classes) all on a donation-based system so that everyone could afford to take part in something that has been such a good part of my life," she said.

She even took out a personal loan to pay for the $100,000 renovations the building needed before its scheduled 2010 opening.

"We just got a new roof, and this week the building is getting a face lift with new exterior paint and a new parking lot," she said. "I really hope once we are open people will rush in to take advantage of our donation based classes."

In Cleveland's eyes, the rewards of studying martial arts are well worth the work.

"The most important benefit by far is confidence, especially for women," she said. "Women usually feel that there is nothing they can do if they are attacked by a man who is so much bigger and stronger than them. In the first class I have my students learn to break boards with a palm strike. Right away I see their confidence grow and I know that they are already more able to defend themselves should the need arose. Flexibility is also something that I see develop in students. Other benefits are: strength, endurance, discipline, overall health, the list goes on and on."

In the future, she plans to compete at the US Open World Martial Arts Event again in 2010 - this time, she'll try to break her own record.

"Next year I will try for six!" she said.

Kung Fu Marble Breaker (http://english.ntdtv.com/ntdtv_en/ns_me/2009-08-18/685472068187.html)

Breaking marbles with your bare hands? Seems hard, but then you haven't met this man. He uses martial arts to break glass with his legs.

Syrian martial arts performer Jamal Koukeh breaks not only marbles but also stones and blocks of marble--much of it with his bare legs alone. Koukeh is preparing for his attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records. For that, Koukeh trains three times a day.

[Jamal Koukeh, Martial Arts Performer]:
"The body passes through three phases during the day, a phase of activity, a phase of medium activity and a phase where there is no activity which is at night which is a very important phase where you have to train because the body is tired and the muscles are not active so we try to refresh the muscles."

Koukeh, a mechanic engineer, became the Syrian champion in free fighting in 2005. He was the world champion eleven times and Universe champion three times.

He trained to be a free fighter in various countries, including South Korea and Thailand. Koukeh began breaking stones when he was only nine years old.

between her hands on the back of her head and the rope going on her back, I would say that most of the power was not absorbed by the hair or scalp.

Female Kung Fu master pulls 8 cars with hair (http://www.nbc-2.com/Global/story.asp?S=10994539)

Kung Fu masters are renowned for their feats of physical prowess and endurance, but one woman recently took it a step further.

52-year-old Zhang Tingting took up martial arts when she was 17 and always felt her hair gave her power.

Recently she decided that her calling as a nun was more important and hatched a plan to go out in a burst of strength.

She's pulled cars before, but this time she dragged eight one-ton vehicles about 30 meters.

It was short of the Guinness record of 100 meters.

Still, she said she wasn't disappointed.

"I'm very happy. For me it's not a question of success or defeat. Although I didn't pull them far, I am still happy. It's all experience."

Then with monks and nuns around her, she had her head shaved.

She plans to devote herself to life in the monastery, but says she will still practice other forms of kung fu.
So now I'm wondering who holds the Guinness record for car hair towing?

Buddhist nun tows cars with braid (http://www.skynews.com.au/offbeat/article.aspx?id=366580)

A buddhist nun in China who claims her hair is instilled with the power of kung fu has towed eight cars using just her plait.

Kung fu master Zhang Tingting pulled the cars, weighing more than a tonne each, 30 metres through the streets of her hometown in Henan province.

She wanted to prove the strength of her braid one last time before allowing it to be cut off in accordance with rules for Buddhist monks.

The martial arts expert said she wanted to show that kung fu was for women as well as men.

Man proves he has world's strongest fingers (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/6385592/Man-proves-he-has-worlds-strongest-fingers.html)
Fu Bingli, a kung fu master from China, has proved he has the strongest fingers in the world.
Published: 12:27PM BST 20 Oct 2009

Bingli – who has been studying martial arts for 32 years since the age of just seven – can stand upside down supporting himself on just one index finger.

On Monday he scooped the Guinness world record for completing 12 press ups on just one finger of his right hand.

"I've been training since I was seven years old and my index finger has as much strength in it as most people's entire body," said Fu of Lianyungang, eastern China.

Last week the world's smallest man, Khagendra Thapa Magar, revealed his wish for his 18th birthday to be officially recognised by the Guinness World Records and to find a wife.

The 2ft tall teenager is a full head and shoulders shorter than He Pingping of China, who at 2ft 5in is the current holder of the world's smallest man title. He is now waiting for official recognition from Guinness World Records.

"Now I have turned 18 I want two things: to be recognised by Guinness and to find a wife who is small like me," said Khagendra.

The tiny teen, who weighs just 10lbs, first contacted the Guinness Book of World Records three years ago, hoping to be recognised as the world's smallest boy.

Khagendra has become something of a celebrity in his native Nepal, where politicians have backed his Guinness campaign.

Born weighing only 1lb 5oz in the remote Baglung District, 125 miles from the capital Kathmandu, Khagendra's family members believe he was destined for greatness.

Fu’s Fatal Fingers (http://www.popfi.com/2009/10/20/fus-fatal-fingers/)
Posted 10/20/2009 12:00 pm by Ron Hogan

When Fu Bingli gives you the finger, it might just kill you. The kung-fu master from Lianyungang, China, has what might be the world’s strongest fingertips. Not only can he do 12 push-ups using just one finger, he can also do a one-fingered hand-stand, supporting the entire weight of his body on one finger while upside down! I’m not sure I could do a single one-handed push-ups, let alone 12 one-fingered push-ups!

What makes Fu’s fingers so remarkable? Years and years of practice and physical training. Fu has been training in kung-fu since age 7, which gives him about 32 years of training. That explains why his body is just so incredibly gifted. Why he chose to strengthen his hands this much or how he realized he could do his remarkable finger feats I’ll never know, but when Fu says, “My index finger has as much strength in it as most people’s entire body,” he’s definitely not exaggerating!

KUNG FU MASTER CARVES SENTENCE ON A FLY'S WING (http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/143528/Kung-fu-master-carves-sentence-on-a-fly-s-wing)
Tuesday December 1,2009

A KUNG fu master has created the smallest carving in the world.

So Chen, 42, carved an entire sentence in Chinese characters on a fly's wing to prove his ability.

The sentence - which translates as 'I am at the bottom of her valley of no love' - was taken from his favourite martial arts novel.

He told the Austrian Times: "I have studied king fu for 20 years and I used the breathing techniques I had learned to stop my hands from shaking because one slip would have torn the wing to pieces."

Martial artist smashes world record by snapping chopsticks with his throat (http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/news/Peter-creates-new-record/article-2221012-detail/article.html)

A MARTIAL arts expert has smashed a world record – by snapping 30 chopsticks against his throat.

Peter Love, aged 49, routinely shows his mastery of Shaolin Kung Fu by washing his face with broken glass and snapping a house brick with one hand. He can even withstand an axe blow.

Now he has entered the Guinness Book of World Records after performing his latest feat in front of a packed crowd at a martial arts show held at Birmingham's NEC Arena.

Peter, chief instructor at the FMA Fujian (Chinese) Martial Arts Centre in Longton, said: "The official record was breaking 12 chopsticks against the throat at one time, although someone claims to have done 24.

"We set the stage up and I performed it in front of the audience. I broke 30 against my throat.

"You have to do them one at a time and to be honest, I could have kept on going. It was only the clock that stopped me. I had one minute to break as many as I could. They were just ordinary chopsticks you would find in any Chinese restaurant.

"You wouldn't want to try it at home. You could leave some nasty marks, or the chopstick could splinter."

Thirteen years ago, Peter, of Tunstall, couldn't walk a step after he sustained crippling spine injuries in a serious car accident.

He was already an expert in karate and Chinese Kung Fu at the time and says it was his devotion to the martial arts which helped him walk again, six months after the accident.

His daily breathing and strengthening exercises helped boost his recovery, then he trained with a small karate club until he felt his back had recovered. Then he continued to research martial arts alone, eventually studying Shaolin Kung Fu in London.

Within three-months he was asked to teach and he was then invited to Singapore to train with a Shaolin master.

Steve Eastlake, of Weston Coyney, is an instructor at the martial arts centre after training with Peter for seven years. The 28-year-old has mastered the "iron shirt" techniques, which include snapping chopsticks against the throat, and he also performed at the martial arts show in Birmingham.

He said: "I didn't know if I would be able to do it. The first thing you do is six months of breathing exercises, to strengthen internally and externally.

"Watching Peter break the world record was inspiring."

Martial arts student Nikki Strike, aged 35, of Longton, who has been training with Peter since last September, said: "It was awesome, unbelievable."

Peter is the author of a book, called Shaolin Kung Fu: The Lost Art.

For more information about Shaolin Kung Fu, contact the Martial Arts Centre on 07968 080834.
I've never heard of his book. I've been to focused on my own book. Read Shaolin Trips by me. (http://www.martialartsmart.com/btc-gc01.html);)

Shi Liliang, a Kung fu monk of the South Shaolin Temple at Quanzhou, made a new record of drifting 28 meters on the surface of the water on July 5 after drifting 18 meters last year, according to Chinanews. com. cn.

At about 7 a.m. on that day, Shi and his apprentices linked some pieces of plywood into a 30-meter-long "water passage," After he practiced running for several hundred meters on the bank, he stepped on the "water passage" at a very quick speed and drifted 28.7 meters setting a new record.

AS THE cool morning breeze blew across Woodlands Stadium on Sunday, almost 3,000 people swayed to a slow and steady rhythm.

Dressed in red and white, participants looked like they were rehearsing for a mass display in the upcoming National Day parade.

But the large gathering, which included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, labour chief Lim Swee Say and several MPs, were there for another reason.

They were aiming for a place in the Singapore Book of Records as the largest mass qigong display.

And they did it with ease - smashing the previous record set by Ayer Rajah-West Coast constituency Sports Club last September.

Then, 765 people performed qigong together. On Sunday, there was more than triple the number of people - exactly 2,698.

Chinese Man Pulls Plane With His Eyelids (http://www.weirdasianews.com/2010/06/12/chinese-man-pulls-plane-eyelids/)

In an unbelievably weird and phenomenal performance, a Chinese martial arts expert has defied the laws of gravity (not to mention the limits of human belief) and actually pulled an airplane for five meters (more than 17 feet) by a rope hooked onto his eyelids!

Certainly seeming like an act from a festival conducted by the likes of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Dong Changsheng, aged 50, performed the stunt in front of many observers at the Changchun International Exhibition Center in Jilan Province.

After fastening two metal hooks into his lower eyelids with ropes attached to the amphibian plane, he pulled the aircraft, which weighed half a ton, in less than one minute for sixteen feet.

A student of Kung Fu for nearly forty years, Dong has amassed many awards for his seemingly super human prowess.

“I have pulled a car with my eyelids before, but this was the first time with an aeroplane…To be honest, I didn’t use my full strength and I think I could probably pull it three times the distance. I have built up the body strength to do this but it would be very dangerous for ordinary people…I don’t want anyone to copy me,” Dong told the City Daily newspaper.

The martial arts expert has performed other amazing feats in his lifetime and in fact, makes a living traveling around China performing startling feats of skill to packed audiences. Three years ago, he pulled a car with his eyelids for about thirty feet and he attributes his ability to do this to a system of breathing exercises known as Quigong.

Perhaps even more amazing is the fact that according to some, particularly a man named Jim Rose, Dong’s feat is child’s play compared to the acts performed in his circus in Scotland. He claims that his cast of performers can do even more amazing things, like stapling a dollar bill to a forehead or lifting heavy objects with male genitalia.

Who is to really say about such feats of skill?

I guess one criteria when watching Dong would be to quietly ask yourself:

Could I ever hope to do that?

I don’t know about you, but I know what my answer is!

What do YOU think about this?

Xiamen Kungfu practitioner can hand walk for 60 metres within 30 sec (http://www.whatsonxiamen.com/news13662.html)
Updated: 30 Jul 2010

Fan Congcong, a lifeguard at a swim club in Xiamen, can handwalk for 60 metres within 30 seconds after practicing martial arts for about 17 years, reports Strait Herald.

The 20-year-old muscle man comes from Zhoukou city in central China’s Hunan Province, and is now working as a lifeguard in Xiamen.

His father is a bodyguard whose dream is to become a Kungfu star. Obviously, Fan’s father wants to live vicariously through him and intends to train Fun into a Kungfu master. So Fan’s father has required Fan to practice Kungfu since he was three years old.

When Fan was twelve years old, he was sent to the Shaolin Temple in Mount Songshan of Henan Province. After so many years’ practice, he can now climb stairs and run quickly while standing on his hands.

Recently, the Council of Shanghai Great World Guinness intends to recommend him to perform his stunts on CCTV. Fan said that he hoped he could become a Kungfu star like Jackie Chan.Figures. Another Shaolin graduate...;)

3,000 perform Wing Chun kung fu together for world record (http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90782/7151117.html)
16:55, September 26, 2010

A total of 3,170 practitioners of Wing Chun, a form of Chinese kung fu, from resident and villager committees of Luo Village and foreigners from all over the world performed the nine series of Wing Chun Fist, including Xiaoliantou and Xunqiao, to rhythmical and powerful music in Luo Village of Nanhai, Foshan, hometown of Ye Wen, kung fu master and teacher of Bruce Lee, on the morning of Sept. 25. Their skilled movements and tidy performance won a rapturous ovation from the audience.

There were white-haired old people, innocent children and many foreigners in the performance group. Reporters found that more than 3,000 enthusiasts in the group were local residents of Luo Village and the others were Wing Chun enthusiasts from Wing Chun associations worldwide.

"This is my first time to participate in the activity. I am now 62 years old and dozens of my disciples also came with me. We return to the Ye Wen Temple to look for our roots almost every year," said Guo Simu, who opened a martial arts club in the United Kingdom.

The Britain-based General Headquarters of Guinness World Records also attended the activity to witness the birth of a new record, and announced that the large-scale Wing Chun Fist performance by more than 3,000 people successfully created a new record in the Guinness World Records.

A female monk over the age of 50 pulled six cars weighing 9 tons connected by a rope for 15 meters with her bare hands, astonishing all people on site, at the road before the Tan Zhe Temple on the outskirts of Beijing City On Nov. 18.

The 53-year-old female monk, or Master Hui Long, was named Zhang Tingting. She once pulled six cars with her hair in Beijing in 2009.

Master Hui Long said she is a Shaolin martial arts practitioner, who learned the difficult form qigong since her childhood and is versatile with various martial weapons. She traveled around China to learn and put into practice her martial arts when she was young.

In 1989, she went to the Shaolin Temple to learn more about martial arts and has become a lay disciple since then to devote herself to Buddhist meditation except martial arts. She said she also taught foreigners martial arts before.

Master Hui Long said she performs to demonstrate the marvelous Chinese martial arts, especially Shaolin Kung Fu.

Liu Yu, professor from the Shanghai University of Sport, said an ordinary man is also capable of pulling a car or two after receiving a certain amount of exercise. Master Long Hui, who can pull 6 cars, was indeed beyond ordinary people, but that did not mean she really needed 9 tons of strength. She only needed to overcome the friction between the ground and those cars, which was much easier.

A power sensor bound to the rope could tell you how much effort Master Hui Long used to pull the six cars, the scholar said.

Incredible ... female Shaolin Monk Master Tingting, 53, pulls cars weighing more than nine tons (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3236459/Monk-in-amazing-nine-ton-car-pull.html)
By STAFF REPORTER
Published: Today

A WOMAN who learned Kung Fu from her grandad from the age of three has pulled six cars weighing more than NINE TONS.

Shaolin Monk Master Zhang Tingting, 53, shamed the men who had tried, and failed, to perform the feat.

She said: "I think my grandfather would have liked to have taught a son, but my parents only had a girl.

"Then when he saw how good I was he was really proud."

Tingting showed off her skills to the public when she towed the cars 50ft outside the Tanzhe temple, at Mentougou in Beijing.

Several men among the visitors had already attempted to move the cars — but they only started to budge when mighty Tingting started pulling.

She said: "I haven't pulled cars in this way before, so I really was a little tired."

Tingting was allowed to join the monastery as an apprentice in 1989 and is now a master and award winning Kung Fu fighter.

...although I have encountered sword swallowers in China that claim it is an expression of their qigong practice.

February 2011
Ripley’s St. Augustine to celebrate Sword Swallowers Day (http://staugustineunderground.net/2011/staugustine/news/florida/ripleys-st-augustine-to-celebrate-sword-swallowers-day/1422/)

http://staugustineunderground.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/sword-swallowers1-300x168.jpg

Nearly 20 sword swallowers will be “dropping swords” at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditoriums worldwide at 2:26 p.m. on February 26, in celebration of the Fifth Annual World Sword Swallower’s Day.

As part of the international event, Atlanta’s Chris Steele will headline a free sword swallowing show outside the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! St. Augustine Odditorium. The performance will start at 1:30 p.m., with the finale at 2:26 p.m. The Odditorium is located at 19 San Marco Ave., 904-824-1606.

World Sword Swallower’s Day was founded by the Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI) and is co-sponsored by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! locations around the world.

Why World Sword Swallower’s Day?

“We sword swallowers risk our lives every time we swallow swords, but many people don’t believe it’s real, or they think the art has died out,” explains Dan Meyer, a sword swallower who has been featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not! “We established World Sword Swallower’s Day to raise awareness of the medical contributions sword swallowers have made to the fields of medicine and science, to honor veteran performers, to raise funds for esophageal cancer research and the Injured Sword Swallower’s Relief Fund (with donations matched by Ripley’s), and to correct myths by putting on sword swallowing demonstrations for the public and media around the world.”

Why is Ripley co-sponsoring it?

“Because it’s great entertainment,” said Tim O’Brien, VP of Communications for Ripley Entertainment Inc. “Sword swallowers and Ripley go way back to the very first Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, set up at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. There, three performers, two of whom were ladies, mesmerized the huge crowds. Ripley’s has been home to sword swallowers around the world ever since.”

“It’s a huge honor for us to carry on the great tradition of sword swallowers who have performed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museums over the years!” Meyer explains. “In light of this, SSAI is sending out an open invitation to all sword swallowers around the world to contact us and join us in swallowing swords at Ripley’s Believe It or Not museums and other locations on the 26th!”

The art of sword swallowing began more than 4,000 years ago in India, and requires the practitioner to use mind-over-matter techniques to control the body and repress natural reflexes to insert solid steel blades from 15 to 25 inches down the esophagus and into the stomach. With the demise of the traveling circus sideshow over the past several decades, there are currently less than a few dozen full-time professional sword swallowers actively performing the deadly art around the world today.

I'm told that this isn't that hard as the eyelid muscles are quite strong. You just have to have the gumption to stick something in your eye and clench down on it, which is a feat in itself.

Kung fu card hurler (http://news.myjoyonline.com/lighternews/201105/65488.asp)
Last Updated: Tuesday, 10 May 2011, 11:59 GMT Previous Page

http://news.myjoyonline.com/photos/news/card%201.jpg

A Chinese man has carved out a new career as a card sharp - by using his kung fu training to hurl playing cards like throwing knives.

Bai Dengchun, 23, can throw cards with such force and accuracy that he can slice a cucumber or burst a balloon from 16ft away.

His parents thought his unusual hobby was a waste of time - until a slot on TV led to an opening as a performer in magic shows.

Bai, from Qingdao, northern China's Shandong Province, showed off his skills by throwing 28 cards into a watermelon from 10ft away.

He can also use his card-throwing talents to break an egg or knock off the end of a lit cigarette from a friend's mouth.

"The cards are like darts to me. I can precisely hit any target within a five metre radius," said Bai, who learnt kung fu from childhood.

Ironically, he developed his talent because he was such a poor poker player: "When I was young I loved playing poker but I always lost," he explained.

"I would always end up throwing my hand away and eventually I realised I could throw the cards a long way away - and very accurately.

"Three years ago I decided to give up poker and take up throwing cards instead.

Each month I used part of my salary to buy cards to practice with and it's paid off."

Dressed in full martial arts attire, Jiakai looked every inch like cultural icon Bruce Lee as his antics attracted plenty of attention.

It took Jiakai an hour to complete the unusual task which no doubt would have left him in a spin.

It was a valiant effort from the 47-year-old who didn't stop or stand up during the whole event - although the reason for his hour of head-spinning is not yet known.

The local builder was aided by his brother-in-law throughout the stunt, who acted as an escort and witness to the bizarre spectacle.

It seems his apprentice struggled to keep up with the acrobatic stuntman however, revealing: 'His tumbling is really faster than our walking.'

It is the stuff you only see in Hollywood films.

A sword-wielding Samurai cuts a pea sized bullet traveling 200 miles per hour, fired at him from 70 feet away.

But this is real-life and the super human feat has been achieved by Isao Machii, a modern-day Samurai who started honing his unbelievable sword skills when he was a child.

He was taught by an old master from the age of five and has now graduated to become the headmaster of a samurai school.

Machii's sword skills have become so accurate that he accepted the challenge from filmmakers to see if he could slice a tiny pellet when shot at him from a BB gun.

All of the action happens at such an incredible speed that it is almost impossible for the human eye to register.

In order to capture this amazing feat on screen, filmmakers used one of the world's most sophisticated high-speed cameras for slow-motion analysis.

Machii is recorded at 250 times slow motion performing the incredible feat.

The Guinness World Record holder shows incredible hand eye co-ordination to pull off the challenge.

RamanI Durvasula from California State University was stunned.

She said: 'This is about processing it at an entirely different sensory level because he is not visually processing it. This is a different level of anticipatory processing.'

If you think that asking someone to break three solid bars of ice (each measuring 150 kg.) in 30 seconds on the head is outrageous.

Then one would find it tough to come up with an adjective to describe a feat in which a Tindora (Coccinia grandis or Ivy gourd) is cut into pieces on the tongue with a big sword.

Admirable feat

Well, such acts that test physical endurance and courage are providing 25-year-old Bonmon Rakesh with a foothold in the record books. Thanks to a series of such acts, Mr. Rakesh has made it to ‘Record Holders Republic, India', ‘Amazing World Records' and ‘India Book of Records'. A black belt holder in Taekwondo, Mr. Rakesh received the Indian Book of Records certificate for his Tindora cutting feat on Sunday.

“My ultimate aim is to make it to Guinness Book of World Records. But it needs a lot of practice and many more such records before entering into the elite group. Taekwondo has taught me discipline and given me strength to endure pain and endurance levels,” he explains.

The martial artist has many more exploits to his credit. They include allowing others to break two granite (100 kg each) stones on his stomach with a hammer, breaking 10 tiles on the head with a big hammer, completing a 10 km run within 45 minutes and breaking 10 clay pots with flying taekwondo kicks.

So what is the secret behind his endurance levels? “It's just daily practice. Strengthening exercises for head, shoulders and chest. Putting up long hours of taekwondo practice and mental preparation,” he says.

Rich haul of medals

A resident of Musheerabad, the martial arts expert has also won five gold, six silver and four bronze medals in tournaments organised by A.P. Taekwondo Federation.

“Such feats are possible only if one has enough zeal on martial arts. There is also a need to maintain a proper diet and funding to break records,” he says.

KPMG proved it isn't a firm to be messed with when staff took to the streets of Canary Wharf to show off an array of kicks and punches.

Around 330 employees from the 15 Canada Square headquarters were among 800 from KPMG offices nationwide who took part in the record breaking synchronised taekwondo routine.

Called the Big Blue Kick, the exercise was held to raise £50,000 for children's charity Barnado's.

It took place on Friday morning and saw Cheryl Baker from TV show Record Breakers cheer on the workers at Montgomery Square on the Canary Wharf estate.

Head of CSR at KPMG Mike Kelly said: "We had a fantastic response from staff who came out all around the country to set a brand new world record and raise money for an excellent cause.

"As well as raising money for Barnardo's, the Big Blue Kick enabled us to demonstrate our support for GB Taekwondo in what is of course a huge year for them with the London 2012 Olympics coming up fast. It's an amazing discipline - most of us were worn out after just a ten minute non-contact routine!"

Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd has helped break the world record for the largest synchronised taekwondo routine to raise money for a children's charity.

The actor joined employees of professional services firm KPMG in Glasgow for the Big Blue Kick in support of Barnardo's.

The co-ordinated martial arts display took place in locations across the UK including London, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds. It involved about 900 people.

The routine raised £50,000 for the charity and was officially verified as a new Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people participating in a co-ordinated taekwondo display at multiple venues.

In Glasgow, martial arts instructors Nikos Jakubiak and Angie Bailey led Mr Boyd, 30 KPMG staff and students from the Central Taekwondo Academy in Falkirk through the routine.

Mr Boyd said he felt privileged taking part in the world record. "Everyone taking part has had a lot of fun raising money for such a worthwhile cause," he said. "By setting this new world record, KPMG have helped raised awareness for Barnardo's Scotland and the great work they do with young people across Scotland."

KPMG has raised more than £1 million throughout the UK for Barnardo's in the first 18 months of its two-year fundraising commitment to the charity. The company also sponsors the Great Britain taekwondo team.

Craig Anderson, senior partner for KPMG in Scotland, said: "We had a fantastic response from staff keen to help set an impressive world record and raise money for an excellent cause. As well as raising money for Barnardo's Scotland, the Big Blue Kick enabled us to demonstrate our support for GB Taekwondo in what is a huge year for them."

SallyAnn Kelly, acting director of Barnardo's Scotland, said: "This is a great achievement by KPMG. The money raised will go towards helping the invaluable work we do with vulnerable children every day."

Steve Flynn, commercial manager at GB Taekwondo, said: "Congratulations to the staff of KPMG for their fantastic efforts and for their continued support of the GB team who I'm sure will be inspired by your success today."

One of our most popular world records over recent years has been the hotly contested tightest parallel parking title.

The record has changed hands five times in the past two years, with our video of German driving ace Ronny Wechselberger's successful attempt last year becoming something of an internet sensation with viewing figures hitting the millions.

When Patrik Folco neatly slid his way into a gap measuring just 22 cm (8.66 in) longer than the car he was driving last month, it set a benchmark that looked unlikely to be broken.

However, the record has indeed once again been smashed, this time by Chinese master wheelman Han Yue.

Han last week managed to shave off an incredible 7cm from the record, drifting into a space of just 15 cm (5.91 in) longer than his vehicle.

The attempt took place in Beijing as part of the launch for a new special edition of the Mini called The Chinese Job.

Watch Han make motoring history in the clip below.

They may not have his fists of fury or his fighting prowess, but they are channelling kung fu legend Bruce Lee in a bid to improve their health and set a world record.

More than 270 Calgary seniors, joined by their children and grandchildren, gathered at the Silvera for Seniors Aspen Lodge for a half-hour of “Cane Fu,” using canes and breathing exercises to simulate techniques from the martial art popularized by Lee.

The hope is to make it into the Guinness World Record book for the most people engaged in a chair-based exercise for 30 minutes.

Seated in chairs or wheelchairs, participants moved canes or wooden rods in swooping motions, above their heads and around their bodies, to build flexibility, all the while practising breathing exercises.

And after half an hour, it was enough for even the more able-bodied volunteers to work up a sweat.

Hazel Gehring, the oldest participant, who turns 98 next month, said the exercise was “tiring” but she enjoyed the enthusiasm the instructors brought.

“It was an experience,” said Gehring, whose daughter, Janet Gehring, also participated in the half-hour session.

Gehring, an eight-year resident of Aspen Lodge, said she stays active with daily exercise classes and walks around the residence.

Another senior, 93-year-old Sybil Levigne, said Sunday’s activities “felt all right” on the body. But her favoured workout is still to waltz the night away, she said, gesturing at her “sore feet.”

Martial arts instructor Rod Coulter, who led Sunday’s session, said these exercises are possible even for seniors with limited mobility, and help build strength and improve circulation.

In fact, seniors who have been participating in Shawnessy’s Cane Fu pilot program have reported feeling healthier since taking the class, said Silvera for Seniors CEO Arlene Adamson.

“They are stronger, standing taller, using their walkers much less,” she said, adding she hopes to bring the program to Silvera’s other seniors’ lodges.

An event like this also helps show that seniors aren’t just fading in the background, but enjoy taking part in fun activities and want to live full and healthy lives, Adamson said.

Getting Sunday’s 30-minute Cane Fu exercise session into the record books would simply be icing on the cake.

“Seniors, at no matter what age, have big dreams, want to participate, want to do something fun,” she said. “This is one of their goals.”

SHANGHAI: Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan was awarded the Guinness World Records title for "Most credits in one movie", during a promotional event in Shanghai on Wednesday, reported Chinese media.

Chan had taken on 15 key production roles in his latest film "Chinese Zodiac", including director, producer, fight choreographer, and interestingly enough, composer.

He took the title from US director Robert Rodriguez who had 11 production roles in one of his previous films.

Chan was also awarded the Guinness World Records title for "Most stunts by a living actor", in recognition of the countless stunts he has personally performed in his hit films like "Police Story" and "Rush Hour".

The veteran actor downplayed his achievements when he spoke with Chinese reporters during the event.

"I am really not superhuman; I only want to focus on getting the job done," said Chan.

"The potential human beings have, far surpass their own imagination."

Chan is scheduled to visit Singapore on December 18, to promote "Chinese Zodiac", a film he had previously described it as his "last major action film".

Didn't realize Shen Jianzhong was a world record holder. And here I've been thinking there are no street applications for all this. ;)

More on Shen Jianzhong (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1198847#post1198847).

Man Uses Bruce Lee Moves to Protect His Home (http://www.weirdasianews.com/2012/12/07/man-bruce-lee-moves-protect-home/)

Jianzhong Shen, a 38-year-old father, defended his family’s home from men who tried to kick them out of their house.

For the past 20 years, he has been practicing Bruce Lee’s kung fu in his courtyard. Shen also holds the world record for the most pushups using a roller.

http://www.weirdasianews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Jiangzhong-Shen-500x310.png

The Shen’s house is included in a remodeling project that requires the family to leave.

“They called it a remodeling project, to turn our village into a town,” Shen said. “They wanted to tear down the whole street, and promised we would get a new house of the same size in two years, as well as rent to cover the interim, but I heard of people in a neighboring village getting a much better deal, so we refused to sign.”

According to Shen, at first the property company had posters warning locals about consequences for families who refused to go. After most families left, the consequences became worse.

“This mob of thugs would block the street on most days. They would pick on the women, threatening to kill their kids. Then people started tossing bricks through windows and letting off fireworks at night. Some people got beaten in the streets.”

This past October 29, “30 to 50″ men showed up at their door to try to throw them out of their home.

This is when Mr. Shen showed his kung fu skills. Together with his 18-year-old son, also a kung fu devotee, they attacked the men and knocked seven of them out in the hallway.

“It was quite messy. Only seven people were injured because the rest were scared and stayed outside. Some of them ran away,” Shen said.

http://www.weirdasianews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/thugs.png

Sadly, when the police arrived, it was Shen and his son who were at fault. The police said that since the men were unarmed, Shen and his son were in the wrong and were told to just sign the contract.

They moved out on the night of November 21. Upon arriving in Beijing, his son was arrested by the police and was charged with assault.

“I do not regret the fight, but I am worried about my son. I think they are trying to [tie him up] with some crime. I am concerned that my actions will end up hurting him,” Shen said.

Saudi Gazette - Mohammed Alshoaiby

Tae Kwan Do black belt Ahmad Amin Bodla, 21, broke two Guinness World Records on Wednesday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The first record was for “number of kicks in three minutes,” breaking Indian master Sidhu Kshetri’s world record of 620 kicks with 783 kicks with one leg.

The second record was in the number of punches in one minute in the Wing Chun style of martial arts, breaking Australian master Mick Faber’s 301 punches with 313.

“I feel quite proud and happy that all this hard work has paid off,” said Bodla after breaking both records. There was a lot of pressure and a lot of hype, but despite all that, Alhamdulillah (thank God), I’ve broken the records,” he said.

Bodla, who hails from Pakistan, has studied in Riyadh’s King Saud University (KSU) and will be on his way to Pakistan next week.

The decision to break the records, Ahmad said, was an ode to the time he spent here among students and professors at KSU.

“It was my mission to create that memory here in Riyadh, because I’ve spent a good time here and when I look back, I want to look back at this moment,” he said.

Bodla currently holds 18 Guinness World Records in various martial arts categories, including most full-contact Wing Chun-style punching strikes in two minutes, with 1,204 strikes, and fastest time to strike 100 martial arts punches, coming in at 7.66 seconds.

The results of Wednesday’s attempts were reviewed by a panel of judges present at the event, held at a Fitness First, who confirmed Bodla’s record, while the video footage will be sent to the Guinness World Records to officially tally the results and publish them within the next two months.

Ahmad’s father, Zia Ullah Anjum Bodla, was present at the event, cheering his son on along with friends and family members.

“I’m humbled and I bow my head before Allah Almighty because without his blessing and kindness, no achievement can ever be made,” he said.

Bodla first became interested in martial arts when he was 17, as his father recalls: “I was deployed operationally in a far-flung area near Lahore, and Ahmad met an army soldier who was an expert black belt in martial arts. From him, he was inspired to follow this path.”

Bodla’s journey through martial arts was challenged by a childhood struggle with asthma, his father said: “Incidentally, Ahmad was very slim and weak and I never thought he would become so strong, but because of his personal dedication and zest, Masha’a Allah, he has been able to achieve this standard.”

On entering the demonstrative and performance side of martial arts, Bodla said: “Five years ago, I started training as a beginner, when I was 17 years old.

The main thing was getting the black belt.”

But Bodla said the black belt was not enough of an achievement for him, and while seeking out other challenges he came across the increasingly popular field of martial arts demonstration.

“I saw a video of a Spanish master breaking a world kicking record in one minute, and I thought ‘I’m going for this record.’

“When I told people that I’m going to break this record, they used to laugh at me.

“Today, Alhamdulillah I have 18 world records.”

Bodla said he will continue to seek world records with the help of the global leader in the field, Guinness World Records, and the support of his family and friends.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Ahmad Amin Bodla merited his experience by successfully breaking three Guinness World Records in martial arts on Monday in Lahore.
The 20-year-old bettered his own world record by landing 835 kicks in three minutes using one leg. He improved from 783 kicks that he had performed in Saudi Arabia in August last year.
Bodla also broke the record of the most kicks in a minute which was held by America’s Raul Meza, by landing 355 kicks.

He also broke the record for the most punches in one minute, which was previously held by Australia’s Mick Faber. Bodla punched 325 times using one hand.
“It’s an aim for me to make more records as a Pakistani,” Bodla told The Express Tribune.
“I train every day for three to four hours. Preparing for these performances is tough, but I’ve been doing it independently. I already have 26 Guinness world records.”
Bodla recorded these feats in the presence of an audience and three judges who counted the kicks and punches at the Legends Martial Arts Club Engineer Sports Club.
According to one of the judges Shafiqur Rehman Khattana, Bodla’s achievements make him an asset for Pakistan.
“It’s an honour,” said Khattana. “He is the only Pakistani to break into the field with so many world records. Before him there were only foreigners who have held these records .
“He is an inspiration. When new athletes come to train for martial arts they have a role model in Bodla,” said Khattana.
‘My ambition to create records started in 2011’
Bodla stated that his ambition for creating world records began in 2011, when he saw a video of a Spanish master making a world record with the most kicks in a minute.
According to him, he took up taekwondo as his father’s guard had been a black belt in martial arts.
“I was 14 at that time,” he said. “My father had a guard who was trained in taekwondo. That was the inspiration for me. I trained with him initially before being certified as a black belt.
He further stated that in order to verify his credential for Monday’s records, the footage will be sent to the Guiness World Record headquarters in the UK, which would take three months.

Anthony Kelly is a martial arts expert with lightning fast reflexes and, for Guinness World Records Day 2014, he broke the record for catching spears from a speargun.

Record holders and potential record breakers worldwide came together on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary of the day in 2004 when Guinness World Records became the world's best-selling copyright book, according to its website,

Mr Kelly, who assists at Armidale High School, organised the Australian leg of GWR 2014. Students and teachers from the school took part.

"We attempted two records at Armidale High School; the first was for the most people head-banging and we succeeded in that," Mr Kelly said.

"[We had] 320 people [headbanging] to AC/DC's It's a Long Way to the Top."

The second attempt was for the most thongs thrown, which the students unfortunately missed by just 19, because half the students forgot to bring their thongs to school and some students were away on excursions.

"Any multiple record like that, you must have a minimum of 250 people participating," Mr Kelly said.

But the best effort was Mr Kelly's own record, which he set in the swimming pool at Sport UNE at the University of New England: not once, but twice.

The event involves catching the most spears shot from a speargun, from a distance of two metres, underwater in one minute.

The record stood at seven, but Mr Kelly caught first eight, then 10, spears.

Mr Kelly is a learning support officer at Armidale High, where he handles a group of children with special needs and engages them in extra-curricular physical activities..

He also teaches reaction training and kung fu classes at Duval High School.

He is not a spearfisherman himself, but his interest in the record comes from his incredible reaction ability and the difficulty of the event.

Around the world, various events took place to mark GWR 2014.

In London, the world's tallest man, Sultan Kosen, met the world's shortest man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi, for the first time, at St Thomas's Hospital.

The pair also posed for photos outside the Houses of Parliament.

Mr Kosen, 31, from Turkey, measures a staggering two metres, 51 centimetres, while Mr Bahadur Dangi , 75, from Nepal, measures just 54.6 centimetres.

In Tokyo, the record for the fastest 100 metres on all fours was set at 15.86 seconds by Katsumi Tamakoshi at Komazawa Olympic Park Athletic Field in Setagaya.

In China, a record was set for the most people eating breakfast in bed. Three hundred and eight-eight people congregated in Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai, to eat their morning meal, breaking the record by 99.

The world famous Moulin Rouge in Paris also participated in GWR 2014 with three successful attempts.

They were the most simultaneous demi-grand rond de jambe cancan kicks by a single chorus line in 30 seconds (29), the most spinning splits in 30 seconds (36) and the most times to position one leg behind the head in 30 seconds by an individual (30).

In New York, home to some of the world's biggest and best fashion labels, the largest high-heeled shoe was created by Jill Martin and fashion brand Kenneth Cole. The shoe is 1.95 metres long and 1.85 metres high.

In an astonishing attempt at the world's longest basketball shot made backwards, Thunder Law of the Harlem Globetrotters landed a shot from 25 metres. An American NBA basketball court is 28.65 metres long.

10,021 college students have succeeded in punching and kicking their way to a new world record for the largest Wing Chun kung fu show ever seen.

The participants studying in the Sichuan Southwest College of Civil Aviation were seen simultaneously showing off their martial arts skills in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on January 8, reported China News Service.

Guinness World Records representative John Garland announced that the students managed to smash the previous record for the world’s largest Wing Chun display which was set by 3,167 participants in Foshan, Guangdong Province on 2010.

The college started teaching this particular style of kung fu last summer. According to staff, the self-defense training could help the future aviation workers to combat potential terrorists or unruly passengers.

Wing Chun which is considered a national treasure in China was popularized by grandmaster Yip Man (aka Ip Man or Yip Kai-man) who passed his knowledge on to martial arts star Bruce Lee.

Jayanth Reddy, who holds several records, believes in not only improving the state of Indian martial arts, but also says that people can live upto 150 years if only they are aware of the potential their bodies hold

Watching 53-year-old Jayanth Reddy dishing out a flurry of kicks and punches during his morning training session at Jalagam Vengalrao Park can make one question if age was ever a factor for this 8th Dan (degree) black belt Taekwondo Grand Master from Hyderabad. He's been making headlines for the past few years, notching up individual Guinness World Records almost at will — a total of 12 records, including two team awards. Apart from that he's also the winner of eight US Presidential Sports Awards.

Although his personal achievements areoutstanding, Jayanth's main goal is to help Indians achieve world records in martial arts. A total of 2,000 people who have undergone training at his academy ever since its inception in 2010. He is now coming up with a first of its kind martial arts league in India, right now in early stages of planning.

"Martial arts has given a lot to me, and I want to give back in any way possible to increase its popularity. In the next three years, I wish to help another 10,000 Indians achieve world records. This will improve India's reputation in the world of martial arts, which is currently dominated by countries like China, Japan, Korea and Thailand. I plan to do this not just through my academy, but also through the International Taekwondo Champions League that I am working to establish. This will feature top athletes from the world over spread out in four weight categories, and will be held in city wise franchise model that is so popular these days with most sports. If cricket can garner the amount of excitement it does, I'm very sure this martial arts league will be able to match it on every count," says Jayanth, who is also a practitioner of Kung Fu, Karate and Thai Boxing.

Jayanth started his run of clinching Guinness records on August 31, 2010 by clocking 171 round kicks in just one minute. His latest record was clocking 4,344 round kicks with one leg in an hour on December 19, 2014. He plans to break three more records in the future. When asked as to what his toughest challenge was, he says, "The record attempt when I broke 34 eight by four inch cement blocks with spinning cartwheel kicks in one minute would have to be the most gruelling experience I've had to date," says the father of two.

For Jayanth, it was the search for a healthy lifestyle that preceded his tryst with martial arts at the age of 12. "Bruce Lee was a huge inspiration for me and one thing led to another, and I chose to try it out. My parents were initially sceptical about it and thought that I'd end up as a gangster, but as I started to win awards in the martial arts circuit, their attitude changed. They were proud of me, and I haven't looked back ever since; I have no regrets! What's more, I was able to charm my wife too!" says Jayanth with a laugh.

He is also a proponent of how the mind and body can be fine-tuned to achieve healthy living, and has authored two books. "I want to help people overcome their addictions and live a healthy lifestyle. With right kind of diet and organ strengthening exercises, I believe people can live for 150 years. People find that hard to believe. I tell them to make a judgement after I achieve that," says Jayanth.

Pakistan Taekwondo black belt Ahmad Amin Bodla has broken the Guinness World Record for most squat thrusts in one minute with 40 pounds weight on the back.

“I did 23 repetitions while the previous record was 21 by Paddy Douyle of England. It is a great honour for me to make records for my country. I work very hard for these performances. I have achieved a lot of international recognition over the last few years.,” Bodla said, while speaking to APP.

However, Bodla was disappointed that in Pakistan it was difficult to get rewards for these activities. “The priorities of the concerned sports authorities do not facilitate athletes other than cricketers,” he said.

Bodla is also the first Pakistani to be inducted in the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame, courtesy of his 32 world records, including five recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records and one by Germany’s Book of Alternative records.

The 22-year-old has been creating world records of most kicks, knee-strikes, and punches since 2012, and within a year, he became the first Pakistani to break the record of most kicks in three minutes (616) which he improved again (783) in 2013.

He also holds the record of most martial arts kicks in a minute (355), most kicks in an hour (6,970) and most full-contact knee strikes in a minute (79).

I'd be bummed too if I fell second to cricket.

This week’s video is a little nutty - Mujtaba Hassan Mughal has just shattered the record for the Most walnuts smashed with a nunchaku in one minute.

The martial arts student from Pakistan cracked a stunning 97 walnuts in just 60 seconds using a nunchaku, or nunchucks – a potentially dangerous weapon which originated in Japan. As you can see in the video, not all of the nuts were counted as several did not shatter. But thanks to the speed of Mujtaba's attempt, he still achieved an impressive total.

Around one million people are estimated to have participated in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous tai chi practise session, organisers claimed.

The global event was organised by Jiaozuo City located in Henan Province, reported the Chinese language Henan Daily.

Jiaozuo which is known as the birthplace of tai chi invited people from more than 50 cities in China and abroad to join the record attempt on October 18.

More than 50,000 people performed tai chi simultaneously in 15 different locations in Jiaozuo itself.

However, it's yet to be confirmed whether the city actually succeeded in creating a new world record.

Organisers are hoping the event will help the Chinese martial art into UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list.

About 300 million people around the world practice tai chi.

Wow. That's just staggering. Way to go Jiaozuo!

BEIJING - A group of 300 people who cooked four tonnes of fried rice in Yangzhou in the eastern province of Jiangsu have been told that they failed to break the world record because the food had been wasted, confirmed Guinness World Records Ltd. on Monday morning.

"We held back on publicizing the results because we had been reviewing the information submitted by the organizer," Sharon Yang, Guinness Greater China marketing director, told Xinhua.

"The organizer admitted that 150 kilograms of the rice was handled improperly. The products created in any record attempt involving food must be given to people and not wasted. Hereby, we have notified the organizer that the record was revoked," she said.

This decision came after reports that the rice was used as pig feed.

This year is the 2,500th anniversary of Yangzhou City. As part of the celebrations, 300 people last Friday spent four hours cooking 4.19 tonnes of Yangzhou fried rice.

The fried rice, which is flavored with eggs, sea cucumber and other ingredients, reportedly broke the previous record, which had been held by Turkey.

The organizer of the event had said that the fried rice would be distributed to students of four schools.

'Arrow Catcher' snares another world record (http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=9052378)

What happens when a tennis ball is fired at nearly 193kmh?

The 'Arrow Catcher' breaks another Guinness world record.

Australia's highest record-holder Anthony Kelly added another title to his name when his superhuman reflexes set a new mark for 'fastest tennis ball caught'.

Appearing on Today to celebrate Guinness World Record Day, Kelly braved a cannon-like ball machine that shot out the missiles at 200kmh.

Standing 6m from then machine and only with a 0.106 of a second reaction time, Kelly, who is the holder of 40 world records, caught three of eight shots fired down at him, breaking the record with one flying at a speed of 192.9kmh.

The speed of the shots and Kelly's amazing hand-eye coordination drew gasps of astonishment from the Today studio.

"You can't even see it!" Host Karl Stefanovic exclaimed.

However, the record was without its dangers with Kelly forced to suffer a number of painful blows before nabbing the record ball.

Way to go, Anthony! The Coxons too!

Guinness World Record holder Anthony Kelly, of Armidale, wins spear-catching title Nov. 12, 2015, 9:30 p.m. (http://www.northerndailyleader.com.au/story/3489186/new-guinness-record-arrow-man-is-on-the-ball/)

LIGHTNING FAST: Armidale arrow-catcher Anthony Kelly proved his reflexes were quicker than most, breaking yet another record on Guinness World Record Day yesterday.

A HANDFUL of Aussies, including Armidale’s arrow-catching martial artist Anthony Kelly, have smashed their way into history on Guinness World Record Day.

Australia’s highest record-holder, Mr Kelly has added yet another string to his bow, breaking the record for the fastest tennis ball caught, at the lightning speed of 192.9km/h.

Often referred to as a ninja, Mr Kelly is renowned for his fast reflexes, in particular his ability to catch fast-moving items. He holds the world record for most arrows caught in two minutes, blindfolded.

Last year on Guinness World Record Day, Mr Kelly succeeded in his attempt to break the record for the most spears shot out of a spear gun and caught underwater in one minute.

After three attempts, where he caught eight from eight in two rounds, then 10 from 10, he smashed the world record by three.

Mr Kelly was just part of the global record-smashing attempt, along with fellow martial arts guru Glenn Coxon, who smashed his way through 338 wooden boards in one minute.

While he didn’t break his previous record of 359 boards, set in 2005, the Sydney area resident retains his record-holder status as he created the original record.

Record-breaking is in the family, as Mr Coxon’s daughter Summerly, 27, broke the record for the most wooden boards broken in one minute by a female. She broke a whopping 215, beating the record of 161 boards.

The feat was a personal triumph for the family, as just last year Mr Coxon was diagnosed with advanced and aggressive cancer in his neck and shoulder.

After surgery and radiation, he’s beaten the odds and is determined to give back to those who saved him from becoming another statistic, particularly the team from the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Hospital at RPA.

While these three record-breaking attempts were happening at Sydney Olympic Park yesterday, Perth-based HoopFit coach Bree Kirk-Burnnand attempted to set a new world record for most hula hoops spun simultaneously by an individual. The Guinness World Record is 162 hoops at one time and was only recently set.

A skateboard-riding dog in Peru aimed to pass through the longest human tunnel, and a Japanese man sabered as many champagne bottles as he could in 30 seconds. In the UK, the Poms attempted the largest gathering of people dressed as penguins, while the Chinese aimed to create the world’s largest lipstick sculpture.

The 2017 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS book and Gamer’s Edition are available in stores for a suggested retail price of $28.95 and $14.99 respectively.

Does Holly Holm deserve her own indie thread on the MMA forum? Probably, but I don't feel up to copying previous posts into one right now.

ARMIDALE'S BRUCE LEE: Anthony Kelly will attempt his next world record on Sunday. He plans to break the record for the most chopsticks to hit a target in a minute.

AS the sun rises Anthony Kelly finishes the first 50 push-ups and sit-ups of 200 he will complete that day, and every other day, for the next 200 days.

He has imposed the rigorous training in the lead up to the next Guinness World Record he plans to break, with the most chopsticks to hit a target blindfolded in one minute.

“Am I confident I’m going to break this record? Hell yeah,” Mr Kelly said.

His love of martial arts began more than 40 years ago and quickly became a Guinness World Record obsession, of which he now has more than 40 under his belt.

“I had a great passion for Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali and I really wanted to be as fast or as good as I could be, I’m the youngest of five brothers so living in the seventies was pretty full on,” he said.

“I was sick of getting the cane at school and getting bashed up at the bus stop so I thought there had to be a better way to live life than being a punching bag.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxPY5rL8yBg

Each record he plans to break takes significant physical and mental preparation.

“When I do it I’m so focused that I can hear flies flying around,” he said.

“I don’t meditate and lots of people expect that I sit around watching a mountain or something, my meditation is catching a ball travelling at 200km/h or doing something really deadly because it gets me in the zone.”

Mr Kelly lives on a diet of meat and potatoes and claims he hasn’t eaten fruit or vegetables in his life.

Unwilling to reveal the next record he plans to break, Mr Kelly said the ideas he has for the future are significantly dangerous.

“My motto is ‘physically, mentally, faster, stronger,’” he said.

“I know I’m only going to live once and so that’s why I do it, I want to try to get the most out of myself.

” I’ve got some really wild ideas of what I want to do but it’s pushing the human boundaries and I don’t want to die just yet.”

The record for most chopsticks caught sighted is also held by Mr Kelly.

The record attempt will be held on Sunday in his home and Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall will witness the proceedings.

Muhammed Mehsud’s Kung Fu skills make it to Guinness World Record (http://dailytimes.com.pk/sports/24-Feb-17/muhammed-mehsuds-kung-fu-skills-make-it-to-guinness-world-records)

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Muhammad Ifran Mehsud made it to the Guinness World Record (GWR) for his spectacular Kung Fu skills.

Pakistan and South Asia Wushu Federation President Malik Iftikhar commented, “His biggest achievement came for breaking five records consecutively in the year 2016.”

The Guinness World Records approved Mehsud’s record for ‘full knee striking using one leg is 87.’ The rest of his records include 31 pushups in a minture with one leg raised, carrying 40lb pack. The most knuckle pushups in one minute is 26, the most knuckle pushups on one leg raised carrying a 40-lb pack in one minute is 21, and the most pushups in which one leg is raised, carrying an 80-lb pack in one minute is 21. He achieved these records from July to October in 2016.

Mehsud, 26, is an MPhil student from Ladha, in the militancy-plagued South Waziristan tribal region.

“I was really stunned to know that a person from the tribal region and whose family has been displaced has emerged at the global arena,” he stated.

According to sources, Mehsud informed the media that his parents had to migrate to Dera Ismail Khanbecause of clashes between Pakistani security forces and militants.

Mehsud declared his achievement as a “Record Title Holder” as a life turning event. He said there are no limitations on a player to break the record on any given day. “My predecessor had maintained the record for one and a half year until I broke it in October,” he stated. Mehsud broke the record of another Pakistani too. Ahmad Amin Bodla was the record holder for making 79 strikes in one minute while Mehsud got 87 strikes in the same time. Bodla belongs to Punjab province of Pakistan.

The PSB policy is silent about the promotion of Kung Fu in the country which is very unfortunate for Mehsud.

Iftikhar stated, “The world was hearing about militancy and extremism only from the Pakistani tribal region but the emergence of Irfan Mehsud as a budding player clearly depicts that ‘the area has matchless talent but needs to be explored.” Iftikhar added, “I would personally leave no stone unturned to promote Mehsud because I have faced challenges boldly at a time when I was leading my life in displacement.”

Mehsud mentioned that currently he is getting daily exercise in a rented mud-built house yet he is determined to project the soft image of the country in the world. However, Mehsud informed the media that he plans to go abroad for advance training if the government supports him. “I’m leading a hard life with limited resources and have no support from the government,” he added. He hopes to be provided with ‘direly needed equipment and building’ so that he can take part in global competitions and bring achievements home.

Jayanth Reddy International Taekwondo Academy achieved the record for Largest Taekwondo display (multiple venues) back in 2014, with 979 participants taking part at venues across India.

This year the school's owner Jayanth wanted to create an even bigger and more spectacular event, by inviting his students to take part in the Largest Taekwondo display at a single venue.

Working with the Indian Martial Arts Academy Team, he managed to round up an incredible 1,152 martial arts students from all over India to take part in a mass performance at Saroor Nagar Outdoor Stadium in Hyderabad, India.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX2GshniW84

Many of the participants were young kids and everyone wore the traditional dobok/gi for the attempt.

In order to achieve the title, everyone had to perform the martial arts routine simultaneously for a minimum of ten minutes and to a reasonable standard.

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/Kids-taking-part-in-the-largest-Taekwondo-display_tcm25-463061.jpg

The participants successfully broke the previous record of 991 that was achieved by M.R Bobbili in India back in September 2016.

The event was organised by martial arts teacher Jayanth Reddy, who has been mastering his skills for 35 years and already has a number of Guinness World Records titles under his black belt.

He achieved the record for the Most full contact punch strikes in one minute (one hand) in July 2016, beating the previous record holder by 19 punches to set a new record of 352.

Back in 2012 he smashed the record for Round house kicks - most concrete blocks broken in one minute (male) with 34.

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/Jayanth-Reddy-attempting-round-house-kicks-world-record_tcm25-463063.jpg
Jayanth Reddy attempting the Guinness World Records title for round house kicks

"Martial arts has given a lot to me, and I want to give back in any way possible to increase its popularity. In the next three years, I wish to help another 10,000 Indians achieve world records. This will improve India's reputation in the world of martial arts, which is currently dominated by countries like China, Japan, Korea and Thailand," Jaynath told Times of India in 2015.

After helping 1,152 people get into the record books with for the largest Taekwondo display, Jayanth is on the way to achieving his goal.

There's more coming today...lots of new Guinness World Records for martial arts.

Mr Ye's attempt last Thursday was recorded on a video, released by Pear Video (https://www.pearvideo.com/video_1057067), on March 31.

The videos shows Mr Ye tying a rope which connects to seven Audi cars to his testicles. A group of supporters gathered around Mr Ye to cheer for him as the event took place in Zibo city.

As a highly focused Mr Ye channelled his might through his genitals, the seven vehicles - with a combined weight of 12.6 tonnes - slowly moved forward.

The moved for eight metres (26.2 foot) before coming to a full stop.

Mr Ye claimed that the stunt he performed is called Xi Sui Gong or Xi Sui Technique. He said that the stunt is a wellness regime practised by Taoists to improve their fertility.

The man is also said to have invented a hybrid school of martial art, known as Tai Chi Zen, after combining Tai Chi and and Taoism wellness regimes.

After successfully completing the challenge, Mr Ye told a reporter from Pear Video that he had been practising kung fu for around 30 years and that he had worked as the principal for three martial arts schools.

The other types of martial arts Mr Ye practises are Hung Kuen and Shaolin Kuen. The man also claims to know Thai boxing.

Dr Chen Yu,Department of Urology at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital told Apple Daily Taiwan in an interview: 'Xi Sui Gong' could help curing or prevent urinary incontinence as the exercise trains the pelvis and muscles around the thigh.'

Making and breaking records is an everyday affair for shifu (master) Shi Miao Jin (pictured below, in orange). Having already set 16 world records, shifu Jin recently set a new bar-and a Guinness world record-for 'the most full-contact knee strikes achieved in one minute with one leg': 97. However, what's even more surprising than his list of achievements is his birth name: Prabhakar Reddy.
One of only three Shaolin Temple warrior monks from India, the 36-year-old Reddy, who claims to have trained more than 60,000 people from around the world at his Nellore, Andhra Pradesh-based kung fu academy, starts his work day at 3.30 am. His students range from a 65-year-old martial arts enthusiast to his five-year-old son, and include women looking to learn basic self-defence as well as advanced practitioners from Thailand. As for his own inspiration, he says he grew up admiring the skills of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, and had already earned a kung fu black belt at 16. "My endeavour now is to propel India ahead on the global martial arts map," he says.

Aug. 18 (UPI) -- More than a thousand robots performed a choreographed dance routine together to set a world record in China.

The 1,069 "Dobi" robots, produced by WL Intelligent Technology Co. Ltd, completed the synchronized performance in Guangzhou, Guangdong, to claim the Guinness World Record for "Most robots dancing simultaneously."

A few of the robots accidentally toppled over during the performance and were deducted from the final total.

All of the robots were programmed via a singular group control system and are able to talk, do Tai Chi and perform several other actions in addition to dancing.

WL Intelligent Technology topped the record of 1,007 dancing robots, previously held by fellow Chinese company Ever Win Company & Ltd.

This is the incredible moment a Chinese man performed a stunt as he pulled a van with a string tied around waist.

The footage, captured on September 8, shows the man, believed to be a martial artist, walking on his hands while dragging a white minivan in south-west China.

The man walked on his hands for about 10 metres (32.8 feet) without falling.

The video flip is believed to be taken in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
A man in black can be seen tying a string around his waist before making a handstand in front of a white minivan.
The white van's doors are open, suggesting no passengers were inside the vehicle.

There were no passengers or drivers steering inside the van as the stunt was carried out

The van is said to weight about 1,000 kilogram (1.1 ton).
Soon the martial artist started to pull the minivan and walked forward.
The minivan moved and followed behind, demonstrating the man's strength to pull a heavy vehicle.

That`s how it all starts, lol. I know, right? We cannot teach Kung Fu to robots. That would lead to our complete undoing.

A Chinese tai chi master has set a world record for balancing the heaviest load on a human abdomen while hanging in the air.

Cai Mingyong, 42, successfully held a 90 kg weight on his stomach for ten seconds while lying across two raised pillars, Sohu reports.

"It is the first world record for a person carrying such a heavy load with his stomach," stated Zuzana Pavlonova, the certification officer from the London-based World Record Certification Agency (WRCA), who witnessed Cai's challenge in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province.

Cai, who has suffered from poor health since childhood, has been practicing tai chi for more than 20 years and created his own 'Tianxing Lie Gong' style, which means 'carrying weight on the abdomen while suspending one's body in the air'.

Cai said that "China has a history of more than 5,000 years and a rich culture. I have achieved something by digging only a little from it...We should really feel confident and proud of our culture," according to Caidian News, a local media outlet.

Tai chi, also known as shadow boxing, is traditionally an internal Chinese martial art featuring relatively slow movements, but is practiced more for its health benefits these days.

The WRCA is not affiliated with Guinness World Records in any way.

Chi Dehua has been a staff editor at GBTIMES since 2013. She covers foreign affairs, business and culture.

Taekwondo originated in Korea and the organisations wished to promote the sport and encourage peace between the neighbouring nations.

Both young and old attended the event. Their enjoyment and determination was evident, as only around 150 people out of the thousands participating were disqualified for not taking part in the display correctly within the record guidelines.

Lee Sang-min, the CEO of Brand & Company, commented: "Although the success of the Guinness World Records title has its own significance, Taekwondo – which was born in the divided country – gathered people in one place to realise that one spirit has contributed in birthing a new global, cultural sport."

"Taekwondo has played an important role in bringing South and North Korea together, with the symbol of peace for the future."

MARTIAL ARTS MASTER: Perpetual Guinness World Record holder Anthony Kelly has broken yet another world record for fastest tennis ball caught.

STARING down the barrel of a custom-made air gun, Anthony Kelly is a long-time member of one of the world’s most exclusive clubs.

With 50 Guinness World Records under his belt, Kelly just earned the title of World’s Fastest Tennis Ball Caught at 248 kilometres per hour.

Recently, he was best man at the wedding of his good mate Morris Zavatta – one of the greatest tightrope walkers in the world.

“I’ve been practicing the fastest tennis ball for two years, it’s extremely hard to do,” Kelly said.

“The speed of the balls travelling from the air cannon I had to get made in America myself is 0.08 seconds, we’re talking a thousand of a second.

“I have to really train my body to overcome the pain the balls inflict on my body.”

Kelly just learned he’ll be on the inside cover of the Guinness World Book of Records in 2019.

The 54-year-old shows no signs of slowing down. He lives on a diet of meat and potatoes, and reckons he’s never eaten a piece of fruit or a vegetable in his life.

“One of my techniques is opening and closing my hand in five seconds – I have a personal best of 85,” he said.

“That keeps my body super active, I think we can do anything if we set our mind to develop our bodies.”

Kelly has appeared on television shows worldwide; he’s been studied by scientists in Plymouth, England; and met the crew of Mythbusters.

“I have a few other records pushing on the limits of human endurance,” he said,

“I know I won’t do it forever but I certainly have two or three other records that will make people stand up and have a look at what people can achieve.”

Each record he plans to break takes significant physical and mental preparation.

“My motto is ‘physically, mentally, faster, stronger,’” he said in 2016.

“I know I’m only going to live once and so that’s why I do it, I want to try to get the most out of myself.

”I’ve got some really wild ideas of what I want to do, pushing human boundaries.”

Watch: Montrealer breaks world record for longest tai chi practice (https://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/watch-montreal-man-tries-for-tai-chi-marathon-record)
Doing anything for 36 consecutive hours is a lot, but that's especially the case with tai chi.

MONTREAL GAZETTE Updated: September 23, 2019

It started, as so many things do, with a Google search.

Samuel Michaud said he was doing “stupid research on the Internet” in his free time when he found the world record for longest tai chi practice.

Sheila Dickinson lasted 28 hours and 59 minutes in 2017.

The idea of trying for the record stuck in his head, and eventually he’d told enough people in his life that he couldn’t not do it.

All of which explains what the tai chi educator and long-time practitioner was trying to do in Montreal’s Victoria Square on Sept. 19 and 20: 36 hours of tai chi.

https://postmediamontrealgazette2.files.wordpress.com/2019/09/0921-city-taichi-1.jpg?quality=55&strip=all&w=579&zoom=2

He was also collecting donations for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

“I like the idea of doing something a little bit crazy,” he said as he closed in on that target, “and I wanted to see how I would react doing 36 hours of tai chi.”

He added: “I think that it’s great that in downtown Montreal, where there’s a lot of traffic, a lot of noise, for 36 hours — a day and a half — someone is doing slow movements in tune with nature.”

Yuzhen Palace, a group of Taoist palaces in Central China's Hubei province, has had all its foundations raised a record 15 meters and its buildings restored.

The central government started the work in 2011 to prevent the World Cultural Heritage site from being submerged by a nearby reservoir for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

The palace complex on Wudang Mountain in Shiyan, Hubei province, was built in 1412 by an emperor of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) for Zhang Sanfeng, a legendary Taoist who created tai chi. Its name Yuzhen means "encounter with the immortal".

To raise the foundation, workers used jacks to lift three stone gates weighing about 7,000 metric tons and build up the foundation beneath them, according to the publicity department of the Wudang economic zone.

The department said that it was the first time a building had ever been raised 15 meters for a restoration.

At its peak, Yuzhen Palace had 400 halls and pavilions covering 5,600 square meters. Now, however, just a few of the main halls remain, showcasing the well-preserved style of the early Ming Dynasty.

Workers had to dismantle the buildings and then restore them as close to their original state as possible on top of the new foundation. The total cost of the effort was about 200 million yuan ($28 million).

The work was designed by the country's South-to-North Water Transfer Project Office and National Cultural Heritage Administration for this diversion project's expansion.

In 2005, the central government planned to enlarge water storage capacity of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, the water source of the middle route of the diversion project. By 2013, its dam's top was raised from 162 to 176.6 meters, leading to a 66 percent increase in its water storage, according to local authorities.

The reservoir is one of the largest artificial freshwater lakes in Asia and provides water to areas of Henan and Hebei provinces as well as Beijing and Tianjin.

However, the expansion posed a submergence risk to surrounding areas within 300 square kilometers. So Yuzhen Palace, located about 1 kilometer from the water, needed to be saved from ruin.

By 2013, the dam and foundation raising projects were completed. In July this year, all the other buildings were restored, concluding the foundation project.

Cai Jianping, deputy head of the department of South-to-North Water Diversion Project Management with the Ministry of Water Resources, said that it should be celebrated that the work of Yuzhen Palace has passed technical checks, and it should be recognized as a historic moment for the palace that will help ensure its future.

A Chinese martial arts master has set a world record by blowing 52 candles with a traditional Chinese weapon within one minute, the Beijing News reported on Tuesday saying the feat has been published in the 2020 edition of the Guinness World Records.

The man furiously swung the weapon known as a nunchaku, hitting only the flames of the candles, putting them out without making contact with the candles themselves, as seen in a video the Beijing News posted on Sina Weibo.

The report also mentioned some other odd records, such as the longest distance an arrow shot using feet has traveled, the person who has most tattoos, and the world's longest handmade egg noodles.

Thai Chi master David Thew has had to give up on his world record after the videographer failed to upload the footage properly.

Tai Chi master David Thew has been forced to abandon his efforts to register his world record with the Guinness Book of Records after his videographer failed to deliver all of the footage of the attempt.

The 54-year-old Temuka man beat the world record for longest Tai Chi marathon at the Temuka Alpine Energy Stadium on April 27, 2019, overcoming dehydration and sleep deprivation to beat the standing record of 29 hours with 30 hours and 15 minutes and raise $2600 for the South Canterbury Cancer Society.

Thew said he had to withdraw his world record application after the man he paid $900 to film it did not produce the footage needed to prove his success to the Guinness Book of Records.

Thew knows "in my heart" he, alongside every supporter and well-wisher, beat the record.

Thew said after 10 months of the videographer not replying to calls, emails, or social media messages requesting the footage be uploaded, he managed to track him down - in Sussex, England.

He said the man at last added the footage to the application and Thew spent days combing through the files.

"What I found was about nine files were doubled up, about four hours were missing, and there was a one-minute discrepancy between one file and the next," Thew said.

"We can't delete any files, only add. We can't keep adding more files that are missing because it would be a total mess.

"I had to withdraw the application. There was nothing else I could do."

David Thew celebrates beating the world record for longest Tai Chi marathon at the Temuka Alpine Energy Stadium on April 27, 2018.

Thew knew "in my heart" he, alongside every supporter and well-wisher, beat the record.

"I always try and find a positive out of every situation. I think it's a good lesson of impermanence," he said.

"Everyone came together, taking shifts through the night and through the day, and just had fun and raised money for cancer.

"You can't put a price on that. Being part of that is worth more than any world record."

But he would not be aiming to beat it again. A Canadian man, Sam Michaud, had already beaten his attempt and was going through the application process - while the current record holder, British woman Sheila Dickinson, was training towards beating Michaud.

"I think I'll leave them to it. It's time to move on and do new things, new challenges, and help people help themselves," Thew said.

"I'll still be teaching and representing New Zealand on the world stage."

Thew has been practising Tai Chi for about 37 years and has won two gold and four silver medals across a number of World Kung Fu Championships.

HOHHOT, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The World Record Certification Agency (WRCA) has recognized a Tai Chi patterned crop field in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as the world's "largest crop field Tai Chi pattern."

The Tai Chi pattern is composed of wheat and rapeseed flowers, with a diameter of 1,301.13 meters and a total area of about 1.33 million square meters.

This landscape was created by Shiwei Farm in its manor on the right bank of the Ergune River, the Sino-Russian border river. The manor is a complex project of agriculture, culture and tourism.

In recent years, Shiwei Farm has been developing eco-tourism with the local ecological environment and folk culture.

Tian Yimin, an official of Shiwei Farm, said the certification of "the largest crop field Tai Chi pattern" will help increase the farm's popularity and turn it into a well-known tourist attraction.

THIS GUY IS KUNG-FU LIGHTING (http://www.sfltimes.com/news/this-guy-is-kung-fu-lighting)

Shanghai martial arts master Xie Desheng has claimed his fifth Guinness World Record, lighting 21 matches in one minute with a pair of nunchaku. Xie, 27, who describes himself as a follower of the legendary Bruce Lee, is a nunchaku specialist originally from Guangdong province in south China.

“Using nunchaku to set another Guinness World Record is an homage to my beginnings,” said Xie, who has been training with the martial-arts weapon for 11 years and now lives in Shanghai. Nanchaku—also known as nunchucks—consist of two hardwood sticks tied together with rope or chain.

His latest feat took place March 7 in Shanghai, and he received a certificate from Guinness’s London headquarters last month verifying it is a world record. His other feats to make “the big book” are two records in extinguishing candles with nunchuka (52 in a minute on June 26 2019, followed by 70 in a minute in December of that year); hitting the most table-tennis balls in a minute with a nunchuka (32, in December 2019); and for the fastest time to unscrew 10 bottle caps with a nunchaku (34.80 seconds in January of this year).

Xie said his latest feat was a long time in the making and was challenging both physically and mentally. “I was already training for it when I started practicing for the table tennis record in 2018,” he said. “I had already thought of setting a Guinness record for lighting matches back then, but I never told anyone because I knew how difficult it would be. The surface area of a match is much, much smaller than a ping pong ball. So, the toughest parts about this most recent challenge is firstly having to ensure the safety of my assistants, but then also lighting the actual match. The challenge is psychological because of the risk of injury.”

As for what inspired him to do the stunts, he points to a TV ad he saw in which a Bruce Lee impersonator performed the same feats—with the help of special effects.

“What was showing in the advert was not possible to achieve because it wasn’t real, so I decided to set these records using real kung fu, with no computer-generated imagery and no post-production trickery,” he said. “Everyone sees CGI these days, so it was important for me that viewers experienced the real thing. What you see on a screen may not be true, but what you experience in person is always true.”

His next goal is to set a Guinness World Record on the Great Wall of China, which he sees as the ultimate symbol of Chinese history and tradition. However, he’s keeping mum for now on details of the stunt.

By Greg Ellison

(Sept. 10, 2020) Grand Master Sunil Shakya, head instructor at Chesapeake Martial Arts in Ocean Pines, set a world record for longest tai chi performance last month after notching a comparable achievement earlier this summer.

“I am a multi-martial artist and master of 10 different styles of martial arts,” he said.

Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, Shakya, 43, relocated to the U.S. in 2008, three decades after beginning a lifelong study of traditional Asian forms of self-defense, including kung fu, wushu, taekwondo, tai chi, kickboxing, Krav Maga, jeet kune do, close-combat weapons, pankration and kenjutsu.

“I started teaching martial arts back in 2000 all over Nepal, India, Europe,” he said. “I came here for martial arts seminars in New Jersey.”

Although recent record-setting endeavors had to be judged remotely due to covid-19 considerations, on Aug. 21 Shakya qualified for the longest performance of tai chi in the High Range Book of World Records after hitting the two-hour mark.

“Actually, I wanted to go to Guinness World Records but the process was so long,” he said.

This was the second entry in the High Range Book of World Records for Shakya, who also made the pages after performing seven different styles of martial arts back to back on June 30.

Both feats were accomplished at Chesapeake Martial Arts with High Range officials viewing a live stream and nary a spectator, save for Shakya’s wife, Susmita Lama, and 7-year-old son, Syalwon.

“Just me and my family,” he said.

Although only a witness last month, Syalwon Shakya is following in his father’s discipline.

“He’s also a martial artist learning kung fu and taekwondo with me,” he said.

Since beginning martial arts instruction at age 4, Syalwon Shakya quickly excelled and more recently has begun echoing some of his father’s achievements, which have included stints competing, coaching and judging national, international and world championships.

“Last year in 2019, he got a lot of trophies,” he said. “This year we had planned to go to a championship in Virginia but they’re all cancelled, so maybe next year.”

While proud to speak about his son’s recent achievements, Shakya also took first place for taekwondo, kung fu and weapons competitions during the 2019 Mid Atlantic Martial Arts championship in Delaware.

The father and son also placed second in taekwondo team forms and took home a martial arts champion family award.

In lieu of in-person events, the Shakyas continued their winning traditions virtually in 2020.

“This year we did the team forms for an online championship,” he said. “We got first place.”

Sunil Shakya, who was certified by the World United Martial Arts Federation as an eighth-degree Black Belt in March, also took top honors for kung fu, taekwondo and tai chi during the World Martial Arts E-Championship this June.

“Every championship, fortunately at the age of 40-plus, I’m still winning,” he said.

Breaking a Guinness World Records title is often on peoples' bucket lists.

But one serial record breaker and black belt holder, Muhammad Rashid (Pakistan), doesn't want to stop at just one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxgo4wfCztM&feature=emb_logo

He’s currently working towards a slightly more ambitious goal.

“My target in future, I want to complete my 100 records.” - Muhammad Rashid

The martial arts expert from Karachi, Pakistan, holds over 30 records, almost a third of the way towards his goal.

Most of his records are smashing – quite literally.

They include:

most walnuts crushed by the hand in one minute (284)
most watermelons crushed with the head in 30 seconds (49)
most drinks cans crushed with the elbow in one minute (77)
most spins of a fire staff in one minute (188) – yes, he can spin as well as smash!

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/Muhammad-Rashid-crushing-drink-cans-with-his-elbow_tcm25-632437.jpg

As well as just using his fists and elbows as smashing instruments, he also holds many records using nunchaku and a Bo staff – both traditional martial arts weapons.

His record-breaking journey began in 2013, when he broke the record for the most bottle caps removed with the head in one minute (40) at the Punjab Youth Sports Festival, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

A year later, he went on Italian television show Lo Show Dei Record to break his own record, achieving 61.

Most bottle caps removed with the head in one minute

Seven years later, his record-breaking appetite has only grown.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/Most-bottle-caps-removed-with-the-head-in-one-minute_tcm25-632450.jpg

He’s already broken 14 records in 2020, including the fastest time to unscrew 10 bottle caps with a nunchaku, achieving a time of 17.82 seconds.

Not only has Muhammad broken records this year, but he also trained his daughter, Fatima Naseem, to break a record too!

She broke the record for the most full contact elbow strikes in one minute using alternate elbows (female) with an incredible 242 on 16 August 2020.

The feat is even more impressive as Fatima is only seven years old!

Muhammad doesn’t just train his daughter, however.

As the founder and president of the Pakistan Academy of Martial Arts, many of Muhammad’s students have gone on to become record holders under his training.

“I want my students proud to view me as a role model due to my Guinness World Records,” Muhammad said.

muhammad rashid leading martial arts class on the beach

His protégés include Syed Taj Muhammad (Pakistan), who holds the record for the most knuckle push ups in one hour (2,175), and Mujtaba Hassan Mughal (Pakistan) who holds the record for most walnuts smashed with a nunchaku in one minute (118).

With such as array of amazing records, Muhammad has secured himself the status of a record-breaking martial arts icon.

Who knows, maybe Fatima or one of Muhammad's students will follow in his ambitious footsteps and become a serial record breaker too! Giving Anthony Kelly a run for his titles?

The most coach qualifications (multiple sports) is 19, and was achieved by Anthony Kelly (Australia) in Armidale, Australia, on 19 April 2020.

Anthony had always been into sports growing up. He started with rugby union, cricket and basketball, then got into martial arts at the age of 15. He began training hard already with the aim of becoming a blackbelt. After achieving it in Taekwondo, he had a passion for more and started to train in more and more styles.

This is what got eventually got him into the world of record breaking as Anthony made his first record attempt on television on El Show de los Récords in 2001 for records around arrow catching. Becoming a record breaking marked a real turning point in Anthony's career as now, renowned martial arts trainers from around the world were asking him just how he trained his reflexes to be able to catch flying arrows.

This lead Anthony to develop his training program based on his specific training exercises which he called "Reaction Training". He trained many athletes of different sports.

As he progressed as a trainer, Anthony became more curious about how these athletes were mastering their sports and had a desire to learn more from them, so he decided to study and subsequently master more martial arts and some different sports and earned more coaching qualifications.

To date, Anthony has 21 blackbelts and has completed over 70 coaching courses. He also has at least another 10 coaching courses he plans on completing to add to his current record of qualifications.

The most important piece of advice Anthony had to share was “learning and practice is the key to being the best you can be”.

Chinese nunchaku master swings high to hit world records (http://global.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202006/19/WS5eebfd9ca310834817254106.html)

Xie Desheng, a Shanghai-based freelance nunchaku instructor, wins three Guinness World Records for his stunt performances.[Photo provided to China Daily]

Driven by his fascination with martial arts legend Bruce Lee and nunchaku, Xie Desheng has gone on to win not just one but three Guinness World Records.

The nunchaku practitioner from Guangdong province earned his first world record in June last year when he extinguished 52 candles in a minute using the weapon.

His second was earned in April this year when he hit 32 ping-pong balls in one minute.

The 28-year-old followed up on that feat by winning another title the same month, unscrewing 10 bottle caps with a nunchaku in 34.8 seconds.

Xie may have been a nunchaku practitioner for a decade, but he does not simply enter these competitions without preparation. In fact, he says he trains for almost a year just to prepare for each Guinness World Record attempt.

Xie, who is currently a Shanghai-based freelance nunchaku instructor, first learned about this form of martial arts when he was a restaurant waiter in Dongguan, Guangdong province, in 2009.

"I love watching martial artist and actor Bruce Lee's nunchaku scenes in movies. Once, when watching one of my colleagues use the nunchaku, I was impressed by the neat movements and thought that it could be a self-defense skill," says Xie.

Since that moment, Xie has spent most of his spare time scouring web for instructional materials. He has even traveled to Hunan, Hubei and Henan provinces to attend classes and engage with beginners and experts. During his time in these provinces, he stayed financially afloat by taking on part-time jobs.

"But life was less beautiful than I had imagined it to be. Constantly practicing the nunchaku made me too exhausted to work. With a rather unstable source of income, I basically depended on my limited personal savings," he says."But I didn't want to give up."

Xie says that he draws motivation from his nunchaku, which have been with him through the ups and downs in life. He shares that his father died when he was 15 years old and his mother later abandoned him.

"A child who grows up in an environment like mine might become cold-hearted and self-abased when he enters adulthood and may embark on the road of doing bad things.

"But when I wield my nunchaku, I know I have dreams and the desire to change my fate. I feel confident and driven."

His persistence in the face of adversity eventually paid off.

In 2016, Xie took part in the 14th Hong Kong Wushu International Championship and was crowned the champion from among 500 nunchaku contestants. He went on to win competitions in Taiwan and Macao that year.

In 2018, he was awarded the gold prize at the 4th Malaysia International Wushu Tournament.

These days, Xie earns a living by conducting short-term training courses in Shanghai every year. He has coached over 5,000 people since moving to the city in 2016. Xie also regularly updates his public account on Chinese social media app WeChat on which he shares tips and information about nunchaku.

Zeng Shaoyu is one of the keen followers of Xie's public account on WeChat. Although he lives in Jiangxi province, around 700 kilometers from Shanghai, Zeng has no qualms taking the train to Shanghai to attend classes.

"He is a caring yet strict teacher who strives for perfection. He gives the most detailed instructions of movements to every student patiently and explains the theories vividly. I have never missed a class," Zeng says.

Xie says he aspires to spread nunchaku culture to more countries.

"Bruce Lee is my idol. If possible, I hope to become an actor," he says.

In a yoga gym in Songjiang District, a row of bottles is lined up on a table. Pairs of them are balanced on their lips, with a playing card in between.

Martial arts coach Xie Desheng is warming up at the table, with a nunchaku in his hands. He is about to challenge the Guinness World Record for removing the most cards with a nunchaku in one minute without toppling the bottles.

He set a record last August by removing 14 cards. In February, Pakistani Muhammad Rashid superseded that feat with 19 cards removed.

Nunchaku, which originated on the Japanese island of Okinawa, is a martial arts weapon that consists of two sticks linked together at one end by a short chain or cord. The weapon was popularized by Bruce Lee in kung fu movies.

“Lee is my hero,” Xie says. “In fact, he is my virtual nunchaku mentor.”

The timer starts. Xie holds a nunchaku in his right hand and waves it rapidly toward the cards. A counter calls out the number of cards removed without toppling the carefully balanced bottles. The scene is tense because the stick at any moment might hit a bottle. If that happens, Xie has to start all over again.

Eventually, he manages to hit 20 cards in a minute without breaking a bottle.

“New record!” Xie shouts out in excitement.

Xie hits playing cards clamped between bottles with a nunchaku to set a new world record.

He will send the video to Guinness and expects to get a certificate in months.

Nunchaku, sometimes called “chuka sticks” or “karate sticks,” was originally a weapon of self-defense. It has now evolved into a sport of stunts — using the device to hit ping pong balls volleyed by a robot, to remove bottle caps, to snuff out candles and to smash walnuts, always in a prescribed time, usually one minute.

The device has spawned nunchaku sports clubs across the world, though its use is restricted in Norway, Canada, Spain, Chile and several other countries.

Born in the city of Chaozhou of the southern province of Guangdong in 1992, Xie left his hometown at 15 after his father died and mother left home. He didn’t want to burden his uncle by staying with him, so he went to bigger cities in the province looking for work.

He took jobs in factories and restaurants, but his life trajectory changed when a roommate introduced him to nunchaku. Xie’s interest was aroused.

After work, he often went to Internet bars to watch Lee’s movies, especially excerpts with nunchaku maneuvers. Then he would practice the moves from a video at home. As there was no explanation of the moves, Xie could only watch closely and duplicate his idol’s movements — again and again.

“The beginning was really tough,” he says. “I don’t remember how many times I hurt my head with nunchaku while training, and there were bruises all over my body.”

He went to gyms to improve the strength and tried to use nunchaku to do other weapons’ stunts.

“I believe that different types of martial arts communicate with each other well,” he says. “For example, I could do the movements of a cudgel with a nunchaku and vice versa. Practicing on one improves the other.”

It was obvious that Xie had a gift for it. Before long, his friends recommended he take part in various martial arts competitions. He went to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Malaysia, winning several trophies, mostly on nunchaku.

The victories brought about dramatic changes in his life. He became a minor Internet celebrity and a martial arts coach. He travels around China, teaching in various places, and does training sessions for the Shanghai armed police.

Invitations to variety shows came with the fame. He remembers the first show where he appeared, called “Let Dream Fly.” It aired on a channel in the eastern province of Shandong Province several years ago. He admits he was nervous.

“For one thing, my hometown could receive the channel, so all my acquaintances there could see me on TV,” he says. “And for another thing, what I was going to do was very challenging, even dangerous.”

It was a William Tell sort of challenge, using a nunchaku instead of a crossbow to remove an apple from the head of a volunteer. It was difficult to find any people who were willing to rehearse the stunt with him, for obvious reasons.

“I was also worried that someone might try to imitate what I did on the stage,” he admits, with a laugh.

More show invitations and competitions followed. Xie felt stuck. The trophies no longer brought gratification. He was puzzled about how he could further challenge himself.

The Guinness World Records provided that challenge.

“You know, nowadays most martial arts competitions are judged by your movements rather than how well you can fight,” he says. “Most of the time you don’t even know which move you made to win a trophy. But the Guinness records are different. You can track your improvement through very straightforward numbers. It gave me very clear goals that I could challenge.”

His first record was set in Shanghai when he managed to snuff out flames on 52 candles with nunchaku in a minute, without knocking down the candles.

Then he learned a table tennis stunt with nunchaku, just like his idol Bruce Lee once did. He set a record for the most balls hit, with 35 in one minute.

Xie poses with one of his Guinness World Record certificate.

“That was probably one of the most difficult challenges for me,” he says. “The sticks are thinner than a table tennis ball, and it feels much less solid waving a nunchaku than a ping pong paddle. After long practice, the motions became a kind of muscle memory.”

Not all challenges have ended in success. Last year in Beijing, Xie tried to open 10 beer bottles with nunchaku but failed.

The disappointing performance came in front of a large audience and local journalists.

“They asked me: ‘Will you be back again?’ And I said: ‘I’ll get up where I fell over,’” Xie says.

“A month later, I went back to Beijing and finished the challenge.”

Jan. 12 (UPI) -- An Ontario martial artist broke her second Guinness World Record by teaming up with a student to perform 178 kicks in 60 seconds.

Silvana Shamuon, 28, who previously set a Guinness record by kicking footballs off of people's heads in 2016, teamed up with student Hannah Wright, 15, to take on the record for most martial arts kicks by a pair in 1 minute (female).

Shamuon, an instructor at Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts in Waterloo and Hotshot Athletic in Cambridge, alternated kicks with Wright and the pair finished with a total 178, beating the previous record of 144.

"I'm always looking at Guinness for ideas, and I saw that one and was like 'Hmm, I think I could do this with Hannah.' It was honestly just the luck of the search," Shamuon told The Record newspaper. "Words cannot express the amount of pride that I felt for Hannah. For a teenager, she was amazing the entire way." Congrats Silvana Shamuon and Hannah Wright!

India is home to several Guinness World Records, and there is now the latest inclusion to this list. Recently, a man from Karnataka's Mudur bagged the world record title for smashing the maximum number of coconuts on heads with a nunchaku in a minute. The bizarre world record has stunned people and may have the same effect on you.
Guinness World Records shared the video on Twitter with the caption, "New record: Most coconuts on heads smashed with a nunchaku in one minute - 42 by KV Saidalavi (India). He starts slow, but once he gets going there is no stopping." The video shows KV Saidalavi smashing coconuts kept on the heads of several volunteers with nunchaku. The text insert on the screen reveals that the coconuts used in the world record attempt were distributed for eating, and some pieces were used to make coconut oil.
According to a blog by Guinness World Records, Saidalavi practices the Kalaripayattu martial art and trains for two hours every day.

Thousands of Thai army cadets, university students and a handful of volunteers performed a record-breaking Muay Thai "wai khru" ceremony on Monday, all under the watchful eyes of six massive statues of former kings.

The sunset gathering in Hua Hin, part of a Muay Thai Festival in the seaside resort town, broke the previous Guinness World Record of 250 by having 3,660 participants simultaneously performing the traditional pre-match dance of respect for their coach.

The sun had baked the sheets of concrete hot as the barefoot performers -- organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Royal Thai Army, and the culture and sport ministries -- filed onto the parade ground at Rajabhakti Park in front of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha.

Dressed in red uniforms with white Mongkhon headbands, as well as white Muay Kard Chuek ropes -- the hemp wrappings fighters wore before gloves -- the phalanx of men moved in near perfect unison to the directions of famed Muay Thai fighter Sombat "Buakaw" Banchamek.

"Congratulations, you're officially amazing," said the official Guinness adjudicator, confirming the record had been broken.

"I feel really proud," said 27-year-old performer Phukrit Purimchaithanat, adding he and his fellow-cadets were glad they had pulled it off after months of preparations.

A mix of bemused locals and tourists passing through the popular resort watched the spectacle from a few rickety metal bleachers, gathering around the sides of the fenced area as a loudspeaker blared.

"It's stunning, it's crazy, also in front of the kings and everything," said Hua Hin resident Siena Cruz, 32, as she enjoyed the show with friends.

"The visual is something connected to the tradition," she said, noting how integral the pre-match ritual was to the sport.

"To be part of another bit of history for Thailand, it's bragging rights," she said of the Guinness record.

"I like to watch, but boxing is scary," said June Rubyung, who had taken her grandson to watch the performance.

"I think they're good," she said, "they do it the correct way."

Fitness fan inspired by kung fu movies to smash finger push ups record (https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2023/4/fitness-fan-inspired-by-kung-fu-movies-to-smash-finger-push-ups-record-742584?fbclid=paaaatzjjxltbyrm8ptmwrbnzxurakhn3ya8 wahfsq0ptpkmkieqgeeapuy5u)

A student inspired by his love of kung fu movies pushed himself to new limits to smash a push ups record.

Zhang Yuxuan (China) is now the proud holder of the Guinness World Records title for most four finger push ups (two arms) with claps in one minute, with a massive 22.

The 21-year-old,who is studying at Shaanxi Aviation Vocational and Technical College, set his sights on a challenge just like this one at a young age.

While his love for kung fu movies was strong, Zhang struggled with his physical fitness and used traditional Chinese medicine in the hope of building up his strength.

At the age of 13, he decided to take matters into his own hands and began training with weights at home and doing push ups, slowly building up both his strength and his confidence.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/zhang-yu-xuan-doing-two-fingers-hand-stand_tcm25-742588.jpeg

In his second year of junior high school, he started to attempt the finger push ups he'd seen in kung fu movies, soon managing to do 10 of them in a row.

Zhang said: "I trained myself by watching reference videos and materials online. Soon, I realized that no one seemed to have demonstrated finger push ups while clapping at the same time. This stimulated my desire for the challenge.

"When I was a child, I watched the TV programme Guinness China Night, so I thought a Guinness World Records title should be my goal."

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/zhang-yu-xuan-doing-one-finger-push-ups_tcm25-742589.jpeg

Although he had planted the seed of the challenge in his heart, Zhang didn't know where to start.

"At that time, I was in high school. When everyone talked about their dreams, I would always say that I wanted to challenge the Guinness World Records title, but my classmates would always laugh at me, saying I was bragging," he said.

It wasn't until March 2022 that Zhang met Zhang Shuang, another Guinness World Records title holder, through social media. Zhang Shuang is a sports blogger who obtained a title for the most consecutive handstand skips, and was kind enough to guide Zhang through the process of getting a GWR title.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/front-image-of-zhang-yu-xuan-practicing-two-fingers-push-up_tcm25-742590.jpeg

Now Zhang is hoping to inspire others to find their own confidence through exercise.

He said: "I recommend everyone to persist in physical exercise. Do not underestimate basic training. Gradually and properly, push ups can be done from a few minutes to one hour. People who enjoy figuring things out can try finger push ups, which also involve the application of physics and pressure knowledge."

Achieving his dream made Zhang feel particularly happy, and he immediately wanted to share it with everyone, especially his grandmother.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/Images/zhang-yu-xuan-holding-gwr-certificate_tcm25-742591.jpeg

He said: "My grandmother is the most important person in my life. When no one supported me, only she encouraged me. My grandmother is an ordinary farmer, but she taught me many truths. If it weren't for her support, I wouldn't have achieved this honour.

"I started dreaming of breaking world records when I was in 8th grade, and it took me seven years to finally achieve it. I remember a saying: Dreams should still be pursued, in case they come true one day. This has been proven true for me."

Zhang already has big plans to break more records.

"I think I have the ability to challenge records for 1-hour push ups, 3-hour plank, fingertip push ups with weights, handstand walking, and sit ups. Next, I will prepare for these record applications and train seriously, so please look forward to it!" Those are some crazy single finger moves...

World's oldest female ninja: Virginia Lenore MacColl's favourite moves include swinging on rings and climbing ropes.

Virginia Lenore MacColl started ninja warrior competitions at 66.

New Delhi: In the most recent Guinness World Records (GWR) roundup, a 71-year-old woman from the United States was recognised as the oldest female ninja, proving the adage 'Age is just a number' to be completely true. The organisation also released a video showing her navigating obstacle courses filled with a variety of challenges. In the video, she can be seen climbing, jumping, and even swinging from a bar.
"Oldest competitive ninja athlete (female). Competed at the age of 70 years and 90 days," Guinness World Records said in a video post on Instagram. According to the organisation's blog, Virginia Lenore MacColl began her journey into ninja warrior competitions at the age of 66, inspired by her daughter's encouragement to take up sports.

MacColl added that she was motivated to start her journey after watching her daughter, Jessie Graff, participate in American Ninja Warrior.

Ms MacColl said, "While I cheered for my daughter Jessie Graff, I found inspiration in her strength, grace, and health."

Earlier, she had never participated in athletics or weightlifting. She also mentioned that it took her a while to even consider herself an athlete. However, the 71-year-old found herself committing to four cardio, strength training, and obstacle training sessions each week.

"I engage in cardio through swimming two to three times a week," she said.

Her favourite ninja moves include swinging on rings and climbing ropes, while she considers the salmon ladder and the warped wall to be some of the trickier techniques.

Speaking about her husband, she said he was her "biggest supporter." MacColl further mentioned, "Despite being unable to travel for medical reasons, he consistently encourages me to participate in every competition."

Regarding her exercise routine, she explained that her primary dietary choice is a 'Mediterranean diet,' consisting primarily of fish, and vegetables, along with some chicken and turkey. However, she avoids dairy products and soda, and carefully monitors her sugar intake to keep it in check.

A 104-year-old woman has died a little more than a week after she potentially broke the world record for the oldest skydiver.

Dorothy Hoffner jumped 13,500 feet from a plane with Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, Ill., on Oct. 1. She likely died in her sleep Monday at Brookdale Senior Living, the center said.

"The associates at Brookdale Lake View are deeply saddened by the passing of our resident, Dorothy Hoffner," the statement said. " We were thrilled to see her continue to live with passion and purpose, skydiving earlier this month at 104 and ultimately proving that age is just a number. She will be greatly missed by our entire community."

Guinness World Records is still working to confirm if Hoffner broke the record for the oldest person to jump from a plane. The current record belongs to Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson of Sweden, who was 103 when she made a jump in 2022, The Associated Press reported.

Hoffner made her first jump at the age of 100.

A memorial service for her will be held next month, the AP said.
