Regardless of your position on the status of Taiwan vis a vis the mainland it's a simple truth that most people, in Taiwan, support at least a close relationship with Beijing as a friendly and co-operative Taiwan is less likely to get invaded. Chen Shui Bian set back Taiwan / Mainland relations by a decade after he entered office.
And now he's going down for graft. Charges that would have been filed in 2006 if not for presidential immunity.
