Yes, merry christmas. At our house, we're having the biggest back bacon you've ever seen, except we call it a ham.:p

Here Ham comes in Packets. Different thing really. Jelly/Jello, chips/fries, chips/crisps etc. Go figure.

Its the "Ham around the world" thread.

Originally it was called "Hams across America" but we decided to include all of our tributaries as well, which I think is very magnanimous of us Americans, I must say.

I'm off to Midnight Mass now, so Merry Xmas to you all, wherever you are, whether you eat ham, whether you even know what an oatcake is, whether you know who let the dogs out, why it always rains on me, where are all the good times, or the answer to any other musically orientated question.

Black or white, rich or poor, cat lover or cat eater (or squirrel f*cker-GDA!), CMA or BJJ, ham or back bacon, I say:

MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL

Likewise Sifu Lamar!
Being a faith brother I never lose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. Although I'm one of the few people who goes to church all year round but tends to skip Christmas & sometimes Easter too. I just hope that some of the C&E's (People who only visit church during Christmas & Easter) actually learn that there is more to the season & the whole thing than just being seen there.

That said, merry Christmas & God Bless ya's all!

Just wanted to get in first and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. The reason why I am doing this so early is that I am flying over to Washington DC in a few days so probably won't have much time to post before then. I was also wondering if there was anyone in the vicinity who might be interested in hooking up. PM me if you are.

God you Yanks are so politically correct! Just call it Xmas and be done with it :D

Seriously though, I don't know what it is like over there, but here it has a more secular feel than a religious feel, so everyone just treats it as a time to spend with family.

Either way, everyone have a good one.

Whatever you believe in, whatever you do, may you enjoy the next week or so and be healthy and happy. Spend time with your families and friends if you can.

Try to spend this week with one aim in mind: Try to increase your compassion tenfold and decrease your greed by the same amount. Wouldn't it be great if all of us did that!?

Peace all.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas;
Let your heart be light.
From now on, your troubles will be out of sight.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas;
Make the Yule-tide gay.
From now on, your troubles will be miles away.
Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow.
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Merry Christmas all.

This is a day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Whether you think of him as God or Prophet or shaman, he was a gift to this Earth that came from humble beginings to break down bariers, heal and bring love and compassion to his people and to the world.

Lets honor him by showing the same self sacrifice, love and compassion, not on Christmass, but as a daily and even hourly goal to better our world and bring happiness upon ourselves.

i'm up before anyone else. it's wierd cause i'm usually half asleep with a cup of coffe as people start opening their presents, but today i was up a little before 8.

i might be trying to get the most out of the day though as ill be in the hospital again before the end of it. i started breaking out again 2 days ago, but luckily it has spread slowly enough that i was able to hold out and not miss christmas morning with my daughter. if there aren't any new erruptions i might even be able to make it until tomorrow when there will actually be more than one doctor at the hospital. double hopefully they'll be able to give me at least some remote idea what the hell is wrong with me by next week.

Nothing beats waking up at 6:30 in the morning on Boxing day and realizing that you are still drunk! Fortunately I'm sober now (especially fortunate since I'm at work now). :)

I invented a drinking game last night. You put on the extended version of Return of the King; the rules are simple.

Every time a main character (Gandalf, Pippin, Merry, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Faramir, Eomer, Eowyn, Theoden, Frodo, Sam) kills an orc or a human take a small drink.

Every time a main character mentions the ring directly take a small drink. Every time Gollum mentions the precious take a slightly larger drink.

Every time a main character kills a non-unique monster other than an orc (Troll, Mumak, etc.) take a large drink.

Every time a unique monster or main villain (The Witch King, Sauron, Saruman, the Orc Cheiftan at the Battle at Pellanor Fields, etc.) is killed take a large drink.

Every time a main character gives an inspired speech before heading out into danger or battle have a large drink.

Every time a main character dies take a large drink to honor their valour. ;)

Every time a main character survives mortal wounds just long enough to say something profound or personal take an extra large drink.

Finally, every time Peter Jackson significantly diverges from the plot of the book for no good reason take a very very large drink to ease the pain. ;) :P

ah yes, i should be complyaing about me conditions as usual, but this time i pass on a cool email i get, ok? ok?
here go

"In the spirit of political correctness, we offer this 'holiday' newsletter.
We don't want to offend any of you rich Jews by calling it a Christmas
newsletter. Even though it's way past Chamikah. I don't know when the
**** Kwanza is, so that might be over, too. And I don't know what ****ing
holidays those filthy Muslims practice other than making every day July
Fourth by running around like **** covered human firecrackers. In my

over that skinny ***** Jesus, or any of those crazy cab driver religions.
It's tough being politically correct. I don't know how you folks do it."

MoreMisfortune
12-26-2004, 07:40 PM
and it came with a poem

"-------------------------------------------------------------
Twas the Night Before Christmas, at T-Shirt Hell
-------------------------------------------------------------

Twas the night before Christmas, and back at my mansion;
My dog was balls deep, in young Scarlett Johansson

Three teenage runaways all chained to my bed,
Two sucked my tits, while the last gave me head;
The handcuffs were chafing, their collars on tight,
I warmed up the cattle prod for a long night.

A call from security disrupted my screwing;
An alarm had gone off, and some trouble was brewing.
I went to my monitor, scanned the estate.
The intruder was visible on camera eight.

A fat load of crap in a fuzzy red suit,
In a queer little sleigh with his bag full of loot.
Eight tiny reindeer the color of fawn;
This would be the last year they would **** on my lawn.

The hookers and runaways would just have to wait,
While I did what I did to protect my estate.
When I got to my parlor I saw Santa there;
My bodyguards had him strapped down to a chair.

They had beat him severely, they couldn't avoid it.
And Santa they said, well he rather enjoyed it.
"I came for your help," he told me with a tear;
"You're the only one who can save Christmas this year."

"We are so much alike, I know that much is true;
Since you also spread joy; just as much as I do.
I give everyone presents I don't ask to get paid
Is it so much to ask that I want to get laid?"

"A blumpkin! a donkey punch! the old Cleveland steamer!
Mrs. Claus is too old, and she won't let me ream her!"
I sympathized with the old guy this was true;
But there were some things (and some guys) that I just wouldn't do.

"I'll help the old dude" said a voice from behind me,
He looked over my shoulder and said, "Thank-you kindly!"
So, who would I thank for last minute salvation?
Why young Scarlett Johansson (from Lost in Translation)

Santa was thrilled and he did a quick dance
With a gleam in his eye and a tent in his pants.
She dropped to her knees and she spit on her hand,
As she undid his belt something happened, unplanned.

At the touch of her fingers he moaned and he ****ed;
And Santa was finished before he had started.
And Scarlett was literally covered in goo;
Like a young blade of grass in the fresh morning dew.

But more like a birthday cake covered in frosting;
Poor Santa collapsed the whole thing quite exhausting.
Scarlett licked her full lips and she said, "it's quite chalky."
"It's lucky for you that I'm into bukkake."

Well, Santa got up and he brushed off his suit,
As she licked the last drops of his seed off his boot.
Then Santa said, "Sorry, I guess one thing's clear:
It's that Santa should come more than one time a year."

But I heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sight,
Merry Christmas to all, and buy a gift certificate at
www.tshirthell.com, tonight.

(Special thanks to Scarlett Johansson for agreeing to be in this
poem in return for promotional consideration.)"

Finally, every time Peter Jackson significantly diverges from the plot of the book for no good reason take a very very large drink to ease the pain. ;) :P Every time Elrond says something, you have to end it with "Mr. Anderson..."

Every time someone gets up to go to the bathroom, everyone shouts "You! Shall! Not! Pass!"

With the holidays coming, here's a fruitcake recipe that will help
take the stress out of this normally stressful time:

Ingredients:
> 1 cup water
> 1 cup sugar
> 4 large eggs
> 2 cups dried fruit
> 1 tsp salt
> 1 cup brown sugar
> 3 oz lemon juice
> 1 cup nuts
> 1 gallon Bajan Rum

First, sample the rum to check for freshness.
Take a large bowl.
Check the rum again to be sure it is of the highest quality.
You know we can not trust those Bajans.
Pour 1 level cup of the rum and drink it. Repeat.Repeat again.

Turn on the electric mixer; beat 1 cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
Add water, eggs and 1 tsp sugar and beat again.
Make surr the rum is still OK.
Cry another tup.
Turn off mixers.
Chuck in the cup of dried fruit or something.
Mix on the turner.
If the fried druit gets struck on the beaterers, pry it loose
with a drewsciver.
Sample the rum to check for tonsistancity.
Next, sniff two cups of salt. Or something.
Check the rum.
Now sniff the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one tablespoon of sugar or whatever.
Grease the oven.
Turn the cake tin 350 degrees.

Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Whip the bowl out the window.
Check the rum again.
Go to bed.

mmmmm... fruitcake.

In the late 80's, I was invited by my American professor for X'mas dinner.

It was expensive for me to fly back to Taiwan.

X'mas is supposed to be with family and exchange of gifts or cards.

I mailed cards to my friends in Taiwan, US, Japan and Europe.

So the dinner was prepared for. I asked if I can bring something. The professor said maybe a desert.

Hmm.

So I smashed some cooked Pumkin and mixed with the glutinous rice powder or Nuo Mi Fun. I used a paper cup to stamp them into shapes. I then steamed them with boiling water.

They tasted a little bit sweet and some pumkin flavor.

I really like to steam a lot. The meat and veggie still preserve the textures and orignial flavors. You may also stir fry but there is cooking oil, margirine or butter involved.

Ever since the microwave oven is available, I modified a bit.

So at one time, it was my turn to cook X'mas dinner and host other graduate students from Taiwan and China.

I made drunken chicken, roasted chicken, 3 cups chicken, by requests. These are not available in restaurant.

I made the steamed fish with microwave. Everyone was suprised. Sea food is easily cooked such as shrimp, lobster, crab etc.

Yes. microwave really "revolutionized" traditional way of cooking.

Do people in china put up christmas trees..Or is that strictly a certian culture....how about christmas lights??????

Christmas trees were a purely German tradition.

In Britain, the Christmas tree was introduced by King George III's German Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz but did not spread much beyond the royal family. Queen Victoria as a child was familiar with the custom. In her journal for Christmas Eve 1832, the delighted 13-year-old princess wrote: "After dinner...we then went into the drawing-room near the dining-room...There were two large round tables on which were placed two trees hung with lights and sugar ornaments. All the presents being placed round the trees...". After her marriage to her German cousin, Prince Albert, the custom became even more widespread.

Well, it`s Christmas Eve and I just got back from making the rounds to a bunch of our friends` (and thier friends`) houses. I found out lthe secret to having an AMAZING Christmas last year, and it worked this year too.

Last year our Church tapped me to be Santa for the kids at the Christmas party. It was a blast , and before I returned the suit I also visited my wife`s friends who have little kids. It was so great that I ordered my own suit the very next week and decided to do it every year.

If you ever have the chance to play Santa for a kid, DO IT!! I can`t tell you how great it is to see the kids faces light up when you show up at thier house. Once in a while the littlest ones are kind of scared of the big guy in the red suit....but most of the time it`s all hugs, pictures, and cookies. This year one 5yr old girl gave me a 10% off coupon for a toy store she cut out of the newspaper because she said it must cost Santa alot of money to buy the toys for all the good boys and girls. How cute is that?
Anyway, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Now if you`ll excuse me, I`m gonna see if the Mrs. wants to take a ride on Santa`s magic lap.

I would like to take this time to say thank you to all of you. The short time I've been studying WC and have been on this forum you have all given me something to think about in my pursuits in the art of WCK and general MAs.
Of all the arts I have studied, dabbled and looked into, this is the one that has been the most frustrating in the sense that once I achieve a competency, I find a deficiency. There's always something to work on, some area to improve it seems.

Question, Santa is built more like a grappler and Jesus looks to be more suited for "The Chun." Who do you think would... oh never mind. It's Christmas for Pete's sake.

I know that Santa seems harmless but if you think about it he has the characteristics of a pagan idol (who is replacing God in Christmas). And I thought worship of false idols was wrong :rolleyes:

1) He's magical. For example: he flies through the air, can visit every home in one night, can get into and out of your house, has room in his sleigh for presents for everyone, etc.

2) He knows who's been good and bad. And he will reward accordingly. So God does not judge you anymore....Santa does.

3) He teaches materialism. It's all about "what am I going to get this Christmas."

4) He represents happiness through gift receiving and a type of father figure. He's jolly, etc.

"5yr old girl gave me a 10% off coupon for a toy store..."

Now if that doesn't say it all. I don't think Catholics should have anything to do with santa at Christmas. No offense but I don't see other religions diverting their childrens attention from God. Why do Catholics do it?

he flies

he wears a red suit so as that the blood doesnt stain his clothes

he lives in a grotto (read: lair) in a place that is utterly inhospitable

if your kids start going around the house looking for him STOP THEM

there is a reason no one has seen him and that is that he doesnt leave anyone alive

we know what he looks like purely because he took a polaroid of himself in yhour bed, shower etc just because he could

i suggest that every year you advise your family to duck for no reason whatsoever on christmas eve

Not that I care, because I have way more interest in my culture (typical British mix of Celtic and Anglo-Saxon) than in Christianity, but you might be interested in this. (http://http://www.gotquestions.org/Christmas-traditions.html)
I know that Santa seems harmless but if you think about it he has the characteristics of a pagan idol (who is replacing God in Christmas). And I thought worship of false idols was wrong :rolleyes:Of course you know Christmas was banned in the early American settlements? The whole thing is a pagan festival through and through, and Jesus was born in September, as attested to by various Orthodox churches, so I take it you don't celebrate Christmas at all, not even by going to church?

Any way you want to cut it up, Saint Niklaus was a Christian, and a good role model, though I appreciate you may be concerned that that isn't how he's shown in modern day.

Of course if you are Christian you should either completely shun Christmas, or teach your kids the real meaning (which would include why Christians chose that day to celebrate the birth of Jesus), and since they can't really avoid it the second one would be the best IMO.

Anyway.

Anthony

I'm Christian and I don't really care myself....I'm just throwing it out that's all. Just being goofy I guess.

Christians celebrate Christ's birthday on Christmas day-that's enough for me. We all know he most likely wasn't born on that day or that time of year. And, why we chose that time of year, yadda yadda.

"so I take it you don't celebrate Christmas at all, not even by going to church?"

I went to Midnight Mass last night (Christmas morning).

Anyway....Merry Christmas!

Hey, you`re welcome to your opinion, nothin` wrong with that. But for me the whole goal for the night making those kids smile. Religion, no matter what faith you belong to, should teach it`s value every day, not just at Christmas.
Santa is the modern representation of St. Nicholas, a bishop from Turkey who is the patron saint of those who do good deeds (or give gifts) in secret. That`s why he comes at night. Christmas, Santa, the gifts, it all only becomes a secular materialistic selfish excuse for a shopping spree if WE let it.
Teach your kid Why Santa brings gifts, and the importance of giving over recieving. No one is trying to replace the real meaning of the season, remembering the birth of Christ. And yes, I know, there are old pagan overtones to the traditions and the timing......that`s because long ago people realized that by making a couple of small compromises in the way it`s celebrated made it more accessable to the everyday man of that time. AND IT WORKED! Ask anyone now why we have Christmas and they`ll tell you it celebrates the birth of Jesus. Nobody remembers any of the old pagan holidays. They get a good feeling in thier heart and try to share a little charity and be a little better person.

Just as an aside, I`m no Catholic, I`m a Mormon. Can I ask what made you think I might be Catholic, or did I just misinterprate your post?

It says that she was more interested in GIVING something to help Santa give to other kids than she was in recieving a present. It says she really has learned to think of others. It says that even at that tender age she cares about other people as much as she cares about herself.

If I remember my Bible correctly Jesus said the second great commandment was "to love thy neighbor as thy self." Sounds like Christmas and Santa have really ruined her understanding of the gospel............jerk.

QFT. Also, you don't have to be Christian to celebrate or enjoy Christmas. Santa is more philosophical than anything, giving gifts, being good etc. Let the kids enjoy it!

Good idea OP! I only have a grim reaper costume from halloween, but it'll work with the same principle right? I'm gonna go spread holiday cheer. brb. :P XD

Because that's part of who we are: the blood, the darkness, the dualities, the multiplicities. Your attempt to define existance through your faith is no different to the pagans' attempts.

If it's enough for you to celebrate Christmas when 'all Christians' (WRONG!) do what's your beef with Chosen-frozen?

Chosen, btw, I think you're right on with your spirit of Christmas!

Good idea OP! I only have a grim reaper costume from halloween, but it'll work with the same principle right? I'm gonna go spread holiday cheer. brb. :P XDLOL! :D

Happy Holidays. Hope all your dreams and wishes come true.
well, except for that one dream, where you're back in high school, and you can't find your class, and the schedule is messed up, and you have an exam, and the toilet in the locker room is spewing forth excrement, and you finally see that girl you had the crush on all these years, and when you lift up her dress, she has a p****-but you do it anyway... yeah, that dream. memba?:eek:

I got my grandfather a really nice silver pocket watch with an inlaid half-silver dollar. He's probably going to kick the bucket soon, so I just wanted to get him something nice to send him off in a good way.

My brother-in-law has a man crush on former Reds baseball player Pete Rose. I got him a really nice picture of Mr. Rose, a bottle of KY, and a small box of tissues. It was a ***** wrapping it since those three items make up an irregular shape. I'm sure he will get a kick out of it.

I got my step-dad, a hardcore atheist like myself, the "Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster".

It's from Kayak travel site. It's this older guy reminiscing about in his younger days storming the beach with all of his buddies. You think he's talking about a war or something but in the end you find out it's Cancun!:D

Uh, it's Chanukkah that just started.

Christmas is still a couple of weeks away.

There's still the pagan solstice festival on the 21st-22nd as well and Mithras the Zoroastrian god shares the whole Dec 25th thing too.

i'm sure there must be all sorts of other gods as well that are celebrated in December.

Anyway, just pointing out that it is rude to try an hog a whole month of the year for only one god.
