hey-

does anyone have any recommendations for a good teacher or school in the nyc or central/north jersey areas?

i'm not really entirely sure what to be looking for as i have never practiced or learned a martial art. however, i can tell you what i'd like to gain...

basically i'm looking for something that will help me to develop both internally and externally. i was looking into traditional shaolin schools, but i wasn't sure what schools were legit or not. i'm really hoping to be able to integrate martial arts training with mindfulness/qi gong training.

are there any schools in my area that i would be able to get that hard/soft approach?

You're in a real hotbed over there in the NYC/NJ area.
Might want to get in touch with TenTigers from this site because I think he might be right up your alley and hopefully isn't far away.
At the very least, he knows enough people to get you set up with good instruction very close by.

Hi there,

If you were interested and ever had time to go, I would recommend this school (http://www.shaolinskungfu.com) in China. Training there, I believe you can get the basics fast because it's full time training so the time will go far, as well as training under authentic shaolin masters. But if need to stay in NY, NY Shaolin Temple (www.usashaolintemple.org) may be worth considering if you haven't found a school already.
Best of luck to you with it all.
