My concern is, why aren't competitors allowed to use weapons or fight against animals? Doesn't banning my right to this sort of entertainment violate my consitutional rights?

For weapons check out Dog Brothers. Or real prison videos or real TV videos...faces of death.

I think if a participant has no say in whether or not they participate, that is a violation of their rights. Animals in the wild fighting is a great spectacle and where many forms of Kung Fu come from...but humans vs animals is a bit lopsided and where the animals do not consent to the fight, many would have a problem with this.

The article ignores a lot of things but one thing it does is touch on Ali's parkinsons...Michael J Fox has this as well and he isn't a fighter...

i like the first response to that column:

'God I am so sick of your useless columns, you really have no clue at all lady. Stick to your gripes about getting your SUV stuck in your driveway or emasculating your husband. The sport is not for everyone, but neither is scrap booking, am radio, or Lawrence Welk reruns either. The way your tripe reads its as if he was lying prostate on the ground receiving a beating from a 225 man. Fighting at 135 means his opponent weighed no more than 135 pounds. If this was his first fight, he would be fighting a similarly new fighter. It is a fair competition. MMA is made to sound like a brutal blood fest populated by common thugs and goons. You don't have to search far to find all walks of life interested an participating. Look at some of the stars in MMA, Chuck Liddel, CPA. Rich Franklin, M Ed. Stick to subjects you can speak authoritatively on. You sound like a gossipy now-not when you don't.'

In fact, I'm certain of it.

So, I know MK was jesting, but he was doing it from a point of ignorance. Excusable, but cheering on ignorance is outstanding! lol

s'called "poutine".

Canada is the same standard of living as the US. Except for the climate, government system and population, there really isn't much difference at all between a canuck and a mercan.

If you go from city to city you'll see differences, but at the heart of it all, we're pretty much the same.

If we weren't, it would be hard for Americans to travel around with those canuck flags on their back packs so waiters won't spit in their food. lol :p

Basically we agree that the queen remains the head of state as long as she restricts herself to waving from a carriage and appointing who she is told to for GG.

The GG, in turn, is effectively a figurehead - until the prime minister needs to go crying to her for help protecting his retarded government until such time as the liberals deep six their own chances at forming a viable government by electing a conservative, federalist, war hawk leader.

Ignatieff is scum and should be eaten by rabid wolves...

Simon Simon Simon.

you're just going to confuse people.

You have to delineate things and not use acronyms that are only used or heard in commonwealth nations.

also, Ignatieff has yet to have his Mettle tested. So, give him that small break.

I don't want a coalition that involves the Bloc "I can't get a job in the private sector" Quebecois anyway. If it was just the NDP and the Liberals, I'd be down with that.

the sooner Harper is gone the better. At least Ignatieff has a solid brain.

p.s GG=governor general for you folks shaking your heads. Canada is a sovereign nation unto itself that functions as part of the commonwealth.

And our prostitution laws are laughable. An "escort" can act entirely legally as long as they charge by the hour and not on a fee-per-service basis.

Oh, and simple posession of marijhuana is in a sort of legal limbo that essentially works out to the legality of posession depends on the judge you happen to get.

Many people think that parliament should just officially decriminalize it but then you yankies would be breathing down our amsterdam-like necks.

well the bloc likes to use the term "sovereignist" now, but who cares, they are a one province party and they only represent clamouring people who aren't in touch with the rest of their country.

In all fairness though, people in the west can't be bothered with learning French and there is an issue of inclusion at play at the very least.

the funny part is that the Bloc was created by Liberal MPs as a stop gap feature against the Mulroney government in the 80's which lock stepped with Reagan like Harper lock stepped with Bush. (btw and fwiw it is these two groups who got us into the crap pile we're in now)

They aren't really required anymore and use the language barrier, and ONLY the language barrier as their fundamental tool of governance in the region.

if the people of quebec knew they could trust the federal government as they did under P.E Trudeau and M.Chretien you would see a lot less Bloc.

Ignatieff fits the Trudeau mold more than anyone else so far.

Rae is merely an opportunist who will change sides to suit his own agenda. People like that simply cannot be trusted in office, and especially not in the highest office.

Bob should of stayed NDP and shown some stick to it.

David - I respect and agree with most (almost all) of your posts.

However, I posted this article because I'm seemingly the only person on this forum opposed to MMA and the brutality associated with it, and I agree with Lindor in this respect.

She is speaking to this issue as an outsider, obviously, but with a strong moral concern which I personally agree with.

Lindor Reynolds (and no, I don't know her personally) has a strong reputation in Winnipeg as an advocate for children, the poor, etc. She's got a lot of moral fiber, and for you to say;

"Lindor Reynolds is a left leaning whining overtly soft-liberal fairy fruitcake job.
who gives a rats ass what she thinks? I'm surprised the Press even keeps her on. She appeals to the Oprah "I can't think for myself" set."

...is most interesting. Most people on this forum ascribe these same characteristics to you!!!

I just don't understand why you would slander such a good woman / journalist in this way, and I hope you will reconsider your statement.
