Emil,
Thanks for posting the videos.
They were interesting to a point, but the ending said it all........"Jimmy lost on style".
I guess I lost something in the translation.

Peace,
Bill

I wonder why motofox hasn't commented yet on those clips. Maybe he lost the will to live after watching those?

that was the most horrible final fight and representation of wing chun!

it was just two people throwing chain punches at each other non stop. whoever had better timing would get some in.

when jimmy just threw straight arm boxing punches, he was still effective. the person he fought couldnt defend against it. if jimmy did that to another boxer he wouldnt be so successful.

Just finished watching the episode and am still glad that I got to see it. The two WC Masters are very well known and distinguished. I would have to agree though that Jimmy's fight really sucked and it seemed that the WC went right out the window on both of the combatants. Not sure what happened as we are taught many counters to this type aggression.

Still liked the show...how much can they do in a week (5 days).

Typical of what happens when a system is faced with something that is outside their system.
WC looks like WC when it fights WC, the only time WC will look like WC when it fights another system is when it has been trained to fight an other system.

Were those Leung Ting trained fighters?

***GREAT point, Paul. And even then, some adjustments might have to be made that might make the system look somewhat different than what many people expect it to look like.

i would say the root cause is when you let your emotions get to you and you drop all technique.

i wouldnt necessarily say all wing chun went out the window (except for maybe jimmy)...rather that no strategy or technique other than "let me throw as many punches to this guy and try to hit him harder and faster than he hits me" was used

nothing more entertaining then seeing wing chun get its ass whopped....

if you ever wondered what happens when your only skill is chain punching, and you put 2 people do the same thing.. that's exactly what you get

Apparently this was the guy that Jimmy was supposed to fight, but the producers said no. Which i can see why cause the guys a beast. As for who the people where in the final fight, they were both wearing t-shirts from Sifu Kong's school.

I thought the sparring was very one dimensional, but then again, you've only got 5 days to teach them something. What else is there other chain punching, straight kicks, and an aggressive mentality in such a short period of time?

That whole thing was terrible from start to finish.

What else is there other chain punching, straight kicks, and an aggressive mentality in such a short period of time? They had the aggression. They should have had stepping at angles, turning punches, sweeps, elbows and grabs (lop, and more importantly the fut neck grab). And somebody should have told them that chain punches are only good, useful and in line with wing chun principles for about the first three.

What else is there other chain punching, straight kicks, and an aggressive mentality in such a short period of time? That makes sense for Jimmy and Doug, but the guys they were matched against were described as "champions" of something or other, weren't they? It wasn't easy to tell who had been training for only 5 days.

Is that show still on?

I had made a thread about it when it was on regularly over a year ago and then they only came back with like two episodes after the first season ended.

They are not going to give a man 5 days of training and expect him to fight a champion. The opponent was no more advanced in training than he was.

Fairy tales... It's always easy to claim things from a safe distance and using staged
videos...

Who benefits from such a claim?

Politics again... Welcome to the happy world of Wing Chun!

I enjoyed the videos however not a very good representation of WCK at the end then again how much can you really pick up in 5 days which is why they had the physical and mechanical movements but no comprehension of the energy obviously as when the one guy was doing chi sau and he was like they are feeling my hands somehow. (though it took me a lot more than 5 days to really understand the energy) I think that should be learned before really showcasing wing chun however all and all it was a great video.

Not exactly a great showcase for wing chun, but that is how most begining wing chun people fight. They should have picked more experienced fighters who were a better match in size and experience.
