What do you guys think the mantis hook is for? What would you say the difference is between a mantis hook and a 5-finger grab.

the mantis hook is more of a clinging weapon than a grabbing one allowing the user to maintain control of the opponent and still maintain use of the mantis hand to strike, or hook. mantis hook is very effective if used properly but most people use a grab instead of the hook because ts generally easier to apply. :D

The mantis hand wouldn't be used with brute force like the tiger claw, or necessarily like the eagle claw for pressure points, or like the hawk hand, dragon, or anything else. Each hand formation serves different puposes - some for breaking bones, some for striking pressure points, for punching, for the application of Chin Na. I like to think of the mantis hand as a swiss army knife, if you will - encompassing ying and yang elements. The three finger grab is useful for to yield and release , or to pull in the opponent depending on the opponents movements - also the back of the wrist can be used for striking, and the finger tip as well - the forefinger runs in the direction straight up the opponents arm.The mantis hook could change into an eagle claw at the last second (or fraction of second)from adhering, to grabbing the wrist with force as in when an elbow joint break is attempted to achieve maximum leverage, and assure a good grip on the wrist. You could probally write a thesis on the differences.
