Here's a question I'm wondering what members would think.

-Can a dog have "Buddha Nature"?- (Don't say -MU-) sorry, inside joke.

Perhaps cows may have more of "Buddha nature" hence the MU!

I have read that the dog is a true Sage, because the dog does not necessarily sleep because because it has to, or have a strong desire to sleep, but simply because it is tired.

This is, Taoist nature.

I just read this in a book, take it anyway you want. :)

Since, in essence, there is neither a dog, nor Buddha Nature, the answer IS MU!

I thought the whole point was to rise above the poop.

In essence there is no dog, there is no poop, there is no eating, and there is no Buddha Nature, so there is no dog eating poop with Buddha Nature!

You can't deny poop when it's stuck to your shoe, no matter how enlightened you claim to be...

Is the poop stuck to the shoe, or is the shoe stuck to the poop?

Is the poop stuck to the shoe, or is the shoe stuck to the poop?

neither - it's the mind stuck to the idea of "poop" and "shoe"; so when someone tells you, "dude, yer tracking stink all over my rug!", just smile benignly and offer him some lessons in meditation!

You can't deny poop when it's stuck to your shoe, no matter how enlightened you claim to be...

To the Zen mind, while one stepped in poop from the perspective of conditional existence, they also did not step in poop from the perspective of "THUSNESS". That does not mean in their experience an event did not occur. It occurred and didn't occur at the same time!

It does not mean that no poop was stepped on, it means that they do not attach labels to the experience. It means they do not conceive of an "I" that performed "an action" of an "odious" nature. An occurrence occurred!

Since the perception of an "I" experiencing an event is an artificial construct, the event occurs without attachment an idea of an "I" experiencing an event or to an interpretation that an odious event occurred, at the same time there is no positive attachment to the experience either.

Phenomena are experienced as they are without interpretation, attachment or personal identification, they just "ARE"!

There is no room for enlightenment here!

Zen poop even.

The Zen Master Dog-Poop Story (http://www.comcom121.org/anecdote.htm#poop)

A monk asked his Zen master, "Sir, will you teach me how to manifest my stated intentions." The Zen master said, "Sure. Sit down. I'll show you how to cause a dog to poop on that flat stone in the middle of the yard, on my command. How's that?" The monk said, "Way cool," or something like that. And they sat down.

As dusk approached, the novice said, "Sir, I don’t mean to be rude, but you said…." The Zen master said, "Yes. And I will. We’re waiting for a dog to poop on the stone. When it does, I’ll command it to poop."

To manifest a stated intention you must begin by intending what's happening to be happening, to choose what’s so to be so.

To create something you first must know how to create nothing. Until you know how to create nothing, the space in which something is created, you can't be certain you are creating anything. —by Kerrith H. (Kerry) King

Laurie Anderson is one of my idols. I was offered the chance to interview her last week. Even thought her new film has nothing to do with the martial arts, when I found this thread, that sealed the deal.

Read Laurie Anderson on Tai Chi and the HEART OF A DOG (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=1266) by Gene Ching.
