My student won the 125-lb Extreme Fight League belt in Tulsa tonight. He fought five brutal five-minute rounds and came out with the hard-earned decision.

I have a couple of other coaches that help me run my club and fill the gaps in my knowledge base. We are nowhere near the level of the bigger schools in this state (I don't even have my own building), and the XFL is a relatively small production, but this is a big victory for us and a win for Chinese martial arts in general.

I don't teach forms. I don't teach weapons. But the San Da format we use to train stand-up incorporates a lot of CMA strikes, takedowns, and throws.

I'd also like to thank LKFMDC and his crew, especially Tim O'Conner's conditioning instruction, for showing me how to properly train and helping me put together a functional program. Their knowledge and continuing support has really been very helpful and most appreciated.

Now, I'm going to go get drunk and touch my wife in naughty places.:p

Weighed in at 125 the night before. Fought around 132 or 133.

Great Job!
So what changes have you made in your training methods since training with Tim O'Connor? What did you do before, and what are you doing now?

So what changes have you made in your training methods since training with Tim O'Connor? What did you do before, and what are you doing now?

Tim is LKFMDC's conditioning coach. I use his warm-ups and conditioning drills in class. Nothing earth shattering or new, but he showed us how to incoporate the conditioning drills into a combat-sport environment, utilizing equipment like kettlebells and sand bags.

Of course, someone here is going to say "I've been doing that in my kung fu class for 27 years." So, before you type it, my reply is "So the f@ck what."

I personally think Tim's brilliance is in two areas

1) finding existing exercises in things like yoga, etc and arranging them into sport specific routines relevant to what we do (ie fight)

and

2) taking existing protocals (like Tabata) and breating sport specific routines

Tim has been really busy with real life lately, but his stuff lives on everyday in the classes
