I was at the tournament when this was happening. I cannot remember correctly the name but it was a combination of Hsing-i and another style. I was half listening because I was judging at the moment. (was it Tai Chi or Bagua? Don't know).

Anyway, Gene knows as he was the one who MC the demonstration.

looks like fan tzi quan, or possibly tong bei (moves are not dissimilar, but the energy is more "fan tzi"-like though)

Never actually seen it, but I'd assume it's Xingyi Tongbei.

Cao Yue is a closed-door disciple of Wu Bin. The form is Wu Long Tong Tian Pao (five dragon pass heaven cannon) from Li Taijiquan.

Sheesh, DS sits across the office from me and he asks this on the forum?

That's the first time I've seen it or heard of it. It's a more recent school and yes, it does have a significant xingyi influence. I'm not sure about tongbei. Perhaps I'll research it a little more in my copious free time....

It was kind of funny the way that demo happened. Wu Bin ordered Cao Yue to show that form. Of course, a lot of the high ranking masters gathered to check it out because #1. few had seen it and #2. it was Wu Bin. And everyone seemed to walk away fairly impressed. It was one of my fav demos of the day. I'm glad I was next to stage when it went down.

(whip cracks!)
YOU WILL RESEARCH IT AND REPORT BACK

Does look like Tong Bei to me, though some Hsing Yi looks that way (influenced by TONG BEI!)

Maybe get Wu Bin to explain it, write an article, put it in some magazine maybe :p

...are you wearing your 5" stiletto heels and a bodice, lkfmdc? You know, the taco-colored one that I like....

It is a pretty cool form. I'm glad it caught your attention.

I'll toss it in my research queue.

...but just for the record, lkfmdc and I have yet to meet face-to-face (and you all will rue that day for sure) so there was no taco-colored 5" stiletto heels or bodice involved whatsoever. I categorically deny any and all implications that might be derived from the publication of this article in lieu of this thread.

Nevertheless, check out our JAN/FEB 2010 issue (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=862) which is just coming out now. You'll find an article on Five Dragon Blooming Cannon By Gigi Oh and Gene Ching.

P.S. for the record, I don't do requests. This demo fascinated me too, so I followed up on it.

Ones that can hang with me and ones that are scared

...just like a circus ;)

I hope you enjoy the article. I got the background on Li style taiji in it, along with some basic applications of the form in photos.

Hey Gene, you ever seen the show Dexter? You do any acting on the side?

I was watching, noticed there was more than one form, got to wondering about which form DS was referring to and then I got distracted by this clip in the sidebar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ymhq6afE4M

sweeet.

After that, I really didn't care about the form or DS's query anymore. :D

Besides, ~G already told him.

...we did a sweepstakes for Season 3 (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55090) a few months ago. That was our only non-martial arts prize so far. But as for acting, sure, I act all the time, and not on the side. As part of my job, I act like I'm interested in so-and-so's lineage/fighting skillz all the time, just to be polite. :p

Now there are a lot of people out there wondering if you were faking interest in them.

you're gonna get calls on this one. then you'll have to act your way out of it.

I suggest vacation +plus answering machine. :D

...the more you buy at MartialArtsMart.com (http://www.martialartsmart.com/index.html), the better performance you'll get out of me. ;)

Of course, there's stuff I am interested in for real, like (to get back OT) this wulong form. Honestly, after TCKFMC (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53126), I needed some time to process it all, and this here thread served as a great reminder of that wulong form. It was really challenging to get applications because as you can see from that demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXWB-h8rr2c), it's really slinky and that's near impossible to catch in still photos. Fortunately, Cao Yue had some good background research about the history of Li taiji and the style, so that's the main focus of the article. I was delighted to find a connection to Gan Fengchi (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=498), who is attributed with Hua quan and my root style, Bak Sil Lum.
