This is a two part clip made of a private lesson for a new student Tony. He has a martial arts background and prefers to learn via seeing/feeling the application. This is a basic partner drill version of fan zhang, or the simplest form of single palm change I know. The second part of this clip shows how fan zhang is the entry-way to Baguazhang's version of clinch fighting. I was originally taught the solo version of bagua fan zhang by my first gongfu instructor Sifu Glenn Wright. While the stuff in the first clip are things you might see in some bagua schools very few will explicitly show the clinch stuff in the second clip (assuming they realize it's there!), probably because it's not really needed until you have to train or spar with grapplers (which is where I figured it out!).

Hope it's educational (or at least humorous!). BTW This was the first time Tony had seen this exercise (his first lesson) so he's trying hard to follow along.

Fan Zhang partner exercise.. stationary and moving to learn the lines.

Next we move into the clinch via Fan Zhang / Single Palm Change. I show him the close range shaking hits and how to use the body wave to attack in the clinch. Also towards the end I show him how good bagua structure can be used to resist off-balancing in the clinch..
