I have been reading the The heavybager vs. The formser and it got me thinking about all the aggression present in the world- it's relation to Martial Arts -Why people practice- what they intend to do with what they practice- why they talk about it here- what they look like (especially UKI) - short and long term goals and what they intend to do with their martial art skill?

These days video cameras are dime a dozen so lets see how many have the balls to post real time video of themselves performing a series of skills?

family matter and day job really limit my time of practice.

I still keep a regular schedule of miminal work out.

i began my martial arts training one cycle ago... i got off the plane from being banned from austria and was living on the streets under the bridge in the back of the town cemetary. i was completely outta shape, i couldn't even touch my toes. my old teacher had a studio right in town so since i had no expenses, i started pumping 100 bucks a month into her for roughly two years... at one point i even lived in her attic. i don't no what propelled me to start training, but i have been training and practicing ever since... like i have told before, i think she taught me backwards... while everyone else was doing tantui, i was doing the tendon exchange. i was getting jian lessons and not staff lessons... i was told to walk in small circles while everyone else walked in big circles. now my martial arts is simply part of who i am. i can't even shift the truck without going thru hand positions... stepping thru doors as they close without touching them while shadowing someone thru them... i look at every movement from a martial aspect - everything from using a shovel, pushing a wheelbarrow, hauling blocks, climbing scaffolding, chicken stepping across wire mesh... everything and anything i analyze and find the martial defensive/offensive value of the motion. something clicked in my being way back when and it all simply and wonderfully makes perfect sense. martial arts is not something you train to discover... it is something you discover while training. :)

I gained a bit of weight recently, im embarrased to say... im about 220.

I say this with love: you need to expand your training brother. You got it in you. Improve the intensity a bit and then you will never think of doing all the things you describe. I know, I was just like that. Looking back now, it was my way of compensating for unfulfilling training. Wide stepping over puddles to train my ba gua or shing-I stepping, etc, etc., etc.

Now I'm freaking too bushed after training... so appreciative of the little time that I'm not training, that martial arts is the last thing on my mind. Though I still don't get my feet wet.;)

My goals consist of improving my martial arts as much as I can while I'm still physically capable of testing the material and determining what I like, what works for me and my temperment. Someday I hope to have a family and can share what I've learned with my sons and daughters.

I love surfing. I love writing. I love doing jiu-jitsu and I have to say, in a way, I like fighting too.... but only against the guys I can beat:)

Personally I am not interested to be critical of any one. I had a discussion with woo that lead up to him starting this thread. So many here are so inclined to be combative, insulting and just plain mean. We thought if we got a chance to SEE one another and put names and experiences to faces, perhaps you lunk heads might actually form so bond and strengthen our community.

Many here don't care for me and I give good reason from time to time. I'm am blunt, arrogant, stubborn sarcastic, ironic, dogmatic and opinionated. ON the other hand i have a great sense of humor, I love gung fu, I love people that practice gung fu.
I get set off sometimes mainly when I offer some hard won knowledge form a sincere space and then someone who I may have rubbed wrong over looks the thesis overview and focusses on some minor petty point.

We all have out little quirks but after a nice flame war, a few death threats and issuance of a challenge we at the very least avoid contact or debate and some of us even apologize and gel.

IMHO you all suck I'm the best and that is pretty much it, LOL!:D:D

So many here are so inclined to be combative, insulting and just plain mean. We thought if we got a chance to SEE one another and put names and experiences to faces, perhaps you lunk heads might actually form so bond and strengthen our community.

So many here are inclined to be combative, insulting and mean that posting vids just makes you vulnerable to responses that are overly critical and tactless (at best) or just maliciously nasty for the sheer he!! of being maliciously nasty (at worst). It would be nice if it was a safe place to post vids, because that would be a fun way to learn about other MA's as well as to get helpful constructive criticism. But a lot of people aren't going to be willing to chance putting the big target on their backs. Especially if we're beginners and know that we're far from perfect.

"sticks and stones may break my bones, but pixels will never hurt me." :D

There are people who say I have no skill... to which I reply.. "yeah.. but I'm up on vid for everyone to see".

Good, bad, or indifferent the vid may be.. I put it up for the world to see. Helps keep me realistic.

Unless I've seen video of someone doing what I can do.. I don't tend to take their comments about my "lack of skill" seriously....

I think this is a pretty healthy attitude.. what do you think Dale?

Nothing wrong with being a beginner bro. If they get nasty with you just go to their youtube page and rate all their vids with one star:rolleyes: that's sure to hurt their feelings:D
