what are your goals in practicing whatever you do?

what are your ideas about kung fu?

what do you think how real is the stuff you do?

or how practical?

:)

i think i could have much better training. for the most part i train myself now to keep my techniques from degrading, but i dont get much sparring in anymore.

also the training ive recieved isnt exactly as deadly as i would prefer, but we take what we can find.

however my intention with the things i do know is to be able to use my skills to protect myself and hurt someone as badly as i can as quickly as i can.

the reality of what i can and cannot do is going to be subjective based on the situation i findmyself in and the person(s) i am fighting with.

however i am a peaceful person so i do not start fights. if i end up fighting it is because i am forced to, if someone forces me to fight, they forfit the rights to their saftey and possibly life if that is the extent i must go to so that i may survive.

whether i can pull that off come crunch time is an entirely seperate matter. again it depends on the situation and the parties involved.

Apart from the first two paragraphs I would have written pretty much the same thing.

the answer is the question.

whenever, you learn a move/technique.

you think about the conditions it would work and conditions it would not work.

you already approach the move from the standpoint of practicality.

then you are on top of the moves.

you may modify it, you may not use it or whatever.

you make your learning practical and useful, the momemnt you ask the question of how am I going to use it.

As I've become older I haven't found that many answers, but the questions seem to fade away.

#1 goal is to stay in my physical prime for as long as possible. It's amazing- but alot of my old school mates (high school not kung fu) are already old men and we're only in our mid-thirties.

#2 it changes daily.

#3 depends - I tend to be into the KISS methodology, plus I crosstrain Judo and Jiu Jitsu with 7* Praying Mantis Kung fu. I hate to sound Bruce Lee'ish, but I've kind've transcended styles a while ago. I find that I use the grappling / throwing with a lot more ease and naturally than the Mantis. Probably has to do with my body type and temperament- but I have less "self-doubt" using the grappling if that makes sense. The mantis has put me at ease with strikers - so basically I use mantis to shield against the strikers so I can close in and do a takedown (or lock), then dominate on the ground.

#4 I'm comfortable where I'm at in the martial arts.
