The set in this book seems to be kinda unique in that it combines 4 different traditional styles of Kung Fu. Does anyone have any further info on the author, Chen Chang Mian?

Well, the form's clearly a modern creation, but it's made from 4 traditional systems.

"Tiger (Hung Gar), Crane (Li Gar), Dragon (Hakka Chuan), and Leopard (Choy Li Fut)"

Obviously a complete reference...

"optional" sets, modern wushu (does not necessarily mean flashy gymnastics). Most are based on traditional movement, but in my opinion, lack the depth or the flavor

OK, grab it while I keep it up here (http://www.peatfreak.com/_etc/nanquan.pdf), will remove it in a few days again...

Chen Chang Mian was a Choy Lee Fut (Chan family) person originally and had done other styles (Bak Mei & such). When China became Communist & the Wushu movement happened he was one of those Traditional teachers that became part of the shaping of Modern Wushu. He & his team (the early Guangdong Wushu Team) are often credited with giving the modern Nanquan it's look & feel. His team was also one of the few teams to include Sanshou training early on before it started to really develop into it's full sport form. :)

Thanks Firepalm. That's interesting to find out...

And Asmo, I'm pretty sure that's violating someone's copyright.

I personally find it deliciously ironic when Chinese materials are pirated.

lol :D

Maybe, but his technique looks clean and solid to me. More so than some "pure" traditionalists I've seen over the decades...
