ok... i saw an article on this hong tiger master who was like 70ish - he was training and talking about his concrete/metal dummy training contraption he made... i think it was in the kung fu mag, not sure... anyhow, i want to make one and was curious if anyone had any plans, drawings, or idea's for it... i have the basic outline worked out, but am attempting to hone it with some educated input. thanks. :)

I've always been taught you don't strike metal or concrete, its bad for your training, even with jau.
For what its worth, I think it has to do with the 5 elements, and the creation/destruction cycle.

Oh, yea, and it hurts... once your body harmonizes with metal and concrete, it's perfectly fine to strike these surfaces with respectful moderation. :)

In fact, prolonged contact with concrete can cause a wide range of psychological problems. And delusions of mma.

You are talking about the grinder dummy from Wong Cheung's Sil Lum Hark Fu Muhn style.

"Hung" is a family name and a style.
But not for this. This style is Wong Cheung's own system that also contains Hark Fu Muhn in it's curriculum. So it has sil lum sets, appendant sets, weapons, devices and of course the Black Tiger system all rolled into what is known as Wong Cheung's Sil Lum Black Tiger style (in english) and the Grinder dummy is a device that is unique to this style.
No other style has it.

Not really bold, just matter of fact.

There is a history to the 9 armed/pinned grinder dummy but it's unique to Hak Fu Mun.
Many have tried to copy it and even ask outright to be shown how to make one. Others have offered money and gifts for the plans and the form that goes with it.:D

It gets really WICKED when two people use it at the same time. The harder and faster you hit it, the faster and harder it hits the other person. It's called dummy taking advantage of practitioners or something along those lines.
