this is inspired by the other thread about style choosing.

what would you consider essential or basic in your style.

I will start:

in tai chi, push hand drills

in WC, little ideas

what are key moves or tactics and strategy of your style?

1. ba ji is to get close and closer

and use all of your body parts to strike or throw

2. tong bei is to move in fast in a distance,

strikes upon strikes, first strike pushing 2n strike, 2nd pushing the 3rd--

tong bei is mainly a striking art but of course there are also qin na and throw

tong bei + shuai jiao was popular in beijing

1. ba ji

basic structure is called liang yi ding. there are many derivatives from this stance.

they are complied as a small frame routine.

it is essential to learn the stance and the routine well.

2. tong bei

basic palm methods are 5 element fists or wu xing

they are pi, zuan, pai, chuan, shuai.

the stance is protecting your center line.

your lead fist, nose and lead foot are aligned or san jian xiang zhaa.

1. ba ji

stepping methods are heavy, b/c you want to end the move/posture strong and deliver a heavy blow.

2 tong bei

there are many stepping methods, you are moving fast, linear, s curve, figure 8, sideways--

the figure 8 stepping, confusing people with ba gua

but they are tong bei

and of course nine palace stepping (again not unique in ba gua)

nice thread... i like it, although not giving away too many secrets is the biggest secret of all.

i have been fashioned around the concepts of tiger - all inclusive as it is... ready to pounce in twinkling of an eye, yet maybe it would only end up as a great monkey scream?? throw in a few fistfuls of mantis trapping/breaking concepts(tweaked with a good amount of bagua/circle/dragon principles) to further add a dimension of close combat protection(this is actively being enhanced daily with iron ball juggling;)) i suppose depending on the confrontation, strikes would be limited to hammerfists, open hand, backhand, forearm, elbow, shoulder, head, and whole body strikes until the opponent(or opponents) are rendered incapacitated - more hostile situations will be adjusted to accordingly, on a case by case basis... tooth and claw would naturally be of last resort.

at the end of the day, much like all tigers, you respect the fact that it looks like it could turn into one mean mother****er that you wouldn't want to tangle with, because even if it loses the fight, it'll be taking a whole lotta flesh and blood out with it. :)

Enter close to impede incoming force.

Cut across (clear by cutting)

Step diagonally

trap and crush (clinch and pull down with squeeze)

strike the body / push the head

circle round to hook when held

step on the feet and strike

be still and change quickly (be mobile, but not constantly mobile)

=============================================

to be clear, writing this stuff out barely touches o any of it, so I leave out a lot. It is much more readily learned through a more visceral course. :)
In the end, it's all Sil Lum kungfu principles.

1. if it is a poem, it would be nice that it is also singable.

a tune seeking lyric

lyric seeking a tune.

2. the same idea

a name is looking for a move

or a move is looking for a name

3. and if that name is like a poem, easy to remember and some poetic meaning--

go back to top.

yes if all the moves have poetic names, and they are singable

etc etc
