Northern and Southern?

Ok this isnt a versus thread. But I have a few questions..

1. The New Shaolin movie with Jackie Chan, what temple is it based on? A northern or Southern temple?

2. If I wanted to study a style from the North and One from the south that had the following:

-No high kicks (head, or neck; wait area and lower)
-Close combat; with alot of emphasis on being close, yet being able to defend and use offensivly at med range)
-Good fluid movements and power

Also I was reading on here that someone said according to History, the Northern temples had the better fighting record. Where can I find info and do some studying on this?

OK one more thing- who are some famouse fighters from both the north and south shaolins? that actually fought.

1, song shan shaolin was geographically center in the north

meaning most people will travel via here in the old time

so it is good place to exchange fighting methods for many people.

at one point, there were militia monks or warrior monks that fought for the royal court just like regular army and got paid.

2. if you want to learn something north and something south

may be 7 star mantis (north)

crane or tiger crane or 5 ancestor fist from the south

many fighters from the south were anti qing and pro ming---

again, they fought as militia or guerrila against regular army

they were soldiers and not professional fighters in the ring--
