The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods.
The man who tries methods, ignoring principles,

Couldn't guess because I am not well read enough. But I looked it up-ish. Found out. But I couldn't guess, who.

I have said that for about 10 years now on this BB and have been poo pooed nearly every time by a number of "know-it-alls!"

yep, you and me both. This forum is a mix of casting pearls before swine, and Preaching to the choir, bro.
they are 2 way streets.
from many methods, we summarize common things as a principles
from principles, we may derive more methods/applications.
principles do not exist in vaccum/alone
principles only make senses when applied to methods.
actually, a method is a summary of common things in techniques.
we all practice basic techniques and some methods first
later we learn some principles
we may just practice methods without knowing the principles
however, principles will help us to understand whatever we do better.

now my tongue is tied after chewing on the words of method and principle in several ways.

need to sing a song to untie it.

Gung Fu master? That's from Emerson.
I don't know if I would categorize him as a Gung Fu master; he was more like a master of the Tao.

We have a winner!
What do we have for him, Jay?
"We have a a heated kidney shaped pool,
a microwave oven--don't watch the food cook,
a Dyna-Gym--I'll personally demonstrate it in the privacy of your own home,
a king-size Titanic unsinkable Molly Brown waterbed with polybendum,
a foolproof plan and an airtight alibi,
real simulated Indian jewelry,
a Gucci shoetree,
a year's supply of antibiotics,
a personally autographed picture of Randy Mantooth
and Bob Dylan's new unlisted phone number,
a beautifully restored 3rd Reich swizzle stick,
Rosemary's baby,
a dream date in kneepads with Paul Williams,
a new Matador, a new mastodon,
a Maverick, a Mustang, a Montego,
a Merc Montclair, a Mark IV, a meteor,
a Mercedes, an MG, or a Malibu,
a Mort Moriarty, a Maserati, a Mac truck,
a Mazda, a new Monza, or a moped,
a Winnebago--Hell, a herd of Winnebago's we're giving 'em away,
or how about a McCulloch chainsaw,
a Las Vegas wedding,
a Mexican divorce,
a solid gold Kama Sutra coffee pot,
or a baby's arm holding an apple!"

A wise man,
I tried to start a thread on the principles of wushu, but no one replied with anything useful so i stopped adding to it.

It is just a stupid joke.....you began a thread on the principles of wushu and no one responded.........
wushu........wu-shoe
wu shoe = without shoes!!! i.e bare feet.......why would anyone want to discuss a man with bare feet?
I know a real stretch, but it was hilarious to me, LOL!!!:D
I know it was stupid, but it just occurred for me spontaneously and I couldn't resist an obtuse joke!!!
