I pay $50 Canadian per month. Private lessons at sifu's house, 90-120 min, once a week, wear whatever you like. It's by far the best deal in my city. Some of the TKD and Karate schools charge as much as $100 for group classes, plus all kinds of other fees.

Hehe, look around in your city. I'm sure there are a few high level martial artists with low profiles, accepting a few private students.

Paul,
Would you happen to live in Calgary?

Actually, I live in Edmonton, 300 km north of Calgary. I don't know everything about the martial arts scene in Calgary, but I can make some recommendations if you like.

50 a month for kung fu OR taiji or 60 a month for kung fu AND taiji. There are 7 kung fu classes a week and 7 taiji classes a week and you can come as much as you like. Actual classes are in a set time frame, but you can come in and train by yourself almost anytime.....

Weapons. With me, I either buy my own or make my own. Doesnt cost anything extra to learn weapons.

7 days a week is the kind of gym I'd love to have access too. I just go to sifu's place for a couple of hours a week, and spend the rest of the time training at home. It's tough training weapons in winter time when you dont have a nice training hall. Other than that, home training is pretty much a great thing.

Weapons in Alberta cost about the same as anywhere else in Canada. We just have no selection though, hehehe. If you want anything, best to order from Vancouver, USA, or HK/China.

As for recommendations, I have heard that Chiu Wei is supposed to be one of the best in Calgary. He's hung gar, and you can find his medical practice in Chinatown. I havent seen him in action, and my sifu hasn't seen him for about 20-30 years, so I'm just going by what I've heard. Also, there is a mizong luohan (my jong law horn) school in Calgary run by Alex Kwok and Greg Louie. I've heard good things about them as well.

One thing to absolutely stay away from is Simon's "Temple Kung Fu".

Good Luck, and let me know if you find anything else good.

Whenever I like twist a ankle bad or something my mom takes me to Chiu Wei, he is like my distance uncle, welll my moms distance uncle. As for the Mizong Lohan do you know where it is located? I was about to join Tai Chi College but I guess I have some new choices now...

You pay for what you receive!
Any good teacher who knows how to teach fighting using all martial arts skills and techniques, will not be charging $50/mo.!!
You all have found great personal trainers and exercise coaches, but not any good paractioners of Martial Arts to learn from.

Actually this is not true. It depends on if the Teacher is teaching because they want or need to make money or that they just love teaching. I've had my best instruction in both Qi Gong and Kung fu from teachers that didn't charge me a cent.
