Beautiful Night Music from Brazil

Hey, we are in the off-topic section, so I thought I will share a sample of my third worldly passion, which is authentic (:D) music, about which I know a thing or two about - specially Latin American music:

This is Leila Pineiro from Brasil singing with a voice and tone that will touch many souls, so no need to understand the words. The melody of this song, through the excellent orchestration, will also speak to the heart.

Brasil, for my money, has the best female vocalists on the planet - this is just my opinion, so no flame wars please.:)

I guess it is good to post music like this once in a while to remind us that there is more to life than silly flame wars and petty political arguments, that miss the truth.

nice; although not so sure why they superimposed the song on top of a bunch of Van Gogh crazy-paintings (with the exception of my favorite, Cherry Blossoms at 1:26, which he painted in an uncharacteristic good humor when his nephew was born - great work, saw it "live" in Amsterdam, have a print up in my son's room; but anyway...);

LOL, I don't know either, even though, some of them did somehow fit in with the melody of the song in a mysterious way, IMHO.

Anyway, I enjoyed the surprising appearance of the genius, Van Gogh.

Oh yes, the great and legendary Milton Nascimento. I remember seeing him many, many years ago in the Royal Festival Hall in London, where I spotted Eric Clapton in the audience. I missed him while living in Rio. I think he lives in another part of Brasil.

However, during that time, I had music coming out of my ears and I will probably end up living there in a couple of years time, so perhaps finally I can complete my Wing Chun studies, as well, before I am 90......LOL.

BTW, if you get the chance then play the song to your wife and see wether she likes it. I believe that the melody of the song will sound very appealing to the musical tastes of a good number of people from East Europe.

You know, I am not an opera person, but I enjoyed that. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I grew up listening to classic music and opera, which my mother would always play. She is a big fan.

By all means post more of the stuff that you like. Sometimes, music helps us know and understand others.

Do you also like jazz? Or Latin Jazz? Bossa Nova? Salsa (classic not commercial)? Etc.?

If so, then put up some samples of those. Good music will only bring benefits to any conversation.

By the way, this is, Jose Jose, one of the best male vocalists that Latin America has ever produced. this was filmed in 1970 at a music festival/contest and he brought the house down, and this at a young age, singing an extremely difficult song:

Listening to them took me back to Rio de Janeiro where I used to live for 5 years and the city that left me with the best post childhood memories, and where I am planning to return to settle down in the near future.

Great song! :) Im a big jazz fan and find Brazilian tunes have that same relaxing feeling about them. I love the artists Os Gemeos from Brazil who are amazing as well. And I have heard that Rio is a very beautiful place to visit, especially during Carnival. Your lucky to have lived in and experienced such a cool place. I need to take advantage of the workplace benefits and get down there!

In that case, here is another gem from Brazil. The haunting melody that is the song, Corsarío, interpreted by one of the best female vocalists to come out of Brazil, the late Elis Regina. Some Brazilians see her as the greatest ever, and that is saying something in a country full of gifted female singers.

Carnaval time (together with December/New Year period) is pretty hectic, and on top of that, very expensive for tourists, but the attractions are obvious. During the year one can still catch plenty of sun, beach, sightseeing and music, at lesser cost, perhaps enabling him to have a longer vacation.

Of course, the Rio winters are during the summer period of the Northern hemisphere. The temperatures during this period are unstable, but never too cold, so some years there is plenty of sunshine.

The months of April and May are good times to travel if you want to avoid the peak season.

Every time I watch this video I realize how unfortunate I was to leave Rio, for cold and rainy London, but then we can't control our destiny all the time. At least now I live in tropical Colombia, which is a pretty fantastic country in its own right, and not too far from Brazil.
