ok, so I'm moving into a new location. The ceiling is 10 feet high, with a suspended ceiling, and the bar joists are about 5 feet higher.
To hang a chain from the joists will result in too much swinging and destroy the suspended ceiling.
I am thinking that if I hang the chain, then about near the level of the ceiling, attach four chains, or guy wires, turnbuckles,or something in four directions to isolate the movement. In this way the bag (might) only swing from the attachment points down. (it works on paper, I will make a small model and see what happens)
Any other ideas?
The walls are not cinderblock, so anchoring a support into them is not an option.
I am also considering building one of those four post frame supports that they sell in Ringside. 3"square tubing. The ringside ones are too small, so it will have to be welded up., which may also save some dollars.
Also, anyone have any experience with the larger size floor bags, such as the XXL from Century?

build a paneled frame to mount this too and attach it to the wall at the studs.

not sure if studs will support it. It might pull out of the wall. I'm in a strip mall with only studs and sheetrock walls partitions.

Dude, is swaying is the issue, tie the bag down and hang it with a coil spring.
The eliminates the sway and the "pull" on the beams.

TT, if you make a panel frame first and mount that to the wall so it is secured to several studs, then mount the bag holder to that panel frame, then hang the bag off of that.

You aren't mounting the bag to the wall, but the frame you are.

safest bet is to

1. Use a steel flat bar from the ceiling Mount & SPring to the top of the heavy bag (that will help eleviate the swing.

2. You will also need to attatch the bottom of the bag to a floor mount hook.
If you aren't taking the bag off & on (permanently placed) then this would be perfrect. http://us.patriotstrengthequipment.com/cgi-bin/md/M14597/s1.pl?

If you plant to take down and need the floor mount to be flush with the floor there are a couple of options.

there is a folding flush wood floor hardware I saw at a gymnastics center years ago. Here is one that is similar http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/33029_lg.jpg

Or if it is just concrete: Drill a bolt anchor into the floor. Each time you want to remove all yo have to do is unscrew the eye-bolt. The threaded mount/lag nut will be flush with the floor.

hope this helps - they did for me.

I hung a heavybag from the ceiling in my apartment. I even made a thread with pics, but I'm searching for it and cannot find it. Maybe it has been pruned?

Well, I couldn't find it on the forum, but I found it using a site: search on Google in the archives:
