What it is that a Master expects from a student?

Hi all,
In my time in the Martial Arts I have seen
or heard at least 2 Masters not teaching all
they know to current students because of
something earlier students have done to that
Master. Has anyone experienced this in their
art and if so, what were the circumstances
that caused the distrust from that Master?
It seems this might cause the art to possibly
die as a result. Has anyone overcome such
distrust and succeeded in carrying on the
art? What is it that the Master wants from
a student to receive the entire art?

Martial arts takes discipline. Needless to say, if one commits too many acts of antidiscipline, the master gets the sense that a student is not serious about it. If I were to take a disciple (not a student), I would have to say I would like a human being not a human machine. An artist of life not a champion athelet. But then again such a person need not my teaching. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
