CANTON —

Often during a burglary, an intruder enters the home, perhaps causes some property damage, steals some items and leaves.

But in a burglary early Tuesday, an unshaven homeless man went into a residence in the 1300 block of 13th Street SE, apparently through an unlocked door, entered the kitchen, placed a can of noodles and pack of cigarettes into his pocket and then crawled into bed with the home’s occupant and his wife, according to a police report.

The report does not disclose how the occupant realized there was a third person in his bed during the incident, which took place around 2:45 a.m. But at some point, the intruder fled through a side or back door.

A police supervisor, who wasn’t on duty during that morning shift, read additional details from the dispatcher’s notes. Police found the man, who was wearing a dark baseball cap, peeking through a window of a home in the 1400 block of 13th Street SE and took him into custody.

The report and court records identified the arrested man as Michael C. Phillips, 22, with no address.

“He told the officers he’s a ninja and knows mixed martial arts,” the supervisor read from the notes, adding that Phillips, described as roughly 5 feet 8-inches tall and 160 pounds, is also known by his moniker of “Snake Eyes.”

Phillips was charged with felony burglary and a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana. He is scheduled to appear today in Canton Municipal Court.

The report said police suspect that Phillips consumed alcohol and drugs. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts.

The home’s occupants, whom the report said were not physically harmed, could not be reached for comment Tuesday night. The police sergeant who was on duty that morning was out on patrol and also couldn’t be reached.

Evil ninjas terrorise Pittsburgh (http://www.boingboing.net/2011/04/25/evil-ninjas-terroris.html)
Rob Beschizza at 4:50 PM Monday, Apr 25, 2011

A spate of mysterious crimes carried out by ninjas has left Pittsburghers annoyed and confused.

In the latest event, a sword-wielding ninja smashed 11 cars in South Union Township, PA. and tried to stab a man who confronted him, say police. Santino Guzzo said he heard glass breaking, found the ninja hiding in a yard, and was cut in the hand during the ensuing ninja escape.

"He was like a gazelle that just got attacked by a lion," Guzzo told the Pittsburgh Trib. "He got up and fell, and got up and fell. Then he jumped off a cliff."

Guzzo reported that he "did not move with the grace typically associated with a ninja" and that he therefore "will not live in fear of the ninja's return."

WTAE news, quoting neighbor Chelsey Cunningham, said the ninja also left behind "like, a fifth of liquor."

A few weeks ago in Scottdale, PA, a man was charged with child endangerment after leaving his 4-year old child at home alone. Police insist that Ross Hurst, 28, was dressed in ninja garb when approached. Hurst denies being a ninja and says it was all a misunderstanding.

"I wasn't playing ninja," Hurst told WPXI news. "I wasn't playing anything. I went out for a jog."

Not long ago, two sword-wielding ninjas robbed a gas station in Richland Township, PA, taking with them cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

"It did appear they were dressed like ninjas," said local police chief Robert Amman. Local businessman Rick Lekki reported that it happened just across from his bar.

"It's shocking. Things like that just don't happen out here. I just can't believe it happened," Lekki told a local news affilliate, narrowing his eyes as a menacing, discordant note escaped an unseen shakuhachi flute.

Throwing star found in woman's carry-on at airport (http://www.sbsun.com/breakingnews/ci_18456826)

For the second time in a little over a month, a martial arts throwing star was discovered inside a passenger's carry-on bag.

Transportation Security Administration officers stopped Courtney Susan Brown, 18, Saturday when the weapon was spotted during an x-ray screening at LA/Ontario International Airport, according to a police statement.

Brown, bound for Phoenix, was taken into custody, cited and released for possessing a prohibited weapon, officials said.

In June, TSA officers discovered two martial arts throwing stars in the carry on bag of a passenger. The man, bound for Phoenix, was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon, according to a TSA news release.

Martial arts throwing stars and other self-defense items can be placed in checked baggage but are not allowed in carry-ons.

With any kind of illegal item, passengers have a reason for carrying it, said Nico Melendez a TSA Public Affairs Manager. Excuses range from absent-mindedness to gifts and souvenirs.

"But the fact is throwing stars, brass knuckles - they're illegal not only at the airport but in the streets and if you're found with them you're arrested there too," Melendez said.

There have been other weapon recently discovered at the Ontario airport:

- July - a man traveling to Phoenix was arrested after TSA officers found a 9 mm firearm loaded with eight rounds of ammunition in his carry-on bag during the x-ray screening process.

-June - police questioned a Denver-bound
Advertisement
man who had six rounds of .45 caliber ammunition in his carry on bag. Officials seized the and the man was cleared for travel. He was not charged or cited.

- May - a loaded, undeclared .22 caliber hand gun was found inside a man's checked bag. The gun, which belonged to the passenger, was released back to him after officials conducted a criminal records check on the man and the weapon.

- April - a man was taken into custody at the Ontario airport after security officers discovered a collapsible batton inside his carry-on bag. The Oakland-bound passenger was arrested for possessing a deadly weapon.

But it's not just a local problem.

Other Southern California airports - including Burbank, John Wayne, and LAX - have been subject to weapons arrests - both ordinary and unusual.

"One passenger had three throwing stars (in their carry-on) another had an antique shot gun," Melendez said. "It happens quite frequently."

The prolonged legal saga of Ahkinea Cox, which began with a string of robberies in 2008 that earned him the nickname “the ninja robber,” came to its end in Johnson County District Court with his sentencing Friday.

Following a plea deal struck last month, Judge Mitchell Turner sentenced Cox to a maximum of 25 years in prison, under which he will serve a mandatory term of at least 17 1/2 years.

Cox, 33, received 25 years after pleading guilty to first-degree robbery for robbing of a Gasby’s gas station on Gilbert Street in November 2008. He also received a pair of 10-year sentences for second-degree robbery for his part in the holdups of Hy-Vee and Delimart that same year. Cox will serve the terms concurrently, with a 70 percent mandatory minimum term.

Cox’s court-appointed lawyer, Mark Meyer, filed a constitutional challenge to the mandatory sentencing provision Friday, arguing that such provisions are often enacted by the legislature in reaction to a single tragic event to show that lawmakers are “tough on crime.” Meyer said that encroaches on his client’s constitutional rights because none of the specific factors in Cox’s case can then be taken into account in the sentencing, particularly his “rotten social upbringing.”

Cox’s mother abandoned him at a young age, his father was a crack addict and Cox was an abused child, Meyer said.

Meyer also said Cox’s limited intelligence should be taken into account: “All the experts agree Mr. Cox has the intellectual capabilities of a child, essentially.”

Assistant Johnson County Attorney Anne Lahey said Cox must be being treated like anyone else convicted of such offenses.

“We think it’s important Mr. Cox be incarcerated for the protection of the community,” she said.

Turner told Meyer the judicial branch has no authority to change the terms of a plea deal, other than to reject it, and he saw no reason to do so Friday.

Cox, a.k.a. Lil Bit, was caught in the act by police while robbing a Gasby’s in 2008 at knife point. Police then tied him to the pair of earlier robberies, including the Delimart holdup in which two men dressed in black, ninja-like attire robbed the clerk and a customer at gunpoint.

In 2010 a judge dismissed the charges, ruling that Cox did not receive a trial within one year as required, prosecutors had argued that the time taken to to perform a mental competency evaluation should have pushed that one-year mark back. The dismissal was later appealed and reversed, but Cox fled the state before he could face charges again. He was arrested in November 2011 in Dundee, Ill., on outstanding warrants.

Cox, who has been behind bars for 49 months over the past five years, according to Meyer, asked the judge whether his time served would be subtracted from the sentence. Turner said that would be a decision made by the Department of Corrections.

In addition to the prison sentence, Cox was ordered to pay $1,467 and $1,340 in restitution to Delimart and Hy-Vee.

An individual flashing neighborhood residents while wearing a ninja costume has continued to elude police by reportedly running into wooded areas.

WSOC-TV reported Friday that the man “seems to escape from police running to wooded areas” as a way “to hide.”

According to individuals who have seen the suspect, the man wears a ninja costume, but is naked below the waist.

“He had what looked like a ninja hood, a mask covering his face and a black shirt and nothing on below his waist,” Michael Collins, a witness, told WSOC-TV.

“At first, we thought it was just a young kid doing a prank but it’s scary to actually find out it’s a guy parading around the streets here,” John Salamone, neighbor, added.

Police reportedly do not believe the man has physically harmed anyone, but are eager to catch him before that potentially changes.

Professor’s son dressed in ninja costume caused campus lockdown: police (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/nov/5/professors-son-dressed-ninja-costume-caused-campus/)

The son of a professor was to blame for a police-ordered lockdown at Central Connecticut State University that lasted more than three hours and included talk of weapons and shots fired, authorities said Tuesday.

University heads said professor Peter Kyem’s son, David Kyem, 21, was arrested on breach of peace charges and freed on a $1,000 bail, CBS reported. He was faulted for the campus chaos on Monday. Police never recovered any weapons and said those on the campus were never in danger.

They also declined to release further details about Mr. Kyem’s charges or about the incident.

The suspect’s father, however, said to CBS that his son went to a three-day, off-campus party and returned to the school still in costume — as a ninja. He also said his son didn’t have a weapon — only a plastic gun — and that all was fine.

“He assured me that there’s nothing happening,” the elder Mr. Kyem said, in CBS. “Apparently they had isolated him in his room, and he didn’t know.”

Police reported that the suspect didn’t struggle when he was arrested.

“We had no real threat to students or faculty,” said Chris Cervoni, chief of police at the campus, in the CBS report.

POSTED September 9, 2014 8:00 p.m.

A Turlock man stopped for shoplifting arrow tips from Walmart on Monday was found in possession of Shuriken knives, also known as ninja throwing stars, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The suspect, identified as Lance Mitchell, 30, was taken into custody around 9 p.m. Monday at the Walmart store at 2111 Fulkerth Rd.

Mitchell is suspected of previously stealing items from the store by hiding them in his motorcycle helmet and fleeing on a motorcycle before police arrive, according to the police department.

On Monday, loss prevention agents from the store recognized him and watched as he hid several arrow tips in his helmet and then made for the exit. He was stopped before he could escape and detained until the police arrived.

A search of Mitchell revealed he was in illegal possession of the ninja throwing stars.

Mitchell was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and a weapon offense.

Hank Investigates: "Tree Ninja" (http://www.whdh.com/story/26607604/hank-investigates-tree-ninja)

Reported by Hank Phillippi Ryan
Local News -- Metro Boston

BOSTON (WHDH) - A local community in fear and anger--as one of their own neighbors seems determined to destroy their property--and not even the police can stop him! What this guy is doing is illegal and shocking--and Hank got him caught on camera. You wont believe what you're about to see as Hank investigates--"the tree ninja."

Boston police say this man attacks his victims with axes and hammers. Here he is, caught by a neighbors surveillance camera-in the act.

Yuly Mekler, Brighton Resident: "I think that he is dangerous."

Brian McLaughlin, Brighton Resident: "It's been going on and on and on."

And officials are powerless to stop it.

Yuly Mekler: "All the police know but they can't do anything"

It's not people the police say Brighton resident Joe Rizza is harming, it's trees! Police reports say Rizza dresses in black, like a ninja, then, under cover of darkness he attacks the trunks of neighborhood trees with a hammer or ax--listen…

And then? He then disappears in to the night.

Several of his Brighton neighbors say they have seen him do it, even caught him, time after time.

Hank: "Have you said, 'why are you doing this?'"
Yuly Mekler: "Yes."
Hank: "And what happens?"
Yuly Mekler: "He turns and runs."

Eventually, the trees die--and though he's been repeatedly charged with malicious destruction of property and even was court-ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet--neighbors say the attacks continued.

Hank: "That is what he does?"
Yuly Mekler: "Yes. That is what he does."

Here's proof, residents are terrified of where the "tree ninja" will attack next--they've actually created wood and chicken wire barricades to keep him away.

Hank: "That's bizarre."
Yuly Mekler: "Yeah, that's bizarre."

The City initially replaced the ninja victims--costing so far about 4300 taxpayer dollars--but now, the City says, they simply can't keep replanting.

Hank: "Why?"
Greg Mosman, City of Boston Arborist: "Because he's gonna do it again."

Look: So here's what Winship Street used to look like, see that tree on the left? And now it's gone.

Rizza's now been charged--again- that's why he was in Brighton Court this day--but he wasn't answering any of our questions.

Hank: "Mr. Rizza? Why do you chop the trees?"
(Joseph Rizza: Doesn't answer.)

His father admitted his son has a problem.

Hank: "So why does he do it, has he told you why he does it?"
Tony Rizza, Joseph Rizza's Father: (pointing to head) "Mental, mental."

And his mother--simply ordered us to go away.

But for now neighbors watch and barricade and wonder if there will be another attack.

Polygamous women in 'ninja' apparel charged in home attack (http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=31707517)
By Pat Reavy

2 women arrested in alleged home invasion, attack

WEST JORDAN — Two women who police say are involved in a polygamous relationship with a man accused of raping a child allegedly dressed as ninjas and broke into the house where the girl was sleeping.

Tylynn Southwick, 19, and Raven Blackwing, 22, were each charged Thursday with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, retaliation against a witness or victim, a third-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. Bail for each was set at $1 million cash only.

Prosecutors believe both women broke into a house last week where the girl was staying, just four days before she was scheduled to testify against her alleged attacker.

On Sept. 19, a man staying at the house in West Jordan heard the upstairs floor creaking just before 4 a.m. He went to investigate and was confronted by two people dressed all in black, including black masks and black latex gloves.

"The two individuals lunged at (the man), putting their hands towards his throat," the charges filed in 3rd District Court state.

Another man in the house heard the commotion and went to assist. When he did, one of the intruders went after him with a stun gun and grazed his arm, according to the charges. The man was able to wrestle the woman to the floor and hold her until police arrived.

Arriving officers found Southwick was being held down by one of the men, while the other was holding Blackwing at bay on the couch with a samurai sword, the charges state.

Investigators found the two women were in possession of a knife, a large piece of cellophane, matches, a screwdriver, syringes, and Formalin, according to the charges. Police say Formalin is a strong chemical used to knock people out.

Also inside the home at the time was a 14-year-old girl who was asleep. The girl is the alleged rape victim of Kain Blackwing. He was charged in July with one count of rape, a first-degree felony. The girl was scheduled to testify against him at his preliminary hearing, according to police.

That court hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday, was continued. A scheduling hearing was set for Nov. 6.

Court documents list Raven Blackwing as Kain Blackwing's wife and Southwick as his "girlfriend." West Jordan police, however, say both women claim Kain Blackwing is their husband.

Ask a Juggalo: Why do some Juggalos call each other ninja? (http://www.metrotimes.com/detroit/ask-a-juggalo-why-do-some-juggalos-call-each-other-ninja/Content?oid=2270166)
By Vinnie Monaster

http://www.metrotimes.com/imager/b/story/2270167/dc90/askajuggalo.jpg
Vinnie Monaster, 34, is a longtime Juggalo living in Roseville. He's better known as Vinnie the ICP Kid, who was interviewed in his bedroom "museum" in the 1997 ICP film Shockumentary.

Q: Why do Juggalos call each other ninja? What does that mean?

A: Aww, that's fresh. This goes all the way back to the beginning, to the beginning to the philosophy of Psychopathic Records. It's a compliment. To use the word ninja is a lot of honor, and you gotta be real skillful and real tactful. To be a ninja, you are a master of the arts. And it's not smoke and mirrors; this isn't some kind of hocus-pocus. It's the real deal. Being able to show up and literally have nothing in your pocket but be able to help someone or be able to be real cool. All of a sudden, somebody is hooking you up. They're figuring out a way to get you into the show. Whether it's a little bit of help from this person or a little bit of help from that person, it's amazing. Just to be a ninja, you're not just extremely down with the clown, you're a master, whether it's making sure that you're spreading the word and getting other Juggalos involved or explaining the benefits and the fun that's involved in being a Juggalo. Making it to the shows and listening to the music and spreading the good word. To be a ninja, that is so old-school. That's what I consider myself. I'm an old-school ninja. Flat out. Right off the bat, you're probably not a ninja. You have to have the skills. Once you've really found yourself and once you're really, really getting everything out of it that you want, that is truthfully being a ninja. Pulling out all [the] stops. It's really simple as far as — you could either just get by or go through the motions and that's completely acceptable, or you could be rocking the full ability to make everything around you better and to not be missing the mark. And just be schooling it. It takes skills, heart, loyalty, vision, if you will. Leadership. — mt

Former Girlfriend and Sister of Chris Kyle’s Accused Killer Testify (http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2015/02/19/former-girlfriend-and-sister-of-chris-kyles-accused-killer-testify/)
by Sarah Rumpf 19 Feb 2015 Stephenville, TX16

http://media.breitbart.com/media/2015/02/Eddie-Ray-Routh-girlfriend.png

Defense attorneys for Eddie Ray Routh, accused of killing “American Sniper” author and Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield, continued to present their case on Wednesday, calling Routh’s former girlfriend and then his sister to testify. Routh has admitted killing the two men but has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Routh is accused of shooting and killing Kyle and Littlefield at a shooting range in February 2013, where the two men had brought him to help work through the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Routh was reported to had suffered since serving in the Iraq war and in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

Routh’s sister, Laura Blevins, testified that Routh had come to her home after the killings, according to a report by KXAN. Blevins described Routh as being “almost in a daze” and said that he had admitted to her that he had killed the two men.

“He said he took their souls before they could take his,” said Blevins. “I asked him what he meant by that, and he said they were out to get him.”

Routh had stolen Kyle’s truck and driven it to his sister’s home. Blevins testified that when she saw the truck, she feared that he was telling the truth. She begged him to turn himself in, but he refused and left her home. Blevins and her husband then called the police, who later tracked down Routh and arrested him. Video from Routh’s arrest and jailhouse interview was played earlier in the trial.

As Breitbart Texas reported, evidence was also presented that Routh was on multiple anti-psychotic medications and had been hospitalized three times for mental health issues. On Wednesday, Blevins testified that she had distanced herself from Routh after his last hospitalization, out of fear that he posed a danger to her family. She also described his behavior that day as “not who I know as my brother,” according to a report by NBC News.

Routh’s former girlfriend, Jennifer Weed, also testified that, just a few days before he killed Kyle and Littlefield, he had exhibited bizarre, frightening behavior, including threatening her with a ninja sword, calling her a demon, and claiming that he heard voices and saw things that were not there.

Routh asked her to marry him the night before the killings, she said. She testified that they argued the next morning, and then Routh smoked marijuana while he waited for Kyle to show up for their planned outing to the shooting range.

Defense attorneys face an uphill battle to establish that Routh was legally insane at the time of the killings. “As in most cases where the insanity defense is raised, the odds of success are daunting,” criminal defense attorney Brian Wice told Breitbart Texas, “especially in this case where the victim is widely perceived to be a true American hero [like Kyle].”

Wice, who practices law in Houston, further explained how both sides would likely proceed with their strategy. “The defense will likely focus on a trio of factors: expert psychiatric testimony that the accused’s severe mental disease or defect precluded him from knowing that his conduct was wrong, lay testimony from the accused’s friends and family corroborating his protracted history of bizarre and seemingly inexplicable behavior, and the narrative that the facts of the case are the compelling barometer of the accused’s inability to distinguish right from wrong.”

“The prosecution will likely counter this evidence in rebuttal with its own psychiatric expert to show that not every degenerating mental disease or defect, including PTSD, rises to the level of insanity, especially where the accused exacerbates his mental state by using drugs and alcohol,” concluded Wice.

Kyle was a Navy SEAL and the most lethal sniper in American military history, serving four tours in Iraq. He received multiple commendations for his service before being honorably discharged from the Navy in 2009. A native Texan, Kyle was born in Odessa and returned to Texas after leaving the Navy. His memoir, American Sniper, was turned into a blockbuster film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper. To honor his life and service, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared February 2nd to be Chris Kyle Day, as Breitbart Texas reported.

The trial is scheduled to reconvene on Thursday, with the defense planning to call mental health experts to testify. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty, so Routh is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole, if he is convicted of capital murder. Breitbart Texas will continue to follow this story.

That's been nearly unbelievable. Those fellas underestimated just how freaky he was. I do not think the insanity defense should come rubber stamped or its a bad precedent. It needs to be combed through and challenged on all points and if necessary, more defined legal designations. It can't become the catch-all freebie, this case is a little high profile.

Skowhegan ‘Black Ninja’ burglar gets three years (http://www.centralmaine.com/2015/02/26/skowhegan-black-ninja-burglar-gets-three-years/)
Jonathan Strickland, sentenced to prison for two burglaries, bragged that he couldn't be caught.

SKOWHEGAN — A man sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday for burglaries and theft last year had taunted one of his victims in a note in which he said he was a ‘Black Ninja’ who couldn’t be caught.

Jonathan M. Strickland, 25, of Skowhegan, was convicted on two counts of burglary, two counts of theft — both class C felonies — and his probation was revoked.

Strickland was sentenced to 36 months in prison for the probation revocation and 32 months for the burglaries and thefts, all to run at the same time, Skowhegan Police Chief Ted Blais said Thursday.

Police investigating a burglary at the Pak Lee Chinese Restaurant on Madison Avenue Oct. 16 examined a video that showed the burglar “wearing a distinctive mask” entering the building, Blais said. The mask was made from black fabric with eye slits — Ninja style — he said.

The burglar stole money from the cash register and liquor bottles, he said.

The same day, Skowhegan police responded to another burglary and theft of cash at the nearby Skowhegan State Fairgrounds office, where a note was found saying, “You can’t keep out the Black Ninja,” according to Blais.

“We think he made up the name on his own, at least he never told anybody why he called himself that,” Blais said.

Blais said people in Skowhegan told detectives that Strickland had been calling himself the Black Ninja and had been bragging about committing other burglaries in the area.

Police carried out a search warrant Oct. 23 at Strickland’s apartment and found a Ninja-style mask like the one worn in the Pak Lee burglary along with liquor bottles with the same brand and stickers stolen from the restaurant, Blais said.

The Maine Department of Corrections Division of Adult Community Corrections assisted in the execution of the search warrant, Blais said. Strickland was arrested at that time for a revocation of his probation and had been in jail since his arrest. Strickland was due to be released from probation just weeks before his arrest.

Police found that Joseph Kireburns, 23, of Skowhegan, had also been involved in the Fairgrounds burglary, acting as Strickland’s lookout. Kireburns pleaded guilty to burglary and theft and was sentenced to three years in prison with all but 60 days suspended and two years of probation.

“We must give credit to the public for giving us information,” Blais said.

Real ninjas don't leave notes that can get them busted.

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say a woman with concealed knives and martial arts throwing stars was arrested outside a hospital, and a man who worked there had a protection order against her.

A Canton police report says 51-year-old Regina Lynn Bollerud was waiting outside a door at Mercy Medical Center on Tuesday morning.

The report says Bollerud had two knives concealed on her right wrist, plus two more knives and four throwing stars on her waist. Officers also found four more knives, an auto glass-breaking tool and a bottle of pills in her purse.

She’s been charged with violating the domestic violence protection order, carrying concealed weapons and drug possession.

She’s in jail with a $100,000 bond. Records didn’t say if she had an attorney who could comment on the accusations.

Boston police told the Associated Press they arrested a 65-year-old man whom they believe is the infamous “Brighton Tree Ninja.” For several years, newly planted trees and shrubbery in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood have been damaged, but police were unable to get to the root of the case and find the perpetrator. According to The Boston Globe, police set up surveillance cameras around a parking lot near the Brighton Elks Lodge (the article doesn’t specify if this was a frequent place where the ninja attacked), and eventually caught Joseph Rizza entering the empty lot and attempting to chop a tree down with hammer.

Rizza was charged with five counts of willful and malicious destruction of property and one count possession of a dangerous weapon. According to Gawker, police said in a statement:

This investigation was part of an ongoing operation seeking to identify and apprehend the individual(s) who for several years has been killing trees in the Brighton area and eluded capture. Over the past several years this ‘Brighton Tree Ninja,’ would either chop down or damage beyond saving, young trees that were planted in Brighton.

Allegedly, this wasn’t Rizza’s first time being caught vandalizing trees. According to the Globe, he was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device in March and was given a curfew after being charged with vandalizing a tree in another part of the Brighton neighborhood.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCtrNgKVAAEDkrI.jpg:large

Now, he’s being held on the new charges under a $7,000 bail. But according to Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, Rizza won’t be released for at least 60 days, even if he posts bail, because he violated the conditions of his release in the March case and refused to turn over a new leaf.

Wark praised investigators and good, old-fashioned neighborhood watch for catching this alleged shrub slayer. The neighborhood’s shrubs can photosynthesize peacefully now that, in the words of the Globe, this case as been “nipp[ed] in the bud.”

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCuKtSCVEAA4uGS.jpg

“It started with input from Brighton residents, continued with the strategic deployment of public safety cameras, and resulted in charges that could otherwise have been very challenging to prove,” he told the Globe.

According to the AP, police are investigating Rizza in connection with other tree vandalism over the past several years. If this were a Criminal Minds episode, the agents might say that this perpetrator was acting out — getting more and more reckless in his attacks because he was pining to be caught.

Accused ninja burglar agrees to pay back $1,800 (http://www.koat.com/news/accused-ninja-burglar-agrees-to-pay-back-1800/32494198)
Deal means no jail time for Rashane Jackson
Published 7:52 PM MDT Apr 21, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —A man accused of dressing as a ninja and violently robbing a terminally ill person will not see any jail time, but under his plea deal will have to pay back the money he’s charged with stealing.

The victim in the case, Daniel Levine, said he still hasn’t seen a dime.

“For somebody who doesn't have any money, or a lot of money, that hurt very badly,” said Levine.

Rashane Jackson was charged in the case. Earlier this month, Jackson pleaded no contest in a deal that means he will not serve any jail time. Instead, Jackson will be on probation for the next 10 years and has to pay back the nearly $1,800 he took from Levine’s safe.

Levine agreed to the deal.

“Give him a second shot because he's a young kid. He did a stupid thing,” said Levine.

Levine said he has yet to receive any money, however.

A spokeswoman for the New Mexico Department of Corrections said Jackson’s probation officer will work with him to set up a payment plan based on his income, which usually takes at least a month. She said if Jackson stops making payments, he could go to prison.

As he waits for payment, Levine said his health is only getting worse. He’s counting on the money he says is rightfully his.

Hold the phone....if it's not a ninja star (http://www.martialartsmart.com/16-12pak.html), what is that exactly?

Mum inadvertently buys young daughter ninja star
29th Apr 2015 5:00 AM Updated: 6:49 AM
Maryborough mum Rebecca Sutcliffe was a little concerned when her six-year-old found a toy resembling a ninja star in her juice. (http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/weapon-or-toy/2622047/)

IS it a toy or a weapon?

That is what Maryborough's Rebecca Sutcliffe was left wondering when her daughter Eden Churchill, 6, opened her juice bottle, called a Surprise 5 because of its promise of a toy inside its detachable cup, to find what appeared to them to be a ninja star inside.

When Ms Sutcliffe had bought the juice bottles in the past, the toy had always been something funny or cute - but the star shaped item with serrated metal edges had her thinking of a weapon rather than a children's toy.

Ms Sutcliffe said at first she had thought the toy might be a spinning top and tried to twist it - but it cut into her fingertips with its points.

http://media.apnarm.net.au/img/media/images/2015/04/28/fra29042015toy3-yguxmi34wdgz4aiz2k2_t460.JPG
The toy in question features serrated metal edges.

She said its resemblance to a ninja star was also concerning as it may appear to be a projectile to children - especially since her daughter jokingly threw it toward her after assuming that is what the toy was.

Although instructions on the side of the bottle indicated that the toys were not suitable for children under 3 years of age, Ms Sutcliffe said she was still concerned.

Steel City Beverages, the company that imports the product, were contacted yesterday but did not provide a response by the time of going to press.

Contact was made with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading and a spokesperson said they encouraged parents who were concerned about a toy to make a complaint to their office.

"If possible, the complaint should include a sample of the product," the spokesperson said.

Ms Sutcliffe said she would send the item in to be assessed.

The spokesperson from the Office of Fair Trading said if the toy was found to be unsafe, steps would be taken with the supplier to rectify the problem.

"Depending on which mandatory safety standard requirement is failed, corrective actions might include amended safety warning labelling or the product being removed from sale and recalled," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that toys did not require approval from a governmental agency before they were able to be sold.

"However, the onus is on suppliers to ensure products they supply comply with mandatory safety standards," the spokesperson said.

"Significant penalties can apply where individuals or corporations breach product safety laws."

WEST JORDAN, Utah – One of the women dubbed as part of the “polygamous ninjas” has been sentenced to prison after breaking into a person’s home and trying to interfere with a rape trial.

The judge sentenced 22-year-old Raven Blackwing, also known as Raven Baker or Madeline Baker, to up to 15 years behind bars Thursday.

According to court documents, Blackwing got one-to-15 years for the aggravated burglary last September.

She faces up to five years behind bars for retaliating against a witness in a rape trial and up to five years for the aggravated assault in West Jordan.

However, the judge said Blackwing’s sentences could run concurrently which means she could serve time for all of her offences at the same time.

The judge also gave her credit for the time she has already served behind bars, 223 days.

Authorities said Blackwing and 19-year-old Tylynn Southwick broke into a West Jordan home on Sept. 19 while armed but were subdued by the occupants of the home.

Court documents state the women were armed with a knife, a stun gun, a tourniquet and syringes along with a chemical intended to render someone unconscious when they broke into the home.

The documents state the women lunged at a man inside the home.

Officials said he fought the “polygamous ninja” duo and wound up removing one mask.

Documents state he said he recognized one of the suspects as a woman who had attended court hearings relating to a rape trial.

West Jordan Police said the women were after a witness who was to speak against a male suspect in the rape trial.

The victims said the two women are in a polygamous relationship with that suspect.

Documents state another man in the home heard yelling and came to help.

Authorities said he was able to subdue the two women until police arrived.

A responding officer stated they arrived to see one of the men holding down a suspect later identified as Southwick.

The document states Southwick “…was sitting on the couch dressed in all black, wearing a black mask and black latex gloves. Standing a few feet from [Blackwing] was [first man] holding a samurai sword.”

Georgia man who dressed as Ninja to rob store is convicted (http://onlineathens.com/local-news/2015-08-27/georgia-man-who-dressed-ninja-rob-store-convicted)
By Associated Pressupdated Thursday, August 27, 2015 - 4:39pm

SAVANNAH, Ga. | Authorities say a metro Savannah man who dressed as a Ninja to rob a pizza store has been convicted of armed robbery and assault charges.

The Savannah Morning News reports that a Chatham County jury on Tuesday found 21-year-old Benjamin John Scott guilty of robbing a Garden City Domino's Pizza clerk of $1,000 in June 2014.

Jurors convicted the Garden City man of assaulting the clerk with a blunt object.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Breedon told jurors that the Ninja costume didn't work, since the clerk recognized the suspect's voice because he had worked at the Domino's outlet before robbing it.

Breedon said Scott admitted he had been the bandit but insisted he did not mean to injure the clerk.

Garden City is about five miles northwest of downtown Savannah.
Wonder what the blunt object was...

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- The New Springville man busted earlier this week for having a cache of weapons also threatened a man with a fake gun, police allege.

Anthony Romano, 34, pointed what appeared to be a black assault rifle in the man's side in front of the victim's daughter on Monday evening, according to allegations in court documents.

Romano allegedly threatened the man during a dispute over a cellphone and that prompted a search by police of the home where the suspect lived with his parents, the Daily News reported.

Authorities recovered two gravity knives, 16 kung fu stars, two loaded assault rifles and ammunition that were found in the basement, the criminal complaint says.

The defendant, the complaint says, allegedly told the cops he fired the assault rifle in his backyard back in April.

In another search, police seized 12 air soft pistols and eight air soft rifles. Ten of the air pistols and seven of the air rifles were fake, police said.

Romano, of Bridgetown Street, was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a weapon, disposition, purchase of ammunition feeding devices, endangering welfare of a child, menacing in the second degree, unlawful, sale, possession or use of an imitation pistol, firearms and possession of ammunition, according to a spokesman for Acting District Attorney Daniel Master.

Impromptu Ninja Act Frightens NYC Apple Store (http://www.maxim.com/maxim-man/article/apple-store-samurai-sword-2015-11)

The gauzy utopian peace of the Midtown East Apple Store on 5th Avenue in New York City was shattered Friday by an agitated man wielding a sword. Standing on the spiral staircase, the would-be ninja in a bucket hat drew a samurai sword and advanced until he was on the main floor, scattering customers to the walls. DNAInfo's report on the incident indicated the action didn't stop there:

According to a witness who stood outside the store, the sword-wielding man came outside where he threatened to cut his own neck with the weapon.

"He put the sword to the back of his neck and just held it there," said the 30-year old witness, who declined to give his name. "I've never seen anything like this in my life."

Shortly afterwards the man was taken down by Apple Store security, reported DNAInfo. Appropriately enough, the man was taken to Bellevue for evaluation.

An unnamed store employee told DNAInfo that the man said "I just want an iPhone!" while swinging his sword on the staircase.

We hope the Apple Store ninja gets some much-needed medical help—not jail time—and that in the future he considers ordering his iPhone online.

Ninja Blenders Recalled Due to Laceration Risk (http://www.consumerreports.org/blenders/ninja-blenders-recalled-due-to-laceration-risk)
The blade assembly isn't locked into the container during use

By Daniel DiClerico
Last updated: November 17, 2015
Ninja blenders feature a unique "stacked blade" assembly consisting of multiple sharp blades mounted at different heights inside the container—or "Total Crushing Technology" as the company calls it. Many Ninja blenders do perform very well overall in Consumer Reports' blender tests. The drawback is that the knife-like assembly isn't anchored in any way to the container, raising the risk of laceration. That's led to the announcement from Ninja that, in accordance with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, it is recalling a dozen blender models, following 53 reports of injury.

This recall is different from most in that Ninja isn’t actually telling consumers to stop using their blenders, nor is it issuing a stop sale with retailers. Instead, it's giving customers a revised safety warning.

Specifically, Ninja owners are being told to “empty the blender’s pitcher through the locked lid’s pour spout, or by removing both the lid and the stacked blade assembly from the pitcher before pouring.”

Every Ninja blender we’ve tested features the same stacked-blade assembly, including the Ninja Professional NJ600 blender not listed in the recall. A company representative told to us that manuals for all models will eventually be updated with the same safety warning.

http://static2.consumerreportscdn.org/content/dam/cro/news_articles/appliances/CR-Home-II-Ninja-Blender-11-15.jpg
Ninja Professional NJ600

Ninja is the only manufacturer we know of that uses a blade assembly that isn't locked into the container during use. Its blades are also sharper than many other blenders, especially those with a blunt blade assembly that's designed to pulverize food by spinning at high speeds, rather than slicing through it.

That being said, all blenders can cause injury. Indeed, blender injuries result in thousands of emergency-room visits each year. Many of these injuries occur during washing.

With Ninja blenders, it’s best to use a dishwashing utensil to avoid direct hand contact with the blades; do the same with blenders with removable blade assemblies. When the blade assembly can't be removed, we advise adding soapy water to the container and running the blender until the container and blades are clean, instead of washing by hand.

Police: Men used ‘martial arts throwing star’ in NE Austin stabbing (http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/police-men-used-martial-arts-throwing-star-in-ne-a/nqW33/)
7:23 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 | Filed in: Local

Two men were arrested Monday after they were accused of stabbing each other with a “martial arts throwing star” in Northeast Austin, according to an arrest affidavit.

Kebin Moreno-Ayala, 24, and 19-year-old Henry Franco-Rivera, bumped into each other at the parking lot of a shopping mall at 7309 Cameron Rd. near Coronado Hills Dr. around 7 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

Moreno-Ayala showed Franco-Rivera a weapon that resembles a throwing star that he just had bought and said something like “I can kill anyone here if I want to,” according to the affidavit.

Franco-Rivera left to get some groceries at a nearby store, but when he walked back, he joined Moreno-Ayala and another person to smoke a marijuana joint, police said.

The two men soon started arguing. After the altercation escalated to a shoving match, Moreno-Ayala pulled out his weapon, police said.

Franco-Rivera told police he ran away, but he returned to retrieve his groceries, which he had dropped. He didn’t try to run again — he told police — because he realized he couldn’t outrun Moreno-Ayala. He suffered from stabbing wounds in his left shoulder, chest, wrist and across his face, the affidavit said.

During the struggle, Franco-Rivera ended up with the weapon and began chasing Moreno-Ayala, who tripped and fell, the affidavit shows. Moreno-Ayala apologized, but Franco-Rivera stabbed him anyway, the affidavit said.

When police arrived, officers followed a blood trail to Franco-Rivera’s apartment. The door was open and they saw a black 3-bladed weapon covered in blood on the living room’s floor, the affidavit said.

Moreno-Ayala had a stab wound in his abdomen and an injury from his forehead to the back of his head, the affidavit said.

Travis County Jail records show Moreno-Ayala and Franco-Rivera were in custody Tuesday afternoon with a bail set at $20,000 each.

Ninja stars, daggers among items highlighted in border agency's annual review (http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/ninja-stars-among-items-highlighted-in-border-agencys-annual-review-369737371.html)

Customs officials seized a shipment of lethal ninja stars marked "cutlery," arrested a man for giving immigrants false counselling and intercepted a chemical used to make a date rape drug.

The three items were highlights of the year in review for arrests and seizures by the Canada Border Service Agency in Winnipeg.

http://media.winnipegfreepress.com/images/333*203/Photo+1+-+daggers+-+enclosed+haft+(brass+knuckles).jpg
daggers seized by the Canada Border Services Agency.

The 2015 review was condensed to a single page and listed the most dramatic seizures of contraband and arrests at overland borders and from commercial and passenger arrivals at the James Richardson International Airport.

There were more than 300 contraband seizures, including 151 prohibited weapons and firearms, at the airport, Canadian Border Services reported Monday in its the year-end summary.

The most inventive of the lot was the package destined for an Alberta address marked "Cutlery."

When customs officials opened it, they came across a treasure trove of blades, including 30 five-pointed shurikens and five knifes with push-dagger handles.

Shurikens, also known as Ninja stars, are a traditional Japanese concealed weapon, once as essential to samurai warriors as their swords.

Shurikens are a prohibited weapon in Canada, as are the push-dagger knives seized with them as concealed weapons in the illegal shipment.

The contraband also included 41 narcotics seizures.

In June, officers seized two litres of a liquid known as GBL, a key ingredient in the manufacture of a date rape drug called gamma-hydroxybutyric acid. The shipment came from China and the importer was arrested by Winnipeg police with the assistance of customs officers.

In August, a Winnipeg man, 43, pleaded guilty to counselling immigrants to make false claims but customs officials provided no details Monday on the nature of the claims. The review merely said the guilty plea was related to "counselling misrepresentation" under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The man was handed a fine of nearly $20,000, the review said.

"He was fined $19,502 for his role in aiding up to 42 Canadian permanent residents to provide false information" to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada," the review stated.

In November, another Winnipeg man was sentenced to two years less a day for his role in a multimillion-dollar cross-Canada steroid smuggling and distribution operation.

Fuji for the past 1,000 years, so far the group has been sticking to its publicly professed purpose of spreading knowledge about Japan’s famous shadow warriors and promoting ninja-related tourism.

https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/gs-1.png?w=580&h=464

For its first major project, the Council spearheaded the production of a mobile game titled Ninja King-Ninja Rises, but its newest endeavor is something more traditional. Through a campaign on Japanese crowdfunding site Crowdrive, the Japan Ninja Council is offering throwing stars made of pure silver or gold, crafted one of Japan’s oldest medal-making companies, Matsumoto Kisho.

Measuring nine centimeters (3.54 inches) across, the silver shuriken weighs 25 grams (0.88 ounces)…

https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/gs-2.png?w=580&h=205

…while the identically sized gold version tips the scales at 50 grams.

https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/gs-3.png?w=580&h=205

You might think that such conspicuous luxury runs counter to the understated subterfuge associated with the ninja, but their precious metal-construction has an upside from a legal standpoint. Possession and purchase of ordinary shuriken is heavily regulated under Japan’s Sword and Firearm Control Laws, but the two throwing stars being offered by the Japan Ninja Council are classified as art objects.

Aside from gold’s pliable nature making it a poor choice for weaponry, another obvious reason for the loophole is the cost of the throwing stars. The silver star is priced at 150,000 yen (US$1,340), and if you want to pretend you’re James Bond villain Francisco Scaramanga’s Japanese cousin, the Man with the Golden Shuriken, that’ll cost you 770,000 yen. In other words, no one with the cash to buy these is doing so with the intention of sharpening their edges and throwing them around while robbing the local convenience store.

The shurikens’ Crowdrive campaign can be found here. Since quantities are limited to just 10 stars of each variety, buying a spare probably isn’t an option, so you’ll want to keep yours safely stored and only use it for your most formal ninja social engagements.

Seattle police seek this man, suspected of masturbating multiple times outside a University District home. He was caught on surveillance footage Feb. 7 wearing all black (which appears white in the image), including a wrap around his face and head and toe shoes.

Seattle police trying to identify a masked man believed to have masturbated outside a home of University of Washington students multiple times.
The behavior was first reported Jan. 10, when a woman called 911 to say she just saw a man pleasuring himself outside the front door of her home near the University District intersection of Northeast 52nd Street and 12th Avenue Northeast, according to police.
Responding officers were unable to find the offender.
A surveillance camera installed at the home caught a masturbator at the same home Feb. 7, showing a man covered head to toe in black, save for the two body parts he used to perform his mission, Seattle police reports say.
His clothing included a hood, a wrap around his face and toe shoes. The night vision surveillance footage makes his attire appear white.
The home's residents, all University of Washington students, reported hearing "suspicious" sounds outside the house several times. Detectives believe the man may have visited the home up to four times since November 2015.
Seattle police ask anyone with information about the case or suspect to call 206-684-5575.

'Ninja Burglar' at work in Oakland Hills; person of interest in custody
Henry K. Lee - KTVU reporter Published 12:12 pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2016

On Monday evening, Oakland police told KTVU that a "person of interest," believed to be the person seen in the video, was in custody.

Oakland hills residents called him the "Ninja Burglar." That's because of how he was dressed and what he was seen carrying under his arm.
On Monday evening, Oakland police told KTVU that a "person of interest," believed to be the person seen in the video, was in custody.
KTVU obtained surveillance video showing a man who cased homes in Oakland's Montclair District in the hills for several hours. He's seen carrying something long. Police don't know what it is. Some people think it's a sword.
At about 3 a.m. Thursday, a woman was awakened by her pet cat. She saw a man in her courtyard on a street off Colton Boulevard. He was wearing a black knit cap, dark clothes and carrying a three-foot long object.
The woman says even with three lights that went on, he didn't run. He walked slowly away. Police were called, but they didn't find him.
Even as police were in the area, surveillance video shows the same man continued to lurking around for a couple more hours. At one point, the man stole several bikes, which were loaded into an SUV driven by a second suspect.
Oakland police say they believe the videos will help them make arrests. Officers canvassed the neighborhood Monday in hopes of getting more video.
"Our department, we're confident with this type of evidence we've received, because of technology, that we're able to solve this case," said Officer Marco Marquez, a department spokesman before the person of interest was taken into custody. "It's really a good example of the community coming together, communicating with each other."
Police initially said they didn't know what the man was carrying.
"At this point, we can't determine or say specifically what that is, whether it's a weapon or a burglary tool."
Neighbors were unnerved, but police said it was the videos that helped officers identify and arrest the man.
"I would rather not have anybody like that around me. I have two kids. I don't feel safe at all," said resident Jiyoung Kim as she pushed her young child in a toy stroller.
Michelle Flemmer, who works with clients who live in the hills, agreed. "I'd think I'd be pretty alarmed if I saw that when I was overnight at a client's house and i was there by myself," said Flemmer as she walked two client's dogs on Colton Boulevard.

There's a vid if you follow the link.

STATEN ISLAND — The "Ninja Burglar" has absolutely no training in martial arts.

The revelation was made as Robert Costanzo, 46 apologized to his victims for "all the chaos and destruction" caused when he broke into more than 100 homes during a 10-year crimewave.

"This is going to seem like a silly question, but are you a ninja?" a prosecutor asked him during his confession, a recording of which was acquired by the Staten Island Advance.

"No," he answered.

Costanzo, who will spend 25 years behind bars for the break-in spree, said he hoped his more than 100 victims would understand that he only turned to crime to support his family, according to the taped testimony.

"I only used it as a means of survival as far as financially with my children, my family members that I help support," he said.

"I'm truly sorry for my actions and hope that people can understand and come to terms that I didn't mean anything truly negative by it."

His lawyer, John Stawicki, said after Costanzo's conviction last week that his client returned to a life a crime after he lost his job as an elevator technician. He'd previously been convicted of burglary and rape.

From 2005 to 2015, Costanzo broke into more than 100 homes in Staten Island alone — though officers believe the number to be closer to 160. He was only charged with three of them because of the statue of limitations.

In his taped confession, Costanzo told prosecutors that he couldn't be sure of the number because he never kept a tally of how many homes he targeted.

He usually broke into the home while the owners were inside and wore all black with his face covered, resembling a ninja, District Attorney Michael McMahon said.

The "Ninja Burglar" nickname started after a 2007 burglary where a Dongan Hills resident said he came face to face with a nunchuck-wielding burglar, but police did not tie Costanzo to that crime.

In his confession, Costanzo said he was aware of the name but never used it himself nor was he actually trained as a ninja, he said.

Costanzo is due back in court on June 14 to be officially sentenced.

QUEENS, NY— A man is facing weapons charges after bringing an unusual assortment of weapons, which included three throwing knives, to the LaGuardia Airport, a TSA official said on Monday.

The unnamed New Haven, Connecticut resident was arrested after being stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers at the airport’s check-in area on Saturday.

Several martial arts weapons described as deadly, including three throwing knives, a traditional throwing star, expandable throwing star, as well as a dagger were located after the officers detected weapons among his carry-on items, TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said in a statement.

Port Authority police were called to the scene, and later confiscated the weapons and arrested the man.

The incident did not impact airport operations, but “serves as a reminder that passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the security checkpoint,” Farbstein said.

The TSA advises all passengers to thoroughly check bags before coming to any airport.

An El Paso man allegedly stabbed a SWAT officer in the leg and attacked police with a ninja throwing star during a nearly seven-hour standoff during the weekend, police officials said Monday.

Eliott Charles Alcantar, 27, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant in connection with a SWAT situation that began Friday night at a home in the 10100 block of Buckwood Avenue on the East Side, police said.

About 8:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to a family fight call at the home, officials said. Alcantar was confrontational while speaking with officers, who asked him to come out of the house. While an officer was trying to talk to him, Alcantar allegedly threw a ninja star at her but missed.

The special weapons and tactics team and crisis management negotiators were deployed. During the hours-long standoff, Alcantar repeatedly threatened police with various knives, police said.

About 3:10 a.m. Saturday, Alcantar came out of the home to be taken into custody by SWAT, police said. When officers approached, Alcantar allegedly used a large knife to stab a SWAT officer in the left calf. Other officers took away the knife and Alcantar was arrested.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released.

Alcantar remained jailed Monday under a total bond of $100,000.

Amazed he wasn't shot.

Mbombela - The four “Onderberg Ninjas”, who used guns and samurai swords to terrorise and rob Mpumalanga farmers, have been sentenced to lengthy jail terms.

Moses Silinda, 33, from Mangweni near Komatipoort, and Mozambican nationals Pieto Gwambe, 30, Sam Chauke, 40, and Veins Gavane, 30, were sentenced in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Wednesday.

Gwambe, Chauke and Gavane each pleaded guilty to a charge of being illegally in the country.

Magistrate Andre Geldenhuys found them guilty on all the charges they faced, including armed robbery, assault, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

He sentenced Silinda and Gwambe to 21 years and three months’ imprisonment each, and Chauke and Gavane to 30 years and three months' imprisonment each.

Capture

Local residents, security companies, police, and SA National Defence Force members arrested them on November 23 2011. They were involved in a series of attacks and armed robberies on Malelane and Komatipoort farms.

Prosecutor Isabet Erwee said after their arrest, the crimes stopped.

“The accused were named Onderberg Ninjas because they got hold of firearms and swords. They committed violent armed robberies, and severely assaulted their victims,” Erwee said.

“One of the victims was so traumatised that after the attack, she was forced to leave her farm. They attacked their victims in the early hours of the morning and also during the afternoon, in broad daylight. They planned their attacks well and worked in a group,” said Erwee.

Geldenhuys said one of the victims, gardener Michael Mahlalela, was beaten up so badly he became deaf and was forced to stop working.

They attacked him at his employer’s home on November 5 2011. The expensive household items they stole from his employer were recovered at the three accused's homes in Mozambique.

On the day of their arrest, they attacked Gabriel Strydom and Beatrix Botha in their home in Hectorspruit using a firearm, sword, and bricks. Strydom sustained an open slash wound to his head. They stole his firearm. Geldenhuys said the couple were good citizens who ran a successful business on their farm.

The Strydoms called for help on a two-way radio and their neighbours, police, security companies launched a search, with the help of an SANDF helicopter. Three of the “ninjas” were caught hiding in a densely-wooded area.

Man arrested in Japan for stockpiling throwing stars and knives because he “likes ninja” (http://en.rocketnews24.com/2016/10/20/man-arrested-in-japan-for-stockpiling-throwing-stars-and-knives-because-he-likes-ninja/)

He had the arsenal of Japan’s shadow warriors, but not their stealth.

Shortly before noon on October 7, a municipal police officer on patrol in the coastal town of Joestsu, in Niigata Prefecture, spotted a car parked in a vacant lot. As he approached to investigate, he noticed the vehicle was occupied, by a 58-year-old man who was sleeping inside it.

The officer woke the man to ask him who he was and why he was sleeping in the lot. He identified himself as an employee of a company located in the city, but during the course of the conversation, the officer noticed a collection of bladed instruments inside the vehicle. Dozens of them, actually, and not just knives, but shuriken (throwing stars) as well.

In addition to strict gun control laws, Japan also has regulations regarding the possession and transport of blades, and so the man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law. During questioning, he told the authorities that he’d purchased the knives from military paraphernalia shops or through mail order services. As for the shuriken, he hand-crafted them himself by repurposing lawn mower blades, so that he could throw them for his own amusement.

When asked by the authorities just what he was doing with such a large arsenal of bladed weaponry, the man simply said:

“I like ninja.”

Look, we get it. Ninja are undeniably cool, and if liking them was a crime, at least half of the people who work for RocketNews24 would be in jail right now. But while the cops have no problems with you dressing up as a shinobi for Halloween or attending the Ninja Academy, they do take issue with arming yourself like you’re getting ready to go to war with the Koga Clan. The statement from the police indicates that they seized approximately 170 knives and shuriken, because really, once your in-car stash of ninja weapons passes 100 pieces, the exact number doesn’t really matter so much anymore; the police have all the evidence they need.

Truly, the moral of this story is to leave the ninja lifestyle to the professionals.

The vehicle was reportedly found on Fourth Avenue in Greenport about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Kahlil McMoore, 17, was found a short time later on Moore’s Lane in the village and was arrested. Police discovered he was in possession of the star, which classifies as a weapon.

The teen was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors, police said.

A Utah man who has three wives and forced them to call him “Lord” has been charged for allegedly deploying two of them, dressed as ninjas, to try killing a teenager he sexually abused.

Kain Blackwing, 47, faces new charges for allegedly plotting the slaying of a girl he was already convicted of abusing.

Blackwing’s initial conviction came in 2014, when the girl was 14, according to KSL.

Four days before the girl was supposed to testify in court against Blackwing, two women dressed as ninjas — wearing black masks and guns, and armed with a stun gun, knife, screwdriver, matches, syringes and Saran wrap — broke into the girl’s West Jordan home.

The girl was staying there with her mother and the mother’s fiancé, who is Blackwing’s half-brother.

The couple fought off the so-called “polygamist ninjas,” with the fiancé using a sword in the household combat.

“She came at me with a stun gun, and I instinctively blocked it with my arm, and I hit her in the head, then proceeded to jump on top of her,” the fiancé recalled to KUTV about one of the ninjas.

“I grabbed my sword on the mantle, unsheathed it and told her to sit down, that if she moved, she would lose body parts,” he said.

The two ninjas turned out to be Raven Blackwing, 22, and a 19-year-old woman — both “sister-wives” of Blackwing. The engaged couple told police they recognized the attackers, even with the ninja disguises.

Raven Blackwing, one of the "sister-wives." (POLICE HANDOUT)

The ninjas told police Blackwing instructed them to kill the girl because he believed “the authorities would have to release him” if she died, charging documents say. They plotted the attempted murder for 11 weeks, using a code where the killing was called “playing a video game.” They referred to their targets with names like “Juggernaut," “Boss” and "Guards."

Both sister-wives were convicted of charges for aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and retaliation against a witness or victim. The teenage sister-wife was sentenced to probation, and Raven Blackwing was sentenced to up to 15 years in Utah State Prison.

New charges for Blackwing, who is already in jail, arrived Thursday. He was charged with solicitation for aggravated murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder — all felonies.

Blackwing is already embroiled in yet another pending case against him for his relationship with the younger sister-wife convicted for the attempted murder.

He met that woman when she was 17 and started a sexual relationship with her, police said. Blackwing allegedly told the woman to call him “Lord” and that “if he ever bonded with a woman she became his and the only way out of the relationship was death,” charging documents state.

He eventually claimed her as one of his wives.

For that case, Blackwing faces charges of rape, forcible sodomy and forcible sexual abuse, and he is scheduled for a court hearing Feb. 28.

One of her classmates was apparently playing with the sharp object, which has been desribed as a toy. The blade was removed from the girl's skull after an hour-long operation

Wenwen was taken to the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine immediately.

The school also informed Wenwen's parents.

Dr Shen Zhipeng, a neurosurgeon, told a reporter: 'The ninja star is made of metal and it certainly does not look like a children's toy.'

Dr Shen did a computerised tomography (CT) scan for Wenwen. The scan confirmed that the blade had been stuck in Wenwen's skull for about two centimetres.

'We provided two suggestions to the parents. One was surgical debridement, which is to pull out the ninja star directly; and the other was craniotomy, which is to open the skull and carry out a thorough inspection,' said Dr Shen.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/06/09/13/414209A300000578-4587982-The_5_1_inch_long_four_point_ninja_star_is_believe d_to_be_inspir-m-33_1497011350500.jpg
The ninja star measures about 13 centimetres (5.1 inches) from one point to the opposite end

Wenwen's parents chose to have the ninja star pulled out directly.

Surgeons successfully removed the sharp object after performing an hour-long operation.

The ninja star has four blades and measures about 13 centimetres (5.1 inches) from one point to the opposite end.

Dr Shen explained that the blade had impaled the skull and reached the cerebrospinal fluid, a protective layer of tissue below the skull.

Wenwen is expected fully recover in three to five days if no infection is caused by the surgery, according to Dr Shen.

Ninja star is said to be popular among pupils at Wenwen's school. The shape of the particular ninja star is said to be inspired by popular Japanese manga Naruto.

Taobao.com, a Chinese e-commerce platform, sells similar ninja stars as toys.

Sellers claim the metal toy is suitable for anyone over 14 years old.

A ninja star toy sells for about 19.80 yuan (£2.29) on Taobao.

The report claimed that ninja star toys are usually not sharpened.

However, it's hard for authorities to inspect whether or not the buyers would sharpen the toys by themselves, as it's understood.

The "ninjas" who allegedly set an apartment building on fire on Newark. Newark Police Department

A pair of firebug ‘ninjas’ broke into a Newark apartment building and began setting fires inside a second-floor home, Newark police said.

The arsonists — wearing black ski masks and full ninja-style outfits — sauntered into the new Cherry Park Apartments on Sylvan Avenue through the front door around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, police said.

They rode the elevator to the second floor, where they made their way to an empty apartment without forced entry and started setting fires, NBC News 4 reported.

The stealthy pyromaniacs were able to slip out through a side door.

Witnesses told the news outlet they saw flames coming from a window of the building, and then saw two people clad in black walking away from the area.

No one was reportedly injured.

This has spread across the newsfeed as a ninja just because he's dressed in black, but he doesn't look all that ninja-esque to me. Real ninjas wear ninja suits (http://www.martialartsmart.com/16-01.html). ;)

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WJAR) —
A store owner in Fall River fought back when a man dressed as a ninja tried to rob him as customers, including a child, were trying to leave.
The attempted robbery happened Monday night at The Farm Market on Cherry Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, the owner said the suspect attacked him with a metal baton.
Store surveillance video shows the owner warding off the would-be thief, who was dressed in all black and wearing a mask, with a two-by-four stashed next to the register. He then chased the crook before out of the store and down the block.
“The first thing he said was, ‘give me the money,’ in a tough way,” Ahmad Abdulrahman, who owns the Farm Market, told NBC 10 News. “After I hit him, (he said,) ‘Oh please, just give me the money.’ OK. Take this then.”
Abdulrahman, who said he wasn’t scared. He survived the Syrian Civil War and is prepared to defend himself, as he said the neighborhood the store is in tends to get “wild and crazy” at times.
“At the beginning, I was afraid to hurt him -- then I would be liable,” Abdulrahman said. “Then they told me, ‘No, he’s in your house. You can kill him. Now I know it.’”
Abdulrahman said he hopes other criminals heed the warning on the front door, which asks customers not to wear, hoods, scarves, hats or sunglasses in the store. He also has a message for potential thieves.
"If you want to start something, be sure you’re going to accomplish it or don’t start it at all," he said.
While suspect left empty-handed, police are following leads based on the surveillance footage. No arrests have been made.

Japanese police say they have finally caught a prolific thief who dressed as a ninja to carry out raids - and were surprised to find he was 74.
After his usually covered face was caught on a security camera this year, he was put under surveillance which led to his arrest in July.
Police now believe he is the so-called "Ninja of Heisei", thought to have carried out more than 250 break-ins.
He has been charged with thefts worth 30m yen ($260,000; £200,000).
Police had been baffled by a series of burglaries over eight years carried out by a suspect wearing black, assuming they had been carried out by someone younger.
Investigators observed the suspect, whom they say seemed little different from most elderly men, during the day.
But they say he then went into an abandoned building and changed clothes before waiting until it got dark to steal.
"He was dressed all in black just like a ninja," a senior official in the western Japanese city of Osaka said.
Police said the thief displayed great physical ability, running effortlessly on top of walls instead of taking the streets.
After his arrest, the man was quoted as saying: "If I were younger, I wouldn't have been caught. I'll quit now as I'm 74 and old enough."

Nasim Najafi Aghdam takes part in an animal rights protest outside Camp Pendleton in 2009. (Charlie Neuman / San Diego Union-Tribune)

In one video, Nasim Najafi Aghdam refers to herself as a "ninja" before making a series of odd, stunted motions spliced between clips from the reality series "America's Got Talent." In another video, she sports a blond pixie-cut wig while mocking people who choose to eat meat.

Police are still trying to determine exactly what led the 39-year-old San Diego woman to bring a gun to YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., where she shot and wounded three people Tuesday before killing herself. But the woman's fury with YouTube — which she believed was intentionally suppressing her quirky collection of dance, recipe and exercise clips — has emerged as the most likely motive, San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini told reporters Wednesday morning.

As the investigation unfolded Wednesday morning, questions lingered about what, if any, chance law enforcement officials might have had to intervene before the attack. Some family members have said they told police she was angry with YouTube and might have planned on traveling to the company's headquarters when they filed a missing person's report earlier this week.

Few of Aghdam's videos remain available online, as her Facebook and Instagram accounts were deactivated within hours of the shootings. Her personal website, titled "Nasime Sabz," which roughly translates to "green breeze" or "Nasim the green" also vanished. Aghdam's YouTube account had been shut down "due to multiple or severe violations" of the company's policies, but it was unclear when that ban took effect.

Nearly four dozen of Aghdam's videos remained viewable on the website Daily Motion until they were removed Wednesday morning. The footage is a strange pastiche of parody clips, workout videos and vegan recipe suggestions, many of which are flagged by a warning not to steal her content.

Pulsing electronic music plays in the background of several of the clips, as Aghdam stares expressionless at the camera, almost giving off the vibe of a nervous karaoke performance. She sometimes refers to herself as a "vegan athlete" before flexing muscles and launching into a series of pushups. In one video, she can been seen dancing and wearing a sheep mask in front of a picture of a frowning cow before the words "Go Vegan, Go Healthy & Humane" appear across the screen.

In a screed posted to a website that has become a subject of the investigation, Aghdam complained that YouTube employees had purposefully limited the number of people who viewed her videos, and criticized the practice of paying for "likes" and views on other social media platforms such as Instagram.

Her complaints about unfair compensation were similar to those of some YouTube creators who have publicly criticized the platform.

"There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!" she wrote.

About two weeks ago, Aghdam vented to her family that YouTube had stopped compensating her for her videos, her father told the Bay Area News Group. Ismail Aghdam said the family had called police Monday to report his daughter missing because she hadn't answered her phone for two days. He said he told police she might be going to YouTube because she "hated" the company.

A family member, who would not give her name, said Aghdam had been angry with YouTube for nearly a year because she felt the company was keeping her from spreading a message promoting a vegan lifestyle. Relatives called police to warn them about her frustrations.

"They said she was angry at YouTube, so be careful," the woman said, adding that police promised they would monitor Aghdam, "but they didn't."

"I'm so sorry for those people [she] shot," the woman said as she made her way through a throng of reporters to visit the family in Menifee, in Riverside County.

Aghdam entered the country as a refugee roughly two decades ago, the woman said, but would not say from where. In social media posts, Aghdam described herself as Iranian.

Lt. Karen Stubkjaer, the media relations director for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, confirmed that a deputy took a missing persons report from Ismail Aghdam and entered that information into a national missing persons database on April 2. Stubkjaer would not confirm the father's account that he warned the Sheriff's Department about his daughter's anger toward YouTube, and did not answer additional questions about the incident.

Mountain View, Calif., police made contact with Aghdam about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, roughly 12 hours before the shooting, when they found her sleeping in a car with a license plate connected to the missing persons report. Officers contacted the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which described Aghdam as "at risk" because she had never gone missing before, according to a statement issued by the Mountain View Police Department.

Aghdam told police she had left home due to family issues and was living out of her vehicle until she found a job. She did not "mention anything about YouTube, if she was upset with them, or that she had planned to harm herself or others," according to the statement.

"Throughout our entire interaction with her, she was calm and cooperative," the statement read.

Mountain View Police contacted Aghdam's father and brother after talking with her. The department said her relatives did not mention a potential threat against YouTube or the fact that Aghdam may have been armed. An hour later, Ismail Aghdam called police again to say that his daughter was upset that YouTube had "done something" to her videos, adding that the change might have been connected to her trip to the Bay Area.

"At no point did her father or brother mention anything about potential acts of violence or a possibility of Aghdam lashing out as a result of her issues with her videos," the statement read. "They remained calm throughout this second phone call."

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Barberini said police were executing search warrants at two Southern California residences connected to Aghdam. Agents with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were helping serve search warrants at several locations, including San Diego and Menifee. The warrants were obtained by the San Bruno Police Department, but the ATF was involved because of the "nexus of firearms," said Ginger Colbrun, ATF spokeswoman for Southern California.

Barberini said police were also searching Aghdam's vehicle. Aghdam apparently went to a local gun range and fired the weapon used in the attack on Tuesday morning, Barberini said. He described the weapon as a Smith & Wesson 9-millimeter handgun, which Aghdam was legally allowed to possess.

Barberini said she entered the YouTube campus through a parking garage, after parking her vehicle near a business close to the company's headquarters. Police have not established a specific link between Aghdam and the victims in Tuesday's shooting, and it was unclear if she shot randomly when she opened fire in the courtyard.

Two of the victims have been released from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, according to a statement issued by the hospital. A third victim, identified only as a male in his 30s, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Foruzan Ghodrattolah, Aghdam's uncle, said he was shocked when he learned what his niece had done. Aghdam had dedicated her life to animals, according to her uncle, who said if she found an insect in her home she would not harm it.

"She would always take the insect outside and free it," Ghodrattolah said.

Were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Houston recently?

TSA posted a photo on Instagram of a pair of martial arts weapons found by agents on April 25 with the caption: "Raphael was so excited when he heard he could carry a pepperoni and pickles pizza that he forgot all about his twin sai. Raph was on his way to an all you can eat buffet. #TMNT"

TSA wrote that the sai were discovered in a carry-on bag at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Martial arts weapons are allowed on planes, TSA wrote, but they must be packed in checked bags only.

For the uninitiated, sai were made famous by Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The weapons have a long pointed tip, with two smaller protruding points near the handle.

The TSA did not report finding any katanas, bos, nunchucks or other evidence of Ninja Turtles coming through Houston.

JEFFERSON CITY - Prosecutors charged a man on Wednesday with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest after he allegedly swung a sword near some people.

According to police, Crystopher Wright got into an argument with a group of people Wednesday afternoon on Madison Street. At the time Wright reportedly had a "ninja style sword," which he unsheathed as he walked toward the group.

The probable cause statement said Wright then "began to swing the sword around aggressively doing 'ninja style moves.'"

When police arrived, officers said Wright refused to put the sword down, despite their repeated commands. An officer used a Taser on Wright, and police took him into custody without further incident.

Thought you couldn't see ninja style moves. Cuz they're ninjas (http://www.martialartsmart.com/ninja-styles.html). :p

An Annapolis City Council member is cautioning constituents after a Ward 1 resident reported seeing a burglar dressed like a ninja.

Alderwoman Elly Tierney, D-Ward 1, sent a message to residents advising they secure windows and doors at their homes following the incident.

Tierney cautioned residents after police spokeswoman Sgt. Amy Miguez alerted her to the incident, which took place on the 100 block of East Street, between 6 p.m. Monday and 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.

An East Street resident said her dog started growling outside her home. She checked inside and found some of her belongings had been moved.

She checked a closet and discovered an intruder with a shotgun dressed in black spandex with a black and neon green cloth around his neck.

The woman told police the man looked “like a ninja,” police said.

She ran from her home and called police. The suspect also ran.

Police said the suspect is a black male between 6’ 1” and 6’ 5” and 200 to 220 pounds. He has a black beard and bushy hair, police said.

The man may have entered the woman’s home through an unlocked window or door.

Ninja burglar arrested in Japan, brags to police about how much he can bench press (https://soranews24.com/2019/01/27/ninja-burglar-arrested-in-japan-brags-to-police-about-how-much-he-can-bench-press/)
Casey Baseel 4 days ago

Do you even burgle, bro?

As someone who likes to exercise, I know it can be fun, and motivating too, to trade notes with someone else about your fitness routine. You might learn a new stretch or lift, and having some sort of numeric data to compare with others can help you gauge how well your own program is working.

But there are, of course, people who take it too far, and try to work ego-boosting mentions of their physical prowess into every conversation. For example, 42-year-old Osaka resident Kazuki Nishimura recently boasted that he can bench press 120 kilograms (264 pounds), which is an impressive feat, especially for a man of his age. Unfortunately, the person he was talking to was a police investigator, who was questioning Nishimura following his arrest for a string of burglaries.

▼ Justice, being blind, isn’t impressed by your pecs.
https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2019/01/nb-2.png?w=640&h=393

Nishimura, who has admitted to the charges, is accused of a total of 27 successful and attempted robberies that took place between April 2017 and October 2018, targeting multiple offices and restaurants in Osaka. His M.O. was to climb to the top of the buildings, scaling up fire escapes, fences, and external air conditioning ducts, and then break in through windows or doors on the roof, where his breaking and entering was less likely to be seen or heard than at street level. Once inside, he would use a crowbar to open up safes and lockboxes, with the estimated haul over the 18-month period being 9.45 million yen (US$85,135) in cash and product vouchers.

▼ Investigators have yet to convert the monetary amount into its equivalent number of protein shakes.
https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2019/01/nb-3.png?w=640&h=426

Because of the mix of stealth and agility employed, investigators began calling the suspect “a ninja.” However, Nishimura didn’t always live up to the aura of capable coolness his nickname suggests. During a failed robbery in August of 2017, Nishimura dropped his home key at the crime scene, which the Osaka Prefectural Police found and used to eventually identify him as a suspect, and even allowed them to determine the gym where he worked out.

However, it wasn’t until October 2018, when Nishimura was caught in the act exiting a building he’d broken into and stolen 670,000 yen in cash from, that he was finally arrested, with the Osaka Prefectural Police announcing the details this week as his trial date approaches. During his questioning, Nishimura told investigators “I’m confident in my physical strength. I can bench press 120 kilos, and I can climb to the top of a five-story building in one minute.”

Nishimura, who has no official employment, also told the investigators “I committed the robberies. I did it for living expenses,” making his conviction almost certain, so now probably all he can do is hope whichever correctional facility he ends up in at least has a gym.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A police raid on a Great Kills home landed a couple in handcuffs and netted more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition, an electric stun gun, an imitation pistol and kung-fu stars, authorities allege.

The arrests came a week after the woman’s son was charged in a separate raid.

Patricia Labarca, 58, and Gary Dibenedetto, 60, were arrested on Feb. 28 after police executed a search warrant at their home on the 300 block of Brookfield Avenue.

Police found a large amount of ammunition in a storage closet beneath the stairs, including more than 2,000 rounds for shotguns, handguns and long rifles, according to the criminal complaint.

They also found three kung-fu stars, an imitation pistol and an electric stun gun in the closet, the complaint alleges.

The NYPD touted the arrests on Twitter, highlighting the efforts of a K-9 named after slain Police Officer Russel Timoshenko.

Labarca and Dibenedetto, who, according to a source are boyfriend and girlfriend, are charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of an imitation pistol and possession of ammunition.

Dibenedetto’s name also appears in court documents as Debenedetto.

Labarca also has an open case from Feb. 21, when she was arrested for allegedly throwing keys into Dibenedetto’s face. Police found four straws with cocaine residue in her purse, according to that complaint.

In that case she is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Dibenedetto’s lawyer, Yan Katsnelson, said the items were discovered in a part of the residence that was not inhabited by his client.

“Mr. Dibenedetto had no knowledge of the items found," Katsnelson said. “He had no control or possession of the items.”

A message left for Labarca’s attorney was not immediately returned.

SON CHARGED SEPARATELY

In a twist, Labarca’s son, Ted Labarca, faces charges of his own stemming from a separate raid of his Arden Heights home on Feb. 21, which, authorities allege, garnered approximately 120 bullets and drugs.

Police found 45 films of buprenorphine, which is used to treat addiction, 52 pills of the sedative alprazolam and a plastic bag of cocaine at various spots in his Arden Avenue home, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

Cops allegedly seized 37 rounds of .223 ammunition from a window sill. Inside boxes on a shelf, officers allegedly found 57 .223 rounds and 26 .20-gauge cartridges, according to the complaint.

Metal knuckles allegedly were spotted on a table counter and an imitation black pistol was recovered from a window sill.

Ted Labarca had 10 pills/films of buprenorphine on him when he was searched at the 123rd Precinct stationhouse in Tottenville, according to the complaint.

Charges against that suspect include criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful sale, possession or use of an imitation pistol and possession of ammunition, according to the criminal complaint.

Note that this is Staten Island a.k.a. Shaolin. I rest my case.

Jaylyn Franklin appears in an Anchorage courtroom on March 18, 2019.

Jaylyn Franklin, 22, is pleading guilty to murder for his role in the 2016 Christmas Eve shooting deaths of 38-year-old Christopher Brooks and his 32-year-old wife Danielle Brooks.

When police arrived on the scene, Danielle’s 5-year-old son told officers that “ninjas” had killed his family.

Police don't believe Franklin shot either victim. They say the case started when Franklin joined then-22-year-old Lamarkus Jayqwann Mann and then-19-year-old Deanthony Malik Harris in going to the Brooks’ home in order to steal drugs and money from them.

The charges allege that the trio broke into the home wearing T-shirts over their faces.

During the robbery, detectives say, Mann shot Danielle and then Christopher was shot after a struggle over the gun. Danielle died inside the home. Christopher made it outside, but later died at the hospital.

Anchorage police say Christmas Eve was the deadliest day of 2016, with three homicides in less than 24 hours.

Under the plea deal, Franklin agrees to plead guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, each of which carries a sentence of 40 years, for a total of 80 years to serve.

Philippines ‘ninja cop’ scandal threatens to ruin acting police chief Archie Gamboa’s bid for top post (https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3034100/philippines-ninja-cop-scandal-threatens-ruin-acting-police-chief)
Gamboa has been accused of only suspending the team leader of the disgraced policemen, despite a recommendation for his sacking
The term ‘ninja cops’ refers to 13 officers accused of stealing and reselling drugs seized in a bust, among other crimes

Fallout from the “ninja cops” scandal, which forced the resignation of Philippine National Police (PNP) director general Oscar Albayalde, is now threatening to ruin acting PNP chief Archie Gamboa’s chances of clinching the top post.
As officer-in-charge until Albayalde’s permanent successor is named by President Rodrigo Duterte next month, Lieutenant General Gamboa has swiftly moved to refurbish the tarnished image of the police force in a bid to get the president’s nod.
On Monday, he directed the Philippine police to file drug and graft charges against Albayalde over the former chief’s alleged role in the ninja cops affair – the 2013 drug bust in Pampanga province by 13 policemen who were later accused of stealing and reselling most of the seized drugs, and freeing the main suspect for a payment of 50 million pesos (US$965,000).
Albayalde – who was the ninja cops’ immediate superior at the time – has been accused by three retired senior police officers of receiving money from the drug sale and protecting the policemen involved from getting sacked.
Gamboa on Monday also announced that upon the recommendation of the police’s internal affairs service (PNP-IAS), he was dismissing three of the 13 ninja cops from service and suspending a fourth, Lieutenant Joven de Guzman Jnr, for 59 days.

However, the acting chief’s statement did not sit well with PNP-IAS head Alfegar Triambulo, who disclosed on national television that the internal affairs decision had actually recommended the sacking of all four policemen – and that Gamboa had rejected the dismissal of de Guzman Jnr, the team leader, who “had actually committed a graver offence”.

The act of one is the act of all, that’s why dismissal was the … recommendation for all
PNP-IAS head Alfegar Triambulo
“What [Gamboa] said, that PNP-IAS only recommended a 59-day suspension for Lieutenant Joven de Guzman Jnr … is not true,” Triambulo said in a separate interview, adding that the four policemen were found to have conspired in the affair. “The act of one is the act of all, that’s why dismissal was the … recommendation for all.”
The PNP-IAS head also stressed that the disciplinary action imposed on the four policemen had nothing to do with the ninja cop scandal, but with a new case that took place in Antipolo City, Rizal province this May.
Triambulo said the Antipolo City case saw the four ninja cops use the same modus operandi as 2013. Along with three other policemen, they confronted a suspect whom they shot at as he escaped. They then went to his house, planted drugs and conducted a buy-bust operation.
He said team leader de Guzman Jnr was present in May when the seven policemen “committed many violations, not only administrative misconduct but it amounts to criminal offence because there was a violation of domicile [illegal search] and planting of evidence”.
In light of this, Triambulo questioned Gamboa’s decision to only suspend de Guzman Jnr, while adding that he respected and admired the acting chief.
A senior police official who spoke to the South China Morning Post on condition of anonymity said the morale of the entire force was “very low” and the ninja cop case had “a very big effect on the entire organisation”.
He said he could not tell whether Albayalde was guilty. “I think there is no case against him. Maybe he was just too helpful to others. Instead of dismissal, it became demotion. There was punishment but that is not appreciated by those in the Senate,” the official said.

If they feel they have a case against anyone, then they can file, and let the law take its course
Former PNP chief Oscar Albayalde
Senator Richard Gordon, who led the probe on the ninja cop case, said Albayalde was possibly facing a life term if found guilty of the charges.
For his part, Albayalde welcomed the move. “If they feel they have a case against anyone, then they can file, and let the law take its course,” he told local reporters.
No senior police officer from the rank of major and above has ever been convicted, according to police spokesman Bernard Banac.
The senior police official explained that this was because a criminal case needed to be built beyond reasonable doubt, while the PNP tends to use administrative cases – which only require substantial evidence – “against erring cops, to remove them from the service”.
With two weeks to go before Duterte appoints a new police chief, department of interior and local government secretary Eduardo Año has announced three front runners: Gamboa, Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan and Major General Guillermo Eleazar.
Gamboa and Cascolan both graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1986, along with Albayalde and current senator Ronald de la Rosa. Eleazar graduated from the academy a year later.

It's a shame that ninjas have earned a negative label, especially with dirty cops. :o

TSA Full of Naruto References After Finding Ninja Kunai in Bag at Airport (https://nextshark.com/tsa-full-of-naruto-references-after-finding-ninja-kunai-in-bag-at-airport/)

Security agents at Spokane International Airport (GEG) in Washington state confiscated a pair of ninja throwing knives from a passenger earlier this week.

The knives, also known as kunai, were discovered in the passenger’s carry-on bags, which should not contain certain sharp objects.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) poked fun at the incident with “Naruto” references, saying the passenger “forgot the rules outside of the Hidden Leaf Village” and ended up “obviously late for their Chunin exams.”

“This is no genjutsu, keen eyed officers at Spokane International Airport (GEG) discovered these kunai in the passenger’s carry-on bags. Genin or not, throwing knives must be packed in your checked bags,” TSA said. “We also recommend checking with your state and local laws regarding traveling with kunai as they may be illegal in your state.”

GEG passengers have a history of forgetting weapons in their carry-on bags. Between February and March of last year, TSA officers confiscated nine guns that were loaded, according to KREM 2 News.

At least 10 guns a year have reportedly been taken in the airport since 2014. Firearm confiscations peaked in 2017 at 26.

Whether the passenger’s kunai were real or whether they had another set stored safely in their checked luggage is unknown. Regardless, TSA was clear in its message, which easily won “Naruto” fans over.

“Love the ‘Naruto’ reference! Whoever creates this post for TSA needs a raise,” one wrote in the comments.

The throwing knives were turned over to local police, TSA said.

Kern County Sheriff's Office

It seems unlikely, but it did indeed happen: A man "wearing full ninja garb" attacked members of a U.S. Army special operations unit in the middle of the night in the California desert, setting off a scramble for safety and resulting in at least two injuries, according to police and other records.

The incident occurred a little after 1 a.m. on Sept. 18, when authorities in Ridgecrest, Calif., got word of a sword-wielding man dressed as a ninja on the loose at the Inyokern Airport in Kern County, north of Los Angeles.

Kern County sheriff's deputies found "the suspect had assaulted a victim at the scene with a sword, and thrown a rock through a hangar window, hitting an additional victim in the head," the sheriff's office said on Friday.

The attack came without any warning

The victims are members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), according to the Stars and Stripes newspaper, which states that the military personnel were at the airport as part of training exercises.

The incident report quickly drew attention after it was posted on Instagram. It describes how a staff sergeant was smoking a late-night cigarette near an airport hangar when "an unknown person wearing full ninja garb" approached him with a question.

"Do you know who I am?" the man asked. The sergeant said he did not. "Do you know where my family is?" the man asked. When the sergeant said he did not know, "the person in ninja garb began to slash" at him with a katana sword, the report states, adding that the sergeant's leg and phone were struck.

The sergeant ran, jumped a fence and reached a building where he joined others from his company. As he and a captain locked the doors and called 911, the assailant kicked and punched doors and windows, according to the report, which has redacted the service members' names.

The Ridgecrest Police Department's blotter entry from that night says a report came in at 1:19 a.m. of a suspect in a ninja outfit, complete with a sword, at Inyokern Airport. The report cited "at least one victim." More than 20 minutes after the initial contact, the blotter says, a 911 call came in from someone at the airport saying 26 special operations military members were "hunkered down in a hanger [sic] wondering where help is."

The ninja did not obey deputies' orders

Police officers located the ninja suspect on a nearby road. But the man "refused to follow commands and brandished the sword at deputies," the sheriff's office said. Projectile rounds were used "but were ineffective," it added. Instead, the man ran. When deputies used a Taser on him, he dropped the sword, and deputies were able to take him into custody. He was identified as Gino Rivera, 35.

Rivera was arrested "for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon, brandishing a weapon with the intent to resist or prevent an arrest," along with vandalism and obstructing or delaying a peace officer in the performance of their duties, the sheriff's office said.

Both the sergeant and the captain required stitches for their wounds but were cleared to return to duty, the incident report says.

The 160th SOAR's missions include using helicopters to insert Navy SEAL teams and other special operators. It trains for night missions, as some of its operations take place under cover of darkness or in the very early morning. The soldiers in Inyokern were attached to the regiment's 2nd Battalion, which uses Chinook and Black Hawk assault helicopters as well as Gray Eagle drones. The battalion is based at Fort Campbell, Ky.

I'm guessing a lot of us have a collection like this...:o

They are so strict about weapons that you better not even leave a nail file on your dashboard. One time they were rifling through my car and found some pepper spray (which is the same brand of bear spray that's sold up there). He said "what do you need this for?" and said: to keep dogs away when I'm jogging in the morning. He then said "What! You would use this on a poor puppy???" Then he shouted to his helpers: Empty out that car!!!

Quite to opposite happened when I was pulled over for speeding on the 101. I told the CHP officer I would have to get my registration out of the glove box and when I opened it some ninja stars fell out on the floor. He just laughed and didn't say anything about it...

'Cajun Ninja' leaps from Krewe of Mardi Gras float to argue with man in crowd (https://www.houmatoday.com/story/news/local/2024/02/10/cajun-ninja-leaps-from-mardi-gras-float-argues-with-man-in-crowd/72557992007/)

The "Cajun Ninja," grand marshal of the Krewe of Mardi Gras, leapt off his float and got into an argument with a member of the crowd.

Frankie Duplantis, a parade goer, shouted expletives and told Jason Derouen, an internet personality known for videos of cooking on social media under the name "Cajun Ninja" that he couldn't cook at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

https://www.houmatoday.com/gcdn/authoring/authoring-images/2024/02/11/NCOU/72558214007-20240210-203122.jpg?width=660&height=495&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp
Jason Derouen, "The Cajun Ninja," leapt from his float to argue with a man in the crowd who insulted his cooking, Saturday, February 10, during the Krewe of Mardi Gras parade. Derouen is the Grand Marshal.

"Because I said he wasn't a real cook," Duplantis said.

The internet personality jumped off a float. and another crowd member, who would not give his name, held the two men apart.

Members of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office got involved, and the internet star got back on his float.

The parade was at a stop while the royalty was toasting, and a short time later Derouen's wife, Misty, gave Duplantis the middle finger. Deputies told her to stop, and she responded.

"What? They can do it to us and we can't," she said. The deputy again told her to stop, and she said, "That's okay, I'll tell Joe Waitz."

Waitz is the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney.

Edde Raes also was standing near Duplantis when Derouen leapt from the float. He said he wasn't a fan of Derouen's cooking, but that Duplantis's heckling was excessive.

"He kept yelling, 'F---you, f--- you,'" Raes said. "The old man kept talking s---, and that's not right."

Questioned about the incident, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet, who was riding about two blocks ahead of the grand marshal's float, said he would collect the reports from his deputies and decide what actions to take.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the fiy-o.
