That is like in that Seinfeld episode where he started running before the gun went off and beat the guy in a race twice.

Since he has the ability to punch and kick, then there is no doubt in my mind that he can fight.

seriously tho, what is he demonstrating? That if your opponent is standing there and you push with an elbow with all your bodyweight behind it that your opponent will go flying backward? HOLY CRAP THIS IS HIGH LEVEL STUFF RIGHT HERE

SanHeChuan

Since he has the ability to punch and kick, then there is no doubt in my mind that he can fight.

The question implies that he can fight well. Every able bodied person can punch and kick. Not everyone can punch and kick well. Just like not everyone who can punch and kick well can fight well.

The dude obviously has some skill, but can that skill be applied against someone trying to wreck him? So far we have seen nothing to indicate his ability to apply those skills against a resisting opponent let alone fighting ability. Puts on a decent demo though. ;)

looks strong, and i wouldn't want to be struck by him, but those throws didn't impress me. jumping in on the guy from that distant ,gives a guy a lot of time to react, i'd put my judo or shuai jiao coaches over this guy any day of the week, and also how often in this guys life do you think he really practiced these throws against resistence.

from that clip alone, i have doubts several of those people have the ability to fight. but then who knows what will happen when correct pressure is applied? to anyone really.

they either go for it, or they take off all training aside.

Of course he can fight. See how he lulls a group of people into a false sense of security, and then suddenly pounces?

YouTube is filled with ridiculous clips like this one. I feel bad for the teachers in them but I feel even worse for the people on this forum who defend sh1t like this.

The only clip I can think of that is worse is the one where the tai chi guy is manipulating him from across the room/stage.

Tentigers, you seem like someone who would defend this or say that "there is value to this kind of training". Prove me right.

I use that move every Thursday night when I'm mugging the old people leaving the Casinos. The sh** works as long as they're not defending it by using the sacred hover chair technique.

I'll defend it.

It doesn't show fighting ability, but was that even the purpose of the video.

I think it's a good demo, because the dude is going full tilt and putting people on their ass. Most demos’ only show half the technique, without the follow through.

You don't teach by beating the **** out of your students, so you shouldn't expect every video to be a fight.

But neither should you be impressed by compliant ukes.

Thanks for refuting your own defense. The video doesn not even shoe being rooted since being rooted is not real unless against a resisting opponent.

MysteriousPower,

are you referring to the clip in the OP or the clips of Chen Bing?

In my opinion, Chen Bing's opponent showed a considerably higher level of resistance than the opponents in the OP clip. I am unsure whether or not he was actually trying to throw Chen Bing or whether he was just resisting being thrown, but I wouldn't say he was just standing there.

I was referring to the original crappy clip that I posted. Are these two clips of Chen Bing of the same crappy people falling over kind? I would watch them but I am in a public place and do not want to be embarrassed when people walk by and say, "Hey, that looks like kung fu. Do you do that?"

Then I say, "That is not kung fu. That is someone taking a big crap fu and I only do that in my bathroom."

lol... word... i just liked that push... spent a whole 3 minutes on it... just for kicks... i doubt doo wai has ever been able to do that, as an ancient or in his prime... i havent seen anything in his new or old vids that would suggest otherwise... as im sure you would agree...:D;)

his athleticism is certainly impressive, and his demo aesthetic is much more highly developed than "I''m going to leap in on you and shove you backwards", but again, it's the same convention of attacker delivers one strike and then just stands there;

however, some of those techniques would be intrinsically viable against resisting opponents

I have seen people got beaten up badly in tournament and still gave excellent demo in the same tournament. I prefer to judge people by their tournament record instead.
