This is what one of my instructors refers to as "empty body skills". A very important part of training.

As a prime example, Prince Naseem Hamed had superior empty body skills...

2:20 to 2:40 is particularly impressive... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfUFYtXNN0A

Then there's Emmanuel Augustus...

And of course, Roy Jones Jr. at the top of his game...

Tai Chi and internal boxing at it's best.... ;)

Will this kind of dodging work if kick and throw are allowed? When you lean your body back, your low body is all exposed to your opponent's kick and throw such as groin kick, foot sweep, inner/outer hook, front cut, single/double legs, ...

You use the appropriate defense against the appropriate attack....

yeah you cant do that in mma against a decent shooter... a boxer can push thier hips forward as a defence... in mma, its suicide unless youre in the clinch avoiding knees... and even then, alot of times it gets you tossed...

How about using a punch to set up a single/double legs? How do you know that leaning back is proper when you see a punch coming? Dodging is still in defense mode. It's better to put your opponent in defense mode such as leaning your upper body back while kick your foot at your opponent's nuts.

This drives home the point that boxing is a very stylized sport.

Agree! The moment that kicking is involved in the sport, both boxer and Judoka will change their combat stance and that's for sure.

Evasion is one of the most crucial elements in MA:
Anyone that has seen Anderson silva fight can see that.
He did what Ali does in the Gif and he does it in MMA with kicks ANd Punches AND clinchs AND takedowns.

The thing that makes evasion work so well is that they commit NONE of our weapons and leave the opponent off balance and vulnerbale.
The reason they tend to be hard to apply by most is that most tend to exagerrate the moves needed.
In evasions, less is better, so moving "just enough" is far better than "more then enough".

I have a friend that was a Jiu jitsu instructor. He never seen TCMA until he came to our school. My teacher showed him up, and he decided to stay. He found a very effective conter to the shoot in his style, Bagua... Walk the circle... By walking the circle, his body disapears from the range of the shoot, just as the boxers punches miss his target.
