Darn - tried to delete that like I've mentally deleted the last 4 games. As one of my coworkers said, the series was consistent with how they were playing all year. They'd get your hopes up, then they'd go straight to the toilet.

Since last night, I've been thinking about replying to that post and was disappointed when I found you had deleted it. Fortunately, as an admin, I can retrieve such things. It's good being king.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hunter Pence herded his teammates into the center of a clubhouse that was ready to pop. As the Giants hollered and hugged, he kept asking: "Is everybody here? Is everybody here?"

They were, wildly shaking their bottles of bubbly. And with that, Pence shouted the command.

Uncork 'em!

Suddenly, the spray of success soaked this bunch of World Series winners from San Francisco. Pence was in the middle of it all, as always, and Pablo Sandoval wasn't far behind Wednesday night after the Giants beat Kansas City 3-2 in Game 7.

Pence and Panda, champions again.

A day earlier, after the Royals romped 10-0 to force a deciding game, Sandoval didn't seem concerned. As he bopped out of the locker room, he shouted to his pal Pence, "Love you, my ninja!"

Popular for their personalities, they endeared themselves to Giants fans with their production against the Royals.

Pence hit .444, scoring seven runs and driving in five. In the winner-take-all game, the all-out outfielder got two hits and scored a run.

Sandoval batted .429 in the Series, scoring six and driving in four. He went 3 for 3 in Game 7, doubled and scored twice.

The 2012 World Series MVP was cheered on by four fans near the San Francisco dugout wearing giant Panda heads — he's nicknamed Kung Fu Panda.

Whether Sandoval's boosters get to see him play at AT&T Park next year is uncertain. At 28, the two-time All-Star third baseman can become a free agent and cash in big.

"As far as what happens, I don't know," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's obvious I love this kid, too."

"I've had him since he came up, and hopefully something gets done. But these are things that take care of themselves in the winter," he said.

Sandoval completed a three-year contract that guaranteed him $17.15 million, and the Giants have a history of paying to keep their core together.

Pence was in the first season of a $90 million, five-year deal, and two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, limited to one postseason appearance after struggling with his effectiveness, has one season remaining in a $35 million, two-year contract.

Sandoval earned his third championship ring. In 2010, he lost his spot to Juan Uribe in the World Series and played just once in the five-game win over Texas. In 2012, he hit three home runs against Detroit in the opener.

"Well, his role in the first one, it diminished. We put Juan at third base," Bochy said. "But the last two, you know, great players, they have a way of rising to the occasion."

"He did that. You could see a difference in Pablo once his postseason started. His focus, his third base play was as good as I've seen from any third baseman. That's what I'm proud of about him, is how he made himself such a good defender," he said.

Sandoval wound up with the final ball, catching a foul popup by Salvador Perez with a runner on third base to end it. As he gathered underneath it, Sandoval said there was no time to consider what the grab would mean.

"You don't think," he said. "You just catch it."

Sad...so sick of Giants...but glad that 39 yr starter got his ring ; ) Royals put up a great fight. That was one helluva ride for a World Series. I was glued to it and I'm not a baseball fan. But when you leave your heart in San Francisco, it's hard not to be into baseball now.

Former SF Giants fan favorite hits world's first six-run home run (https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/news/former-sf-giants-star-pablo-sandoval-hits-first-six-run-home-run)
Former SF Giants star third baseman Pablo Sandoval made history in Dubai's Baseball United league with a six-run home run.

In this story:
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Pablo Sandoval has hit some legendary home runs in his career. He blasted three dingers in the SF Giants' Game 1 win over Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers in the 2012 World Series. However, no home run in baseball history has been worth as many runs as the one Sandoval hit in the second All-Star Game for Baseball United, the new baseball league based in India, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

The league kicked off with two All-Star games played in Dubai. Sure, there's only four teams in the entire league, but Sandoval was eminently qualified, as the No. 4 pick in the first round of the league's inaugural draft. Kung Fu Panda will play for the Abu Dhabi Falcons when Baseball United starts its first season next November.

Not only were these the first professional games played in the Middle East, they were the first professional games played with the golden "Money Ball." It's literally a golden ball. If a batter hits a home run with it, the runs count double. That's how Sandoval, hitting with Dillon Thomas and Andrelton Simmons on base, delivered the world's first six-run homer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk51IaC2kT4

In the words of Baseball United,'s announcer, "Lock it, cock it, rocket, restock it!" Will that home run call catch on in major league baseball? We're going to say no.

Sandoval finished the game with seven RBIs as the East All-Stars swept the two-game series. Why was he on the East team when Abu Dhabi is the westernmost city in the league? It's just another mystery of Baseball United.

There's a few other new rules for the new league. Some players will only hit, and get "designated runners" to run the bases for them, something Sandoval might utilize. If games are tied after nine innings, the winner will be determined by a Home Run Derby.

While this is the first gold Money Ball in baseball, we've seen these innovations in other sports, mainly ones airing as part of MTV's 'Rock N' Jock" series. In Rock N' Jock basketball, players could aim at a much higher ten-point basket, and later, an even higher 25-point basket.

Despite his historic effort in Rock N' Jock, Miller couldn't hang with the Harlem Globetrotters after his NBA career ended, getting released by the team for having "no appreciation for what it takes mentally and physically to be a Harlem Globetrotter."

Rock N' Jock baseball also had their own version of the Money Ball, in the form of allowing Salt n' Pepa, plus their DJ Spinderella, to run the bases together. That backfired when the trio tried to advance on a Jose Canseco error and Treach from Naughty By Nature tagged out all three for a triple play.

The gold Money Ball has already led to strategic innovations in Baseball United. The rules say that a Money Ball transfers to the next hitter after a walk, so pitcher Brian Schlitter intentionally walked Robinson Cano to avoid facing him with a Money Ball.

Baseball United has another year to work out the particulars of their new game, but Pablo Sandoval will forever be the first six-run home run hitter in baseball history. Who knows? Maybe the Panda will even hit the first Money Ball grand slam for eight runs a true baseball immortality. At least in Dubai.
