It's so funny that Mantis has Zhai Yao Yi Lu, Zhai Yao Er Lu, ... The Zhai Yao form suppose to be the last form to "summary" the whole system. There should be no more forms after that. If we have Yi Lu, Er Lu, San Lu, ... then when will the form creation be able to stop?.

There are how many, six? (7 for some lineages?)
My understanding of the Zhai Yao forms is that they were all the fighting techniques that worked and were being used, but weren't in a form yet.

I guess you could say that all of the Zhai Yao should be put together, and that each one is a separate road for the form, but for teaching and simplicity, it is separated into 6 (or 7) sections.
I don't think there will be any more additions to the Zhai Yao family, but who knows. In a 100yrs, there could be 10! (I hope not however).

Then again, I still feel I'm a newb, so I'm just stating my feeling. I like to leave the history to the ones who have studied it, like Kevin and Richard.

I am no expert, but though the term zhai yao (essentials/summary) implies the end all/be all of the systems, I don't think they really fill the bill. They have great material in them, but nothing extraordinary.

The zhai yao of qixing, babu and taiji meihua are quite similar. Though the taiji meihua versions are my favorites. Er Lu of taiji meihua (Ma) is my favorite of the six (seven) sets. I just like how it flows. And the penglai version of Er Lu is especially beautiful to watch:

I think the main purpose for the Zhai Yao form training is you no longer think that you are a mantis but a human being again. You have tried to develop your mantis flavor all those years. Now it's time for you to find yourself back.
