Yes, why does WCK in a sparring situation look like kickboxing? And typically poor kickboxing at that!!

If we go by the evidence of almost all of the video you see posted, we should just give up on WCK and all learn to kickbox!!!

Notice that on all of these videos, when the fighters close to the range where WCK skills would really come into play, they typically go to a clench or takedown. Some of the JKD concepts guys have stopped training in trapping for this very reason. And trapping is the primary remnant of WCK that JKD retains.

I give the WC guys who tried their best props. Hopefully other WCK schools will compete and post videos for us to critique.

Watch this clip of a great fighter with someone who is a boxer:

There are so many things wrong with his hands according to a boxer. Yet he kicks butt. Don't get hung up on petty things in a fight, demo, or whatever. What counts is; can you pull something off under pressure?

So i wonder besides kicks and punches do WC guys control their opponent, intercept and redirect strikes and kicks that come at them. Are is that just something you practice in yo kwoons?

When does one take the leap over the mote and use more than just the offensive skills of WC?

My Sihing once said WC is like a crane as if flies or sticks and moves

But also like a snake as it sticks too, controls and coils around as it strikes simultanously...

Mostly we see predominantly crane style WC with little emphasis on the Snake aspects!

As I've said elsewhere, the reason that the WC guys always look like poor kickboxers is because they go in for full contact competition / training too early in their training. If a WC reaction is truly embedded it comes out under pressure (whether or not it has the desired effect) if it isn't students resort to wild swings and reactions that are already ingrained. Introduce pads to novices and their form goes to pieces because they forget technique and try to hit hard. It takes time and practice to develop power using WC technique but when it becomes ingrained the power levels far exceed the wild swings of the poor kickboxers. Unfortunately most students don't dedicate enough time to developing the muscle memory and habitual technique before putting on the protective equipment. Innevitably what comes out doesn't have any basis in WC.

The reason WC looks like KB is because WC when done in a FC environment will NOT look like WC done in a static, controlled environment.
The only way WC will "look" like WC in FC is when it is trained and practiced and sparred AS WC in FC in training.
Not chi sao.
Not compliant drills.
WC guys look like poor KB because they don't spar hard enough so when they do, they look like anyone else that doesn't have enough FC experience ie: poor kick boxers.

WC has far better lessons within than outward aesthetics.

Thats so weird cause thats not the case in boxing or mma gyms.

Completely logical and best post in a long time.

Heck, even controlled drills in boxing don't look like it does compared to when it is performed full contact in the ring against a resisting opponent trying to take the opponent's head off.
