My teacher used to take the blade of a Pu Dao and fit it to a small aluminum staff.

In White Crane I believe they call it a Ja Ma Dao.

Buy a cheap camping machete. Remove the plastic or wooden handle. Take a long shovel handle (purchase at a hardware store) cut a little off the end. Then use a saw or power saw. Cut a longitundal or length wise cut about 4 inches long.

Sleeve the machete in. Drill some holes and bolt.

It works the same as a bad ass Puo Dao or you can use it for kids. I recommend that you remove the edge before you give it to junior.

Kwan Dao - Wushu Steel (http://www.martialartsmart.com/45-81wu.html)

This product is made of light steel now comes in two sizes.
45-81WU: Overall length is 83"; the broad blade is 22"; weight is 4 lbs.
45-81WUT: Overall length is 73"; the broad blade is 21"; weight is 3.5 lbs.

I'm not sure how long we will carry these. There's now this huge discussion about how long a kwan dao should be. Apparently our original stock was 75" and it slowly crept up to 83" (which is about right for me personally).

6 - 12 inches over the head is good for me.
I guess it's a preference thing, although there is likely an optimum height/weight ratio there.

If you're going to work a Kwan Dao, it might as well be a heavy one. I like the guard to be at my shoulder height. As for the blade length, I'm flexible on that, as long as it's sturdy enough to punch through a car door. Of course, this is just my personal preference, but keep in mind my original BSL master is Wing Lam, and he was really into heavy weapons with thick blades.

That being said, our wushu Kwan Dao is clearly our bestseller. My guess is that it's about price. Honestly, I'm not sure how many people are practicing Kwan Dao anymore. I salute all of those who do because, honestly, again, I'm no longer practicing it regularly - haven't picked one up in about a year myself. Generally speaking, our least expensive model of any weapon is our bestseller.

guan dao was used by guan yun chang

it is longer and heavy.

a more general one would be pu dao

or horse slaying dao.

you may learn to use a pu dao.

but only a few may wield a guan dao.

nowadays, the wushu ones are usually light and soft

There is upcoming movie called The Lost Bladesman, to be released in May. The story is about General Kwan. To me, the most important factor to be considered in picking a movie to watch is usually the story. This new movie is very different from the superficial and symbolic presentation of the characters in previous movies about the General. So I have already scheduled to watch it.
